I'm sure we have plenty of options calculated and ready. At this point I pity those who live in NK and are trapped there, esentially.

We can't attack North Korea without sacrificing South Korea. The moment any aggressive action is taken toward the North, they'll obliterate Seoul.

ohhhhh THOSE missles...
Well played Obama.. Well played

from having served in Korea, I for one am rather worried that that crazy assed Kim is willing to let his people be annihilated because of his shiat talking. Sad really, there's a nation that could use a little regime change but alas, no monetary gain from it so the fine noble people of North Korea get bumpkus.

I think he lives in a bubble, surrounded by only people saying what he wants to hear. He might be crazy and misinformed enough to try something.

I think if he does, it will be over within in a week. I don't think we will fark around.

Exactly. I feel sorry for those people too. They are just caught in the middle.

But if the nut job tries something the US needs to have quick and decisive action.

I think that's what he is going for.

Thus, the thing to do is whack nuclear capable sites in NK first, then they attack SK, then they get beat on and take heavy losses via far superior US of A air power, then they get no help from an already irritated China, then they have a coup and unseat Nutbag. Tada!

Those launches are cool. Used to watch them in person from 1989-1992, when I was stationed there.

That is an awsome military base also. There are not many bases where you can go on a 50 mile bike ride and not be going in circles. It's a beautiful base.

It's where I met my wife also. Those are some fond memories.

Agreed. He's got his whale to slay, the life of his countrymen, his family, and himself be damned.

Just out of curiosity since I can't seem to find it elsewhere, how do those minutemen III missiles work anyhow? I saw they have multiple warheads.. does that mean they separate out and do something like a cluster-bomb or what? Just what kinda area would be fubarred if one of those went off?

Like.. are we talking Rhode Island, Texas, or Alaska?

"He said it carried three unarmed re-entry vehicles that hit their targets near the Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands, some 4,200 miles away."

When the USAF fires missiles 4200 miles, it's to make sure we can still hit the second bedroom window of a specific house and not wake the neighbors. When NK fires missiles half that distance, they hope it doesn't explode on the launch pad.

foo monkey:

Not so much, apparently. Sure, they have a lot of artillery tubes within range of much of the city, and a lot of rockets they can fire in that general direction, but the "Seoul Goes Boom" scenario assumes that the North Koreans will smoothly move all of their weapons out of their shelters in a very short period, that the South Koreans won't fire back, and that the USAF and South Korean air forces have forgotten how to drop cluster bombs over the few square miles that the Norks have their weapons parked in.

No to mention, of course, the high possibility of a series of well-placed airburst nukes all over the North Korean artillery zones if they fire off a nuke of any kind, in any direction.

"On clear mornings, missile launchings from Vandenberg can be seen as far away as Los Angeles, 140 miles to the southeast, but fog along the coast made Monday's launch difficult to see even in the immediate area, Geoffroy said."

I'm trying to convince my wife that doing a rotation on Kwaj would be great. All I have to do is say yes and I have an accompanied slot waiting on me. Unless that slot got cut too! I'm getting sick of all these DoD related lay-offs. I've already been told to start looking for a new job by my boss.

Just curious... is there a strategic or realistic way for the US & S. Korea to address all the munitions/weaponry aimed at S. Korea? I'm sure we know where lots of them are..... how fast and accurately would we be able to neutralize them? How many could we knock out of commission in a short period of time? How would we do it?
