The Mexican caricatures might be a bit much, but I like it.

Breaking guitars is NOT cool, United. Not cool.

OMG.

THANK YOU, UNITED AIRLINES.

Please break the rest of this guy's guitars next.

2009-07-07 12:52:48 PM
So he didn't get over it, I guess. It does suck to have this happen to you and not get compensated for it, but 9 months and three songs later...let it go man.

And that picture of him transporting three amigos. The guys in Question?

This.

I mean, really, how many guitars have to die before this man gets the idea that he shouldn't be making "music"?

I thought the song was well done and it made for a really funny video.

2009-07-07 12:58:31 PM
How is it the airline's responsibility? Did they have a contract with him saying they promised to repair or replace his guitar if broken? He needs to accept responsibility instead of being a whiny biatch.

2009-07-07 01:08:07 PM
Much more effective than if a talentless hack like myself had done it.

Hope this guys career at least gets a huge boost from this.

$10 says that $3500 guitar was in a $29.95 case.

He should have had it insured.

Other than that I thought the video was clever and funny.

Why the hell is everyone siding with the airline on this? They have a responsibility not to break shiat they transport.

Airlines break shiat and don't take responsibility.
Wearing a miniskirt should never get a girl raped.
You should be able to dance in the forest in Vietnam without tripping an old landmine.

There's right and wrong, and there is what just is. Don't let a ramp rat touch anything valuable.

Honestly, while I feel for the musician, I can't really take sides in this because THERE SIMPLY ISN'T ENOUGH INFORMATION TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED.

Did he have it insured? Why didn't he try and take it on the plane? Did they force him to check it? We know nothing except for the reader's digest version conveniently reduced to country song form.

2009-07-07 01:36:25 PM
Song was shiat, but the baggage handlers made me snortle for some reason. Especially when the guy holds it like a machine gun, just because that's probably exactly what I would do in that job.

Maybe next time he won't put a $3500 guitar under the plane without insurance. Or in a shiatty case.

I think maybe we should give the airline $3500 for breaking his guitar. Terrible, terrible stuff.

Also:

"Damage claim

Baggage is designed to protect the contents. Scratches, nicks, or dirt may appear despite care in handling. United does not assume liability for normal wear and tear to baggage, which includes: damage to or loss of protruding baggage parts such as straps, pockets, pull handles, hanger hooks, wheels and feet, or other items attached to the baggage as well as damage to over sized/over packed bags.

Damages should be reported to and resolved by the individual United Baggage Services Office at the airport location where the damage was discovered. If this is not possible, please direct your report and claim to our airport staff at the location nearest you within 24 hours. We will need a copy of your ticket and claim check and will make a visual inspection of the damage.

Limits of liability
United is not liable for damage to fragile items, spoilage of perishables, loss/damage/delay of money, jewelry, cameras, electronic/video/photographic equipment, computer equipment, heirlooms, antiques, artwork, silverware, precious metals, negotiable papers/securities, commercial effects, valuable papers, or other irreplaceable items and/or any item where a liability release was signed by the passenger."

Why does it have to be country music? Why?

Must listen to good music to get that out of my ears.

While the style isn't my cup o tea, seriously its good stuff man. Consumers, in whatever way, have to fight back. This is his way and I give him wicked props.

And as a former Baggage Claim Supervisor I can say - dude, you are lucky they just didn't steal it.

The video suggests the neck broke. Maybe didn't loosen the strings before flying, which I've read is good practice to prevent this sort of thing in-flight. Liked the video though, even if it's not my style.

Exactly.

Of course, smart people who own $3500 guitars own a $350 guitar for those times when you've got a fly date to reach, because there are so many variables (sound system, techs, room, etc.) on a fly date that it won't matter how expensive your guitar was.

Sounds to me like an employee training and supervision issue.

Nobody should EXPECT their items to be abused.

That's kind of like blaming the victim of a mugging for walking through an area downtown that's got a higher crime rate.

In this situation, it's more akin to driving a new Mercedes Benz in a demo derby & expecting it to come out unscathed.

The evidence is that his guitar was damaged. If you check a guitar on an airplane it should be in a case that you'd be comfortable dropping out of a second floor window onto concrete.

have you seen some of the damage that has been done to baggage that is designed to handle a beating? They obviously were hammering that thing, since it was not the neck (as someone above said) but the base that was smashed. I haven't seen pictures of the damage or the case that it was in though, so I'm going to automatically side with the consumer in this case until someone can show me that he didn't take the proper precautions and that United isn't being all douchey about it.

Anyway if you read the guys site he isn't mad any more... he actually thanks United for giving him a creative outlet. FWIW I swore off both United and Delta. I will never fly them again due to past negligence, and general asshattery.

If he had decided to ship his guitar via FedEx he would have taken out insurance or, failing to do so, packed it securely so that it would not be damaged. If he chose to do neither of these things then it'd be his own fault if it got damaged.

Yes and if you pack your Armani suits in a suitcase on a business trip and they get somehow torn to shreds (don't ask how), you would just STFU and take it in the pooper.

True story...

I used to work at ISP (Islip MacArthur Airport) in the mid 80's.

I was hanging out with the baggage cart guys and they wheel in one of those wagons. On the wagon are some suitcases and a guitar case.

One of the workers goes..."Oh look a guitar" and opens up the case and starts playing it.

Just as that happened, his boss walked in and asked if that was "his" guitar.

The baggage guy was fired right on the spot.

Yeah!!!

If you have something like a $3500 guitar, you can buy the seat next to you and put the guitar there.

Did this for a client who traveled with a cello and another client who travelled with his accordian everywhere he went ( srsly, even on business.) because he made money playing eveywhere.

All you have to do is ask the airlines.

So the first song will be Country, the second Western, and the third Country & Western?

The guitar was useless before United got at it.
