I think Iran is starting to milk, and take advantage of the fact that we Westerners didn't want to seem involved, didn't want to detract legitimacy from the protestors, they are now thinking they can do stuff and we won't retaliate, because they're right.

I would prefer we had Thatcher than Brown though, she would go in personally and kick their arses. Together with zombie Reagan.

It's truly sad that most governments feel the need to demonize other governments in order to control their citizens.

We will never live in a world without enemies. Our governments will conveniently create them in order to deflect attention from domestic problems.

Solution to the Iran problem:

Issue an edict to the Iranian government that they have 72 hours to revise their human rights policy and foreign diplomacy policy to a point where it is accepted by the UN. If they do not comply, glass the place.

Problem solved either way.

Oh, dis is what the NastyDawg has been waiting fur. Stinkydinajad done farked up.

The Farked up thing is that I was finally able to confirm with a "reliable source" in the FEDs that neither the US nor UK had anything to do with this shiat. No clandestine ops needed, is what I was told. completely internal. Now this.

"Iran seizes embassy workers. This is not a repeat from 1979"

Shakedown 1979, cool kids never have the time
On a live wire right up off the street
You and I should meet
Junebug skipping like a stone
With the headlights pointed at the dawn
We were sure we'd never see an end to it all
And I don't even care to shake these zipper blues
And we don't know
Just where our bones will rest
To dust I guess

The problem I see with this is that you'll never get Russia on board. Those guys are either evil or they're 4chan trolls IRL. On his death bed Putin's going to declare he did it for the lulz.

That's one way to up the ante: arrest them, provoke the Brits into doing something that will foment the concept of Iran vs The West. It's a variation of putting the victim on trial.

My thoughts exactly.

Iran has made a tactical error in going after the British. That "stiff upper lip" stuff only goes so far. Once that threshold is passed they'll send in some SAS unit that no one has ever heard of before. They won't hesitate. They won't quit. They will not just look for a proportional response.

It's possible that Iran and Ahmadinnerjacket are simply looking for some hotbed issue to get the people more frightened about an outside enemy than him. The US has been that enemy for so long and it's not working now, so they're going with a proxy.

Unfortunately, I think the cat's out of the bag. She's already pregnant. The ship has sailed.

This was planned, and I knew they were gonna do it a few days ago. They are uber-pissed at BBC for actually reporting the news, and since they are incapable of blaming themselves for anything, they'll continue to make this all one big western plot. It's pretty pathetic. They aren't an unimportant nation, but they look so farking when they create these outrageous lies and excuses (the CIA killed Neda? FARK YOU). Now the world gets to see them for what they really are.

So...you solution to help the Iranian people is to...kill them all?

No, my solution requires that one is truly willing to kill them all. It also requires that the government being intimidated knows you are truly willing to do it. It might need to be done to one country, but after that, peace in the middle east would be attained after thousands of years. The global death rate of all people is 100%, so it would not change the numbers in the long run.

If all these people understand is senseless brutality, show them that we are capable and willing to perform brutality on a scale they cannot imagine, the fear of death will kick in and take care of the rest.

They rejected my application. I don't approve of the "sternly worded letter" approach to handling foreign relations with ultra oppressive religious zealots.

In my world, there would probably be a bit of death at first, but peace after that. These people fear their god so much it is amazing, and will follow anything they construe to be their gods instructions. I would just make them fear me more than they fear their god, and will actually be around to give non batshiat crazy instructions.

Apparently the poster's solution is to nuke anybody whom the UN does not like. Sounds like a good idea 'till you start letting them vote on it. I think the US of A would be in the top five or nuking.

Your cunning plan: it has a flaw.

Hah. Well, I kind of imagined a slight break after the first S, making it something like the "Special ASS Unit".

That said, I think your plan may also achieve a similarly devastating effect - perhaps even more so. The only way to find out is to try them both.

So, I'll round up the gays and you go out and get the black women.

at80eighty: doesnt appear to specify that in this CNN article

It seems fairly clear that these are Iranian citizens working for the british embassy. And I'm positive Iran is not so stupid as to try and arrest anyone on embassy grounds. I'm sure they waited till the cleaning ladies got off work and were on their way home before taking them in.

Iran is like my roommate: They'll act obnoxious, push as close to the line as they can, and will gladly pick on anyone smaller than themselves, but will not cross the line with people that can obviously hurt them. Barely.

I think the Iranian staffers at the British embassy were either handpicked to work there, by the Iranians, for their loyalty to the revolution, or they are heavily monitored (maybe both). Either way the Iranian government know perfectly well they have nothing to do with the protests.
I expect we'll see televised false confessions next.

The Iranian government's plan is to depict the protesters as loyal to a foreign power so they can accuse them of treason.

Nope. This is part of the marathon in watching a country become democratic.
