The Only Good Moran: colon_pow: palin is an existential threat to the democrats. they know this. if she was a buffoon like they claim, she would have faded away after the election.

democrats know that they need to destroy her, at all costs. It's a matter of political life and death.

carry on farktards. do your best.

Anything to defend your Queen eh?

Palin destroys herself. Resigning as Governor with 18 months left on her term is whacky. It's news.

deadapostle: St_Francis_P: 2xhelix: If this is true, I'm gonna need a hell of a lot of popcorn.

Yeah, it's going to be a circus.

With a source like The Brad Blog, how could it be false?

I was going to say the same thing. This is the chucklehead who was joined at the hip with Bev Harris of black box voting warning us of how elections were being stolen by republicans. So tell me again how well that conspiracy worked the last few elections? Does the word SIXTY ring a bell?

Can't believe a word this guy says...

Conservative eminence, Mark Levin, predicts a presidential run.

It's obvious. Quitting when things get tough is exactly what people want in a president.

technicolor-misfit

Is she dumb for my office or your office? Maybe not SUPER-dumb... (especially for mine, I work in TV... we've got Sarah Palins crawling out of the woodwork ) but we're talking about the OVAL OFFICE.

That's what kills me about people who keep saying "she's not THAT dumb..." Yeah, maybe not compared to my cousin.

At least she's smarter than you. You libs laugh now, but you won't be laughing much when Obama gets impeached (like he should).

CanisNoir: Shatner's Bassoon: I can't see how. If she bailed on a small state when the press coverage got a little rough, how the fark would she stand up on the world stage where the scrutiny is infinitely more intense?

Part of the problem you're having is that your premise is completely wrong. She didn't quit because press coverage got too difficult, she quit because every time she went out of State, blew her nose or sneezed, someone was filing Ethics complaints against her. Not only was it becoming financially burdensome, but it was adversely effecting her staff and hindering her administrations attempts at pursuing their policy aims. Turning it over to the similar minded but less controversial Lt. Governor she is ensuring that the policy goals she got elected to pursue are actually being pursued. It's a very defensible position.

I agree it was odd and a shock, but in that light, it's also perfectly understandable. If Hillary can run a successful and potential presidential campaign with all the skeletons in her closet, do you really think leaving the Governorship 2 years early is a campaign killer?

Canis, please don't do this. I know you're not a troll. I know you're a smart guy. Do you really buy the ethics complaint story?

Here's the problem: you only have a case if every ethics complaint was frivolous. And some of them were. But the clothes the RNC bought her, Troopergate, the banning of books... these are very real issues. These are issues where, even if it's not clear exactly what happened, it's pretty obvious she did something wrong. I agree that stepping down was the right thing for the state of Alaska, just like how I think Mark Sanford should step down (but he's a loon, so who knows what he'll do). I can't believe it's the right thing for her career, though.

Leaving aside the issue of inexperience, she just painted the biggest target possible on her back for the 2012 primaries. Governor Cut'n'run, Moose in Headlights, Quitting is Not an American Value. Can you see the slogans now? The core of a good campaign is image control. Palin's biggest failure is her utter inability to control her image, compounded by her bizarre and ham-handed attempts to do so. She holds the media in contempt-- one of the reasons it's so hostile to her-- and she doesn't understand why they don't do what she says, which betrays not only a fundamental naivete about the political process but a delusional, self-aggrandizing mindset.

Also, you have to think in terms of a general election. Sarah Palin ignites the base to 1000 degrees, but nobody else likes her. She's operating under the fallacious belief that because her supporters would die for her, they'll get counted twice or three times at the voting booth or something. A politician who inspires undying devotion in 10% of the voting population will be trounced by a politician who is mildly approved of by 51%, especially if, as Palin does, the first politician seems to go out of her way to alienate everyone who's not in the base.

What was it that made you actually pay attention to a governor of Alaska that was resigning?

I'm not 100% sure why she still garners attention, but it may be for the same reason that people still pay attention to Britney Spears.

Who?

Okay, I kid. I know who Spears is just as I know who Michael Jackson is, but I don't give a shiat about them. IMO, Farrah Fawcett got ripped off.

I found out about Jackson's literally as I was leaving to go to a bar (I asked my friend why they hell was there a picture of MJ on his computer). We drank at the bar for at least 2 hours and one of the TVs there NEVER showed us anything except Jackson.

I understand you're not excusing it, but just pointing out the reality - someone must care deeply about these people - can Congress pass a law to just eliminate them from society? (I know, that would probably take an amendment, but IMO it would be worth it).

Chelsea Clinton Is Carrot Top's Lost Twin: lstywnch: Chelsea Clinton Is Carrot Top's Lost Twin: they are pretty big.

I couldn't find a good pic of the Wasilla sports complex to compare.

Nor could I. Although I am finding the name "Spenard Builders Supply" popping up a lot. This whole building issue is getting very interesting very quickly.

