Hopefully. I already said this, but because PK has been so prominent, the police (or whoever is in charge) might get really creative...

read this story from anon news feed about the various net efforts

Link (new window)

On Saturday, Raymond reported the group would be forced to change some of its tactics because the Iranian government had "upped the level of Internet censorship it's engaging in." Iranian government monitors were inspecting traffic more closely to see if users were accessing blocked web sites, he said.

"We're trying to provide a covert communication channel for dissenters and revolutionaries to organize through," said Raymond in a telephone interview with The Associated Press.

Raymond said a team of six hackers spend their days writing software to help Iranian Web users bypass state controls. More than 1,000 other people have offered bandwidth on servers to host proxy sites.
[snip]
Other groups are also working to create Internet havens for Iranians, including a group called Project Hydra and the Free Net project. Raymond said that many of the groups are wary of allowing media interviews because hackers tend to operate in anonymity.

I still don't want to believe, but it's hard...

IB also linked this Deutsche Welle article (new window) on PK. Google's Persian to English translation is top notch, I have to say. Must spend a while trying to translate that translation.

Everyone, pls keep in mind that PK was most definitely a GROUP of people. One of their group was arrested early last week and the rest had to go to ground for fear that their friend would be tortured to name names.

The gov't probably know all members who comprised PK, but I can't see how they'd be able to arrest all of them. I don't know how many were in their group, but I'm still taking this news with a grain of salt.

Subby's video was a risky move, if they were in America the cops would have shot them in the back no doubt.

It's Eric S. Raymond, the long-time Open Source advocate. He's the current media face because he's dealt with the media before, already has had Iranian death threats, and can handle it all while keeping others more hidden from the media.

In all probability the American Police would not have shot them in the back, unless they were FBI or BATF.

They are the only ones known to do that sort of sh*t on a regular basis, but they usually confine it to women and children; full grown adult males shoot back.

Small time cops just plant drugs in your car, and bust you on phony charges.

That way if they need you murdered, they can do it for 2 cartons of cigarettes.

Maybe 3 in some States.

pvd021: I'm pretty sure the police would have done the same if the roles and position were reversed. fark the Police.

No, this was the right thing to do. All of the violence against the protesters has been perpetrated by the Basij & Sepah. The police are pretty much caught in the middle--desert their jobs & forfeit a paycheck or perform their crowd-control duties and feed their families. They're just pawns in all of this.

Portugal. The Man: So you save them and they regroup and beat the shiat out of you at a later date and time. Great move.

The riot police aren't really committing most of the violence, they have done some, but not most of it. They're just trying to quell the crowds. It's mainly the Basij perpetrating most of the violence.

RNC protests, "less lethal" weaponry. It happens a lot at big protests, see (a big chunk in the middle of) The Miami Model for reference.

You can't base what happens in Florida on the rest of the country, though. That's why it has its own tag.

Dude, if i were in PKs shoes, I would have moved things to a different medium (civilian band radio or shortwave), and merely use the old to send out false info... or drop it all together. If PK, the person or group, has had military training, this is a very good possibility.

/long live PK

The cop thing got me thinking about the Times article I linked earlier...

"Iranian sources said 17 senior officers in the elite Revolutionary Guard had been "reassigned" because their loyalties were suspect."

I have no idea what these sources are, but if this is true, I take it as a good sign (well, not good to those people, but YKWM). While the IRG has been described as ruthless and absolutely loyal to the SL, I've found it hard to believe every one of them would happily accept the regime's tactics; these people have families, and, I hope, can use their own heads when push comes to shove. I have no doubt that some of them would love to go out shoot some eeeebil protesters, but the IRG as a whole? I hope not.

PK and another are in custody but no one is talking about it.

I doubt that the Iranian government tortures the way everyone here whines about US torture, so everything is probably going to be okay.
A couple of questions politely asked, an apology and PK and the other will be sent on their way.

To me it sounds like Ahmadinejad is trying to become dictator of Iran.

It's scary to see in Iran how easy it is for a minority of people to suppress the majority.

/can now spell Ahmadinejad without having to look it up
