Not the first time he's cited a report that never existed.
2003-02-23 11:41:04 PM
'Brief' abstract:

"The International Atomic Energy Agency says that a report cited by President Bush as evidence that Iraq in 1998 was "six months away" from developing a nuclear weapon does not exist.
'There's never been a report like that issued from this agency,' Mark Gwozdecky, the IAEA's chief spokesman, said yesterday..."

"The White House says Mr. Bush was referring to an earlier IAEA report.
'He's referring to 1991 there,' said Deputy Press Secretary Scott McClellan. 'In '91, there was a report saying that after the war they found out they were about six months away.'
Mr. Gwozdecky said no such report was ever issued by the IAEA in 1991."

"Mr. Bush and Mr. Blair on Sept. 7 cited an agency 'report' declaring that satellite photography revealed the Iraqis had undertaken new construction at several nuclear-related sites. This week, the IAEA said no such report existed.
The IAEA also took issue with a Sept. 9 report by the International Institute for Strategic Studies - cited by the Bush administration - that concludes Saddam 'could build a nuclear bomb within months if he were able to obtain fissile material.'
'There is no evidence in our view that can be substantiated on Iraq's nuclear-weapons program. If anybody tells you they know the nuclear situation in Iraq right now, in the absence of four years of inspections, I would say that they're misleading you because there isn't solid evidence out there,' Mr. Gwozdecky said."

Headline is a bit misleading. The report exists. It forecasts a 3.3 percent annual growth between the last quarter of 2002 and the last quarter of 2003. Since the report came out after Bush announced his tax cut plan, he's making he assumption that the report factored in his plan to come to that conclusion. It's definitely a stretch, but technically not a lie. Farking politicians.

I submitted this article, but when I submitted it I put a tag on it. But I guess calling our dumbass president a dumbass is not politically correct, hence the admin's decision to the change the tag to an [image from too old to be available] tag. I guess it is kind of amusing, at that.
2003-02-24 12:28:04 AM
My post above originally said that I submitted this article with a [image from too old to be available] tag. Apparently, I was too much of a dumbass to type the HTML properly, though.
2003-02-24 01:00:57 AM
May I be the first to say Bush sux?
2003-02-24 01:01:10 AM
No kidding, this totally deserves the dumbass tag...
2003-02-24 06:59:37 AM
We already had a tax cut but the economy is in the tank. Why didn't it work? Oh, I get it, the tax cut wasn't BIG enough.
2003-02-24 07:01:50 AM
Who cares? This is nothing. Oooh my gawd, he cited a report with gross exaggerations. No president has ever done that!

What about the farm bill where he wastes billions of subsidies, or the steel tarriffs, or the tax cuts that keep on rolling out despite the fact that we are having the worst deficit in history? Even Greenspan said that these tax cuts will not help unless we get a massive surge of immigrants, something that will not happen.

But of course this will be used as a pretext to bash Bush and his stupidity of exaggerating a single report, but it really all boils down to hatred of the election that brought Bush to power and hatred of his foreign policy, and nobody, not even the liberals, care about the debt that will crush our nation.
2003-02-24 07:03:03 AM
I am suprised to see that there are still people that believe him about anything.

Check out "bush lies".
2003-02-24 07:03:32 AM
I care about the debt

2003-02-24 07:08:03 AM
Just watch the hate pour in. Comparisons to nazis and/or Hitler might be made, every historical incidence in which Bush's family has done something wrong will be dug up and shaken in front of us in a big a parade. His granpa had ties to nazis, his wife killed someone in a car accident, his daughters try to buy alcohol with fake IDs, he stole the election, he's a big stupid christian fundy. Every possible irrelevant point that people can make to make him look evil will be made, all the while this man deserves our hate yet gets it for all the wrong reasons.

Maui Haui, a lying politician? Say it ain't so! Still got a copy of the "Clinton bodycount" laying around too? I just love those little lists.
2003-02-24 07:08:36 AM
Once again the American people are lied to by their own leader!

Once again I must state: DAMN GLAD I'M NOT AMERICAN

Im not a fan.
2003-02-24 07:10:18 AM
A politician acting in an underhand manner?!

Ye gods!
2003-02-24 07:10:58 AM
Reality has never been important to this administration. Just say your point of view load and often until people believe it must me true. Then are running our country with the Rush doctrine.
2003-02-24 07:11:05 AM
KnightShyfte, nobody cares what country you are from if you aren't an American.
2003-02-24 07:11:06 AM
Actually bbcrackmonkey, he didn't steal the election, he rigged it.

Read Stupid White Men and all shall become clear.
2003-02-24 07:11:37 AM
Oh, incidentally, would anyone mind if I started?

Bush is a nazi. He is a cowboy. The war is about...

Fankervermush. G'night.
2003-02-24 07:12:29 AM
Unless you are a Brit, like Goatman, in which case you will be obnoxious, clever, and insulting enough to be heard and respected.

My hats off to you, Goatman, and all your glorious trolling to come!
2003-02-24 07:13:35 AM
Then in what futuristic Utopia do _you_ live?
2003-02-24 07:14:04 AM
Yeah, what Bush did ranks right up there with "I did not have sex with that woman" and "I did not sell those pardons".
2003-02-24 07:14:21 AM
KnightShyfte, the absolutely most stupid white man mentioned in that novel is its author.

