I've seen stuff like this before, but like good dunking in basketball, I never get tired of it.

2009-06-29 05:45:28 PM
That was pretty damn cool.

2009-06-29 05:59:47 PM
All of that was pretty damn impressive, but the kick @2:34 was amazing.

2009-06-29 07:24:15 PM
that was one of the most ridiculous videos i've seen in awhile. good find subby.

2009-06-29 07:30:16 PM
Remi is unbelievable. His non-football videos are hilarious in my opinion, but his football tricks are sweet

2009-06-29 07:31:05 PM
I see these videos.. and then in games I see so many strikes go absurdly wide/above the net. Yeah, I know... game is different and how many out-takes did he have?

I played outside midfield in college. My job was to run up and down the damn field all game long and drop balls into small holes like this. It's actually pretty to easy to do if you don't put velocity on the ball. That's the difference between shooting on goal and floating shots (like he was doing)... the extra speed makes it really hard to be accurate.

I was impressed with some of his shots -- but I lost all admiration when he'd do his: "Look how damn cool I am" walk in some random direction after each shot. What? You came out here to float shots and now you've got somewhere important you need to be? Definitely likes himself way too much.

I see these videos.. and then in games I see so many strikes go absurdly wide/above the net.

I was just talking about this - I play on a reasonably good men's team but in my match last night, we have guys launching the ball 40 feet high and in to the parking lot! (present company included).

The window of opportunity for a quality shot is so small and people try to overcome it with power.

2009-06-29 07:55:05 PM
And it only took 4,700 tries to get those shots!

2009-06-29 08:01:31 PM
I used to play a lot of soccer (up to college - when i got, um, distracted) - and at the time i was pretty good at it. i could juggle the ball indefinitely off any body part, hit any sort of target etc...

So i have no doubt that this video was not faked.
It really is not that hard for someone of his skill level to put the ball close to the target even over tens of yards (sorry, meters) distances... i used to goof around in the same way pretty successfully.
But based on that experience, the thing that wasn't clear to me is how many takes it took for each shot.... Clearly not all of them were first takes. no way.
Not that it is any less impressive. Just like in any other sport, one can do all sorts of cool tricks once one has a feel for the ball.

to wit (new window)
(the most impressive part, the golfers here will agree, is the last swing. he was using a wedge. try it sometime if you disagree!)

cheers

That's what's so infuriating about pro soccer players, subby. They're arguably the most atletically gifted people on the planet, and yet they act like babies on the field...

Still, that was a pretty cool vid.

/hockey players are better though
//just sayin'

waiting4godot: game is different and how many out-takes did he have?

Not many I'm sure. In a game you don't get to set the shots up as well.

I think Iron Man is the only one who's allowed to do that.

2009-06-29 08:13:18 PM
I have seen dogs and horses play with balls and yet they don't call it games let alone sports. Cute tricks kinda like spinning plates or swallowing a sword, but not a sport.

2009-06-29 08:14:37 PM
Yeah, try that field goal kick with 10 280lb lineman charging at you, cheese-monkey.

So if some schlub can pick off a beer can at 50 yards, how come we get all these 0-0 games ?

2009-06-29 08:19:14 PM
Wow. Don't care for soccer, but that was impressive.

Um.....these are fake and old.

I don't care what he can do with that soccer ball: There's something weird about guys who wear capri pants.

berniex: So if some schlub can pick off a beer can at 50 yards, how come we get all these 0-0 games ?

There's a schlub at the other end that can block a beer can-sized hole all day?

I am really getting a kick out of.....

2009-06-29 08:35:19 PM
dude is still a douche i think the golfer should have beaten him about the head in his a pac man video.

but he sure can kick a balli can give him that much credit

Nope. Soccer is still gay. Not impressed.

Y'know... it's kind of sad that these days when I see something cool like this, my first reaction is that's fake! Now i look really hard to see if it looks unnatural instead of just enjoying it!

I was hoping he would pop a few shots off the camera lens.

spiral8: They're arguably the most atletically gifted people on the planet,

Yeah, they're not. They're playing a game for which 99% of all humans can master the fundamental skill before they are potty trained.

If you like soccer, good on ya. But really, stay away from the remarkable skill comments. Yeah, the pros are good. That's why they are pros.

Colonel_Debugger: They're playing a game for which 99% of all humans can master the fundamental skill before they are potty trained.

Those fundamental skills being walking and running? That applies to a lot of sports.

You just went full retard. You should never go full retard.

A lot of GAMES. Sports require wheels and or motors. But not spelling so much.

Yeah, they're not. They're playing a game for which 99% of all humans can master the fundamental skill before they are potty trained.

You can't use your hands in soccer and I couldn't dribble a ball with speed until I was about 10...but I could easily carry a ball with speed at about age 3.

Ever had an airdale?

Sorry, at first I was bumfuzzled until he kicked the ball off the stairs into the dumpster. I don't believe it. I don't care how many of you farkers say it can happen. I played through high school. Stupidly turned down a scholarship offer. You can't convince me.

berniex: So if some schlub can pick off a beer can at 50 yards, how come we get all these 0-0 games ?

Go back and read Blink's post. Obviously no radar gun in the video, but if I had to guess, you'd have to hit the ball a helluva lot harder than Remi was to get it past the keeper from 50 yards (roughly midfield).

Here's a rough approximation from recent memory, though. Bear in mind that the first shot came from about 40 yards out. That's about as good a goal as I've ever seen.

Well said, and hilarious to watch after kicking a ball.

I much prefer his comedy videos, for example the Rocky one where he recreates Rocky's training sequence all over France, for example beating up pork chops in a French supermarket.

johnsmith99: That's all fake, like U.S. interest in soccer.

It's entirely real. You can grab any top level soccer player in Europe and they can make the same shots. Some would go for even harder shots.

Halli: There are still people who think this is real?

Apparently according to the man himself, he made two of the kicks and they CG'd the rest using what he'd already done.