Although I am surprised Palin would resign over any type of scandal. These days it seems like nothing seems to phase politicians and have to be removed kicking and screaming. Ted "the tubes" Stevens is a perfect example.

The only way to salvage her political career is to get out ahead of the scandal. Resign before it can come out under your own power, let it settle for a couple years, hope that they fail to find any evidence, then run again in 2012 if the tide looks right.

The Why Not Guy: I'll be the first to agree that attacking her children - or any politician's children - is a cheap attack.

absolutely - not in the realm of us internet whackos, as...that's pretty much a million-man-thunderdome, but it should be outta bounds to crack wise at her kids from anybody even thinking of wanting credibility beyond pixels on your screen - and she'd be 100% in the right to call foul on that.

thing is, she calls foul on everything. she expects deference, yet gives nothing but attacks...and makes no bones about it. i just get all quizzical-dogish at seeing it go unrecognized.

D@mn straight, she's GWB 2.0. We didn't think it was possible for him to win in 2000, we didn't think it was possible for him to win in 2004 - but the SOB did it. wejash: Keep in mind that the U.S. Attorney has discretion to pursue cases in different ways.

For example, they chose not to pursue anything against Spitzer when he resigned.

The Spitzer situation would have been a tough federal case to make and the U.S. Attorney has not been on a roll indicting Alaskan politicians (making Ted Stevens into a victim takes some extra special level stupid).

So, purely speculating my butt off, this could have been a rush deal done to end further digging. The feds can drop pursuing a case which they might lose -- and would no doubt be accused of pursuing purely to "get" an Obama opponent. And she gets to keep her ambitions alive theoretically. Just have to rebuild without being able to prove what a great executive she really is. Er, yeah, that was the claim, right?

Sounds entirely plausible. Until further details are revealed, this makes the most sense.

Komplex: D@mn straight, she's GWB 2.0

But GWB had a term and a half under his belt as Governor of Texas when he ran in 2000. He also had the Bush dynasty behind him.

He still lost the general election by 500K votes and only won the state controlled by his brother by a few hundred.

Not a viable showing if - 1. you aren't a Bush and 2. The contested state is not run by your brother.

FishingWithFredo: detfrost1: Asking someone what farking magazines they read, and they can't even farking read one is a hit job!?

Palin had figured out that Couric wasn't there to do an impartial interview, and was there to play "Gotcha!" on behalf of the political party she works for.

Palin wasn't experienced enough, however, to just get up and walk out of the interview; instead she shut down, and it came off looking bad.

There was also selective editing of the interview to make her look more extreme and less informed.

Asking someone what the Bush Doctrine is, in her opinion, and she can't even bullshiat her way through that is a hit job!?

What the fark is the Bush Doctrine? Charles Krauthammer said it changed four times, and Charlie Gibson's reference wasn't the most up-to-date one. Krauthammer's only the one who invented the term and first discussed the Bush Doctrine, and is only about 1,052 times smarter than you or me.

Actually, two of the state's top health officials were told not to tell the legislature about the statistics in other states that have enacted parental consent laws. They were told just to make the governor's wishes known and leave it there. Beverly Wooley said she couldn't do that and was fired. Probably not, but reporter hubby just pointed out something else that's smelling a little odd. When Sean Parnell takes over as Governor, he is supposed to be replaced by Joe Schmidt, the director of Corrections. This was certified by the legislature a LOOOONG time ago. However, for some bizzarro reason Palin has named Lt. General Craig Campbell, head of the AK National Guard and commissioner of the department of military and veteran's affairs, as Parnell's replacement.

Probably just her way of making AK prisons look bad so we can pay for more private prisons. Pete Kott's gonna need a job, after all.

2009-07-04 02:25:56 PM
For all those people that say, oh she's gonna run in 2012. No, she isn't. In the "speech" she is clearly panicking. She is nearly crying at the podium. I don't give Sarah Palin much credit but I know that given enough prep she can deliver a good speech. That was near hysteria. That speech is not the foundation of a presidential run, that's the sound you hear when someone's going to be indicted for something serious that will stick hard.
Whether or not this Brad dude is right about the embezzlement, something scared the crap out of Palin.
A second point to add is she would have to win the republican primaries in order to run. And the repub primaries will either be a snooze or a bruising mudbath that makes the '08 demo primaries look like a tea party. With that wierd resignation hanging over her, people would be wondering whether or not she has the determination and dedication to be president. Unless the field is made of ineligible whackos, she would not survive it.

Oh, this. A favorite tactic of fundies and and/or the new 'conservatives'is to whip up support by claiming to be the target of some organized camapign against them. People are natural suckers for being part of an "us v them" situation. We may find that Palin was on film doing meth with a teenager, and FOX (along with their ilk) would find a way to turn it into a clear case of character assassination.

Yep. If you wish to seek another office, at least have the balls to step down from the one you currently hold. I understand that a politician's greatest fear is a "real job", and so they're loathe to risk their position of power and privilege to seek out a position of higher power and privilege, but that should be required, in my opinion.
