Yeah, Oshkosh already makes vehicles for the military - the Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT) series. Pretty good trucks, too. Cargo, Bridge transporters, all kinds of stuff.

Why is this odd?

Oshkosh B'Gosh is the children's clothes maker.
Oshkosh Corporation makes the heavy duty trucks. They share nothing other than a name and home town.

Submitter is a douche. There are two companies... OshKosh B'Gosh and Oshkosh Corporation. The one here has been making heavy trucks and vehicles since 1916. I've driven several military vehicles built by them.

Side note: Oshkosh, Wisconsin was one of the main filming locations for Depp's new movie "Public Enemies". The closed down the downtown for awhile... I was there.

Tanks.

If the Governator buys one, will we be seeing them on the roads here too?

I can decide if Oshkosh b'gosh is more reminiscent of Klingon or Cthulhu.

...but the vehicles, which are made by a completely different company named after the same Wisconsin city, still are.

Now, if only they would buy vehicle test stands from my employer, then maybe *I'd* be going back to work, too.

(grumble)

Who'll use them for a year and then put them in storage for five of six years before they donate them to Goodwill.

I had a buddy that worked in a factory that made armed personnel carriers of various sorts for both Americans and Israelis. He said the American models had crap for armor while the ones for the Israeli military were over-engineered with defenses. I'm sure its the same cheap-ass deal the gov is making with these people.

austin_millbarge: A development that would have been helpful oh say maybe 8 YEARS AGO!

Apparently we had not counted on the pervasiveness of IEDs in both theaters of operation, and on the sheer proportions of casualties they would produce. You don't get the benefits of clairvoyance in war, merely hindsight.

At any rate, this thing WILL save lives. In fact, they already have. (new window)

No, not that Oshkosh.

Oshkosh Corporation: Large manufacturer of trucks for the military founded in 1917.
Oshkosh B'gosh: children's clothes now made in Mexico. Company originally founded in 1895.
Chief Oshkosh: Killed your ancestors, tore off their heads, shat down their necks.
