then you must be a "mechanic"....as I was a Tech....big difference between Truck and Car. The Ute is built on a unit-body design from the Holden Commodore CAR, with the back end cut-out/designed as a low-duty bed (read loading).

Most consider a "truck" to be a vehicle with a separate frame and body mounted to the frame. The Ute is NOT this, so it must be a Car....just like every other SUV, SUC, SAV, etc ad nauseum. A Ford F Series is a "Truck", and Explorer not so much.

Not every SUV is built on a car chassis. My Durango is built on a Dakota chassis. The newer Durangos are unibody.

Cars have been built around a body on frame platform. Under your definition they would be trucks not cars.

Would an older Explorer built on a Ranger platform be a truck or an SUV?

Well I consider myself an auto techinican but just try explaining that to the great unwashed masses. They will call us mechanics, crooks,whatever) The same ones who call their over-sized rides "SUV's"

I've traveled to Australia for a few work trips of a month plus. First time there I brought my wife with and we saw the ute's and decided we wanted to import one back home. Than Pontiac was going to do the importing and have it is a dealer model, all the way to the point the test mules were seen stateside doing their thing.

Now we have to look at trying to import one again and this will make service more of a pain. It would certainly stick out over here... All that being said, the Weenerser shouldn't assume people know out of country slang - no matter what your country is. I did my share of explaining slang I inadvertently used when I was in Australia.

This has something to do with politicians right? They go on hoondoggle's all the time. Seems Australia is quite progressive making that illegal.

I realize you're just trying to make anyone who's a clueless insular American asshole feel better with that.
