(Some Guy)   Palin could become "Republican Al Gore, beloved and admired on her side of the aisle and reviled and ridiculed by her irate opponents." And, like Gore, she could get rich by *not* running for President   ( bosqueboys.com) divider line

If Palin writes any books half as good as the one's Gore has written, I'll eat my shoes. I'll broadcast it over my webcam. I will seriously eat my footwear.

Gore was rich before being not-president.

Except that Gore is competent, and Palin can't even govern herself, much less a state or a nation.

This sounds more like it. I detect a strong essence of gold-digger in her vicinity.

If it keeps her out of elected office I don't care if she hosts the Oscars and does color commentary at the World Series in between penning chapters of her new book "Rising global temperatures just means Jesus is hugging us extra-tight!"

Not so much. Ditto on Palin though. Both are attention whores.

I just don't understand conservatives' love of this woman. Her experience as mayor of a small town and as governor of a state with a population smaller than many major US cities has already shown her limited abilities and leaves me with no confidence that she can be anything more than eye candy on the national scene. Is there nobody who has the same general conservative beliefs with a brain and a bit of gravitas? An Alito or Roberts type who wants to run for President? Somebody who can keep Obama and the Democrats from getting too complacent?

There are those conservatives out there, unfortunately the GOP is now being controlled by morons that believe they're doing Jesus' will.

Not all former Republicans were hard up Jesus freaks. These days, the GOP panders to the lowest common denominator (ie redneck retards). So, hate the black man prez and cheer the hottie! Sadly, in a lot of cases, it doesn't get much more complex than that.

The only thing worse than Sarah Palin is Sarah Palin's powerpoint presentation.

2009-07-06 10:06:09 AM
I would never want Sarah Palin as President.

That being said, I think way too much was made about "Palin 2012". People seem to forget she is only 45. Hillary ran for President at 60. Palin could try to "reshape" her image, and run in 2020 and only be 56.

Of course, Palin might think Armageddon will have struck by then, so, she might think she has to get into the office ahead of that.

Partisans tend to view politics as a form of punishment. They feel that it would somehow "punish" the Left if she was ever elected office and take joy in that possible scenario.

FlashHarry: it's because they're never wrong about anything, ever. seriously. that's the only thing that can explain their continued support of this epic train-wreck of a woman.

I'll you why - nothing has changed. Essentially, this is what's happened:

Palin comes on the scene.
Conservatives say they love her for A, B, and C.
Liberals say she is a disaster because of X, Y, and Z.
Turns out X, Y, and Z are right. But nothing has actually *changed*. There hasn't been a big scandal or anything. So conservatives have no easy way to disassociate themselves from their initial proclomation of love. They were simply wrong. And until Palin gives them an out, there's really no way they can possible leave her.

No she can't. Her appeal to conservative men is basically because of her looks. When she loses those looks, why would they ever vote for her? Conservative, old men are sexist. She won't be able to win without her winking.

Except even that doesn't do it, given how the Republicans (rightly) dropped Harriet Miers like a hot potato once her chances of nomination went from slim to none.

It just doesn't make sense.

But they never actually embraced her. IIRC, from day one the GOP hated her. They didn't have to admit they were wrong.

outlier, maybe?

you're right - that one didn't make sense. especially considering the fact that, despite her meagre resume, harriet meyers is a trillion times more qualified to be a SCOTUS justice than sarah palin is to be dogcatcher.

I think that was the point. Not that the Fark scripts have poor arithmetic. We're mostly here to give opinions about exaggerated headlines without reading the basic arguments of the source material.

Sarah Palin should come out against Global Ending. It doesn't matter that she's not exactly a scientist, she could make a movie and a .ppt, travel the world, and sell people stuff. Just imagine the Fark threads when the Pro-Global Enders come out of the woodwork.

First, remember the Republican Fundie base. Uneducated, socially conservative, gun-toting, Jesus freaks. Enter an attractive lady from a big state (population doesn't matter--it's the size of the state), who is a creationist, is pro-life, for abstinence-only sex-ed, pro-gun, and everything they perceive Hillary not to be.

Then add in that she's the complete opposite of what has been called for years the party of old white men. That's where the media comes in. FoxNews is the only news source the base uses and they certainly never pointed out her failings. Instead, they attacked any other news source any time they painted her in a bad light.

Those 2 factors polarized the base around her. If you point out that she nearly bankrupted Wasilla or her stupid answers during her Couric & Gibbs interviews, they will either completely ignore you, tell you you're taking her out of context, or just generally lash out at you.

Guilty. Sorry.

Yeah, that's what I see, too. Plus, the polls will show her as damaged goods, no matter how much she....'improves' her positions and such by 2012, she won't be able to change the overwelming view of her.

KaponoFor3: Palin isn't loved by economic conservatives, so there's that difference right off the top

I know many very conservative types who don't like her at all. I also know of moderate Republicans who can't stand her, either.

More and more I'm finding myself agreeing with the folks saying John McCain never really forgot what Rove did to him in South Carolina in 2000 and he got his revenge against the party leaders by picking Palin while simultaneously removing her as a viable political candidate for the future -- once she actually opened her mouth.

If this is true? John McCain: Greatest American Patriot of the last 50 years.

I have to admit, for me, it's been a helluva week.

So many things to be happy about... like,

1. Sarah Palin stepping down under auspicious reasoning.
2. MJ dying.
3. Billy Mays dying.
4. Federer surpassing Sampras' record with his Wimbledon win over Roddick yesterday. (Great f'ng match to boot!)

God only knows what the rest of today will bring to add to my list :D

I said this in another thread: You know when you're playing poker, the pre-flop checks around to the small blind, who raises big, like 1/3 of his stack, thinking he can buy the pot, but then gets called by two other players, and post-flop you can see the indecision on his face, realizing he's already over-invested, but thinking that the two small pair that he just made justify trying to buy the pot, so he pushes all in, then gets completely whored out on the turn by his opponent's trip Kings? That's sort of how I view the Republican party and Sarah Palin. They don't understand the idea of cutting their losses, and figure that if they're in for a penny, they're in for a pound. Now that they've made Sarah their star, they have to commit to a scorched earth campaign in her favor.
