Just so this doesn't turn into a giant "What a dumbass" thread, when he writes "Its pretty telling that I haven't used LeBron James' name yet, and you knew exactly who I was talking about." he doesn't necessarily realize that the headline of his article is going to be Lebron Hype Is Premature. Usually the author of an article doesn't write the headline to his/her story.

2003-02-21 06:21:15 PM
he'll suck the dick when he first gets there. eventually he MIGHT mature into a quality player like kevin garnett did. but the odds will be against him.

personally i have very little respect for athletes who bypass or don't finish college because most of them won't go back and get a degree after they retire. the ones that do though are pretty hoop in my book.

Its pretty telling that I haven't used LeBron James' name yet, and you knew exactly who I was talking about.

guess again, einstein... even after you used Lebron James' name, there's gonna be a lot of people saying "who? and why should we care?"...

If it was the top Magic: The Gathering player you'd probably know. Go back to the basement and eat some more flamin' hot Cheetos and have a Mountain Dew to cool off. And, please, for the love of God, quit crying.

"Just imagine what will happen when he gets millions of dollars in his pocket; it's going to be The M.C. Hammer Story all over again."

True, so true; I remember how crushed I was by the quick crash-and-burn of Hammer's basketball career.

What a total dip.

Just look at the imgage of the damn author. He's got giant hands, or a freaking small head. Believe me.

Why in the world is some barely cherry-popped guy from Georgetown University more chatty with his overcompensating diatribe than a naked woman in a sports bar?

Oh, right...

That's one goofy looking picture. I'd like to see a photoshop thread of it, but I bet it'd suck.

Thank god someone finally wrote this article. I'm sick and farking tired of hearing that this guy is god. I play high school basketball, I also play high school football. Let me tell you, the competition that he is playing against is HORRIBLE compared to the bench jockeys in the NBA. I'm not saying that because I myself am a bad athlete, i'm playing division 2 football next year, just that it's so farking stupid to think that this guy is god because he's playing a bunch of 10 and 11th graders.

ESPN, several times. Good morning.

Aside from the FORMAT of the article, the content actually has flaws. The author's drawing on his own memories of high school basketball, and they don't apply. James plays at a private school that recruits the best players and competes against other schools that do the same, as far as I'm aware. It's a little more than Podunk vs. Hicktown in a three point shooting run'n'gun brickfest.

But despite himself he's probably right about one thing: James is overhyped, and may wake up to reality and find himself a boy among men when it comes time to lace em up in the NBA.

His biggest upside is his potential, yet his greatest selling point is his performance. Burn out is on the horizon unless he gets better advice.

Its pretty common in sports like soccer and even hockey for 18 year olds to do well in the big leagues. The problem with basketball and football is there are huge institutions saying you should get exploited and work for free for a few years beforehand.

Aardfarkette, the difference is that around the world soccer players have the opportunity to move up in leagues much earlier. It's not unheard of for a 16 year-old to be playing for a major club. In the US you're pretty much stuck against inferior competition until you're out of high school, at best.

Akron is the rubber capitol of the world damn it! That is why people care.

Do it for Akron basketball guy!