FYI if you are totally swayed after reading a book written by a political pundit then you are a stupid white man too.
2003-02-24 07:16:36 AM
KnightShyfte, the liberals own the media and use it to relentlessly pursue their assault on American conservatism. Read Ann Coulter's "Slander" and it will all come to you.

/different sides of the same coin
2003-02-24 07:17:06 AM
Has it been said that he's also stupid?
I just thought of that myself.
2003-02-24 07:17:34 AM
... yeah, and all the beer drinking Germans and surrendering Frenchs kann svck our ass, because we save them in WW2.
They would all be talking German now, if we werent there ..

errr.. wait .. do Germans talk german??
2003-02-24 07:17:57 AM
The liberals own the media?

that's funny, I guess you haven't heard of newsmax and Fox News?
2003-02-24 07:18:19 AM
I would soooo like to see Bush and Blair get it on, covered in oil, armed only with wooden daggers.

Does that make me weird?
2003-02-24 07:18:37 AM
Dastardly Dan, it goes without saying. Its not necassarily a bad thing, as sometimes you need a simple mind in order to make decisions. A complex, sophisticated and intelligent guy like Gore might still be 'engaging in dialogue' with the Taliban.
2003-02-24 07:19:13 AM

I live in Canada. We're bigger and we're on top. If this were prison you'd be our biatch.
2003-02-24 07:19:18 AM
Why'd they need daggers to "get it on"?
2003-02-24 07:19:23 AM
not weird Goatman, just starved for entertainment
2003-02-24 07:19:27 AM

How about "I will not engage in nation building"

And how come people assume if you are anti Bush you are pro Clinton?
2003-02-24 07:19:57 AM
Flood of immigrants. To the U.S.? *laughs*

*laughs some more*

*Really laughing*

*stops laughing for a second*

Not likely with that president in power. Americans are great people, don't get me wrong, but what the rest of the world sees is not Americans, but the dumbass in power himself.

Flood of immigrants!? *snicker*

*laughs some more*

On a side note, Bush isn't the only president that has tried something like this. There was Clinton, and Bush Sr., and Reagan, and Carter, and...
2003-02-24 07:20:55 AM

It cracks me up when blind right-wing yanks totally forget the fact that Bush let Bin Laden get away
2003-02-24 07:21:17 AM
KnightShyfte, in case you were too much a stupid white guy to pick it up, I was being totally sarcastic when I said the media is owned by liberals and cited a novel by Ann Coulter as proof, in order to demonstrate your own gullibility in believing such things, but then again I suppose it was lost on you due to your 'stupid white manliness'.

Goatman, no, give then pistols with wooden bullets. Why? I dunno, that's just funny. I suppose they might come in handy in case there are vampires nearby.
2003-02-24 07:21:54 AM
And Jean Chretien, and Brian Mulroney (Kim Campbell screwed up in another big way, right around election time), and John Turner (who Kim Campbell probably took election lessons from), and Pierre Trudeau, and Joe Clark, and...
2003-02-24 07:22:00 AM
I'm actually not American, but
do you actually believe that in Canada,
or any country that even has a government,
people don't get lied to every day by
their leaders?
2003-02-24 07:22:23 AM
One of the things I love about Fark is this story is already being pretty well entirely ignored, in favour of a good, old-fashioned "You're ugly", "No, YOU'RE ugly" flamewar.

Hahaha. I'm just going to get my leapordskin trunks on, and then I'll join in...
2003-02-24 07:23:04 AM
KnightShyfte, I think the real issue is why YOU let Bin Laden get away. Where were you during all of this? I bet you never even tried to apprehend him, did you? Is it ok if I personally blame you?
2003-02-24 07:23:05 AM
If this were the worst offense Bush ever committed, I couldn't care less.

Unfortunately, it isn't.
2003-02-24 07:23:40 AM
STFU You're ugly! :)
2003-02-24 07:24:30 AM
Dastardly_Dan ... but yo mamma thinks I'm hot...
2003-02-24 07:26:01 AM
But she can't pe too picky, after all
she's really old and kinda ugly herself.
2003-02-24 07:27:24 AM
Yes, but the government of Canada (and most countries around the world) is smart enough to lie without evidence
2003-02-24 07:28:32 AM
I prefer them more dusty, I must say.
2003-02-24 07:28:34 AM
And isn't that actually worse, if you don't notice?
2003-02-24 07:29:39 AM
Well she's not that old!
2003-02-24 07:29:47 AM
Bbcrackmonkey--7:16:36--That was so damn funny that I snorted milk from my nose! Liberal owned media! That's priceless! That darned hippy Murdock and Screaming Yippie Turner and the rest of that bunch are all going down to the river later for their cell meeting to smoke some weed and come up with new ways to insert the Counter Culture into our everyday lives....see you there.

Seriously brother, if you can swallow the "Liberal Media" line, I've got some fantastic beach-front property in Kansas you might be interested in...

I might also point out, that you began the thread with the imagined comparisons. So far, I think we're all just amused that GW's turning on a version of the Big Lie so early in the budget process. None too surprised, so I can't really be disappointed. That's not hate, that's not bile. I just find GW to be a depressingly banal and predictable, and sometimes he punctuates his Presidency with moments of truly brilliant idiocy. Like this one.
