Big mistake, brother. Name for me ONE plot hole in Tolkien's great fantasy epic against which all others must now be measured.

I really wonder sometimes whether or not Lucas fully comprehends just how much he farked up. He's lost just about all the respect he got from the original trilogy.

He should have taken the executive producer credit for the new trilogy and left the writer and director credits to people who still know how to make movies.

As for Ep. 7, 8 and 9, I heard that the premise was that Luke and Leia began to teach the force and rebuild the order of Jedi knights. However, there were followers who continued to follow Darth Vader (not the Emperor).

The best thing that could happen is that all the prints of episode 3 get lost in a horrible fire. We can lament that we missed out on a great movie instead of being sickened with what crap has oozed out of the Star Wars saga once again. Same notation for Star Trek movies.

the zahn trilogy was excellently written. after that lucas sold out to third-rate star trek "novelists" like Kevin J. Anderson. The Zahn books are the only readable ones in the entire star wars collection, and when i was younger i read over 40 of the star wars books, so i can say that definitively.

I had a crapload of star wars books when I was younger, too. I started picking a couple up again when someone introduced me to the "New Jedi Order" series. It's not half bad, to be honest.

The only time I have ever cried during a movie was during Empire. I can not watch the Han Solo carbonite scene without sobbing like a baby. :( (I would just like to mention here that I am very female!) I was so pissed off after watching Episode One. DAMN! And my boyfriend at the time (definitely an X-boyfriend now) built it all up to me (I wasn't allowed to go see it when it was first released, I was grounded) so I was so excited. He saw it, no kidding, at least 10 times. And then when I finally saw it I almost vomited. I am so glad it was on a date so I didn't have to pay to see that nonsense. It was dreadful. I liked EP II, I thought the visuals were great and it was a hell of a lot better than Ep I. But Empire is still my favourite! You guys wouldn't believe how farking obsessed I was in Middle School... O.O It was really weird because I was in middle school from 1995-1998 and I became obsessed before even the re-releases. Ah cable TV!

You have to realise that I was MADLY in love with Han Solo. I had posters on the walls.. and that cute collecters plate. (I was SO PISSED OFF when my best friend got a life-sized stand up of Han for Christmas and my parents REFUSED to buy me one for 4 yrs in a row for christmas. I still haven't gotten my Han!) Anyway, I was in LOVE with him. and that look in his eyes... so sad... so worried and lost and *starts getting all worked up* Err... but that was then! I'm mucu too old and mature for silly infactuations with fictional characters now! *heh*

It's little things...it's really not possible to relate to them, unless you're a hopeless nerd, or watch Star Wars movies too much, or are a natural Sherlock Holmes. Or some combination of the three. Maybe I'm the first two of those or something.

It's like, Joe Millionaire is lying in bed. He can't sleep because he feels so bad about lying to these beautiful girls. So he calls over his producer to jaw at him about it at three in the morning. Doesn't add up. Forget that here on planet Earth, the producer would say something like "Do you know what F***ing time it is???" and go back to bed, instead of jawing with Joe. Nevermind that...the question is, if you're having trouble sleeping WHY DON'T YOU KICK THAT GODDAMNED CAMERAMAN OUT OF YOUR ROOM, JOE???

It's the same thing with Star Wars. There's little tiny things you see that don't add up. Leia is Darth's daughter. He's torturing her. She's taunting him, he's lecturing her, she's standing in front of him, at one point gets shoved in to him. Furthermore, it's obvious from the lines there's a history of animosity between these two that goes back aways. She's the blood daughter he doesn't know he has, and he's the most powerful Jedi who ever lived.

He can't figure out who she is?

Of course not, because when they made this movie, he wasn't her father yet. You can hem and haw and say silly things like "uh, he couldn't sense her because he was out of balance with the Force" or "he went through all three movies hiding the fact that he knew she was his daughter" or some other lame excuse like that, but the fact of the matter is Lucas made it up as he went along.

I guess that makes me like one of those "Galaxy Quest" nerds bugging Tim Allen about the design of his spaceship. But to me, it seems like the same expectation of continuity I'd make of any classic story, like a Three Musketeers movie or a King Arthur and Camelot movie. Evidence that the story-teller is making it all up as he goes along, is unsettling. It makes it harder for me to relate to the story.

They're still great movies, though.

If the Star Wars movies will be remembered for anything, it'll be the amazing music John Williams has managed to compose for all 5 movies. The Main Title Theme, The Imperial March, The Duel of the Fates, his work is uniformly outstanding. Yeah I'm a filmscore nerd.

Man, I had one hell of an "interesting" experience taking my date to see Episode II. I still shudder when I think about it.

I'm with you Orangeglow. Episode V was the best. Maybe it's just us girls who favor that one. Han outshined Luke in every way in the original trilogy. Although I liked Episdoe II better than I, I must still say I enjoyed it. I was just so damn happy to see a new Star Wars movie. Maybe 'cause I had to wait so much longer in between movies. I'm much older than you. Graduated in '89 and don't even remember middle school. I think it's great to see the younger generation enjoying the original trilogy so they can see there is more to it than just the new ones. Here's hoping Episode 3 doesn't disappoint.

This is a very good question, but if you take my age at the time into consideration it should make more sense. I was, what, 13, 14 years old. I HATED my parents. They were the evil oppressor who grounded me and stuff. (I mean, COME ON, what kind of heartless people would ground their star wars obsessed daughter from seeing Ep I on account of less than excellent grades? BAH!). Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru... (Mostly Uncle Owen) were Lukes oppressors! Why would I be sad to see them go? I was disturbed, yes, and probably made a sad face about it, but I wasn't too crushed. And besides... I NEVER had a thing for Luke.

I wanna go to the Toshi Station and pick up some power converters... WAHHH!!!!

As for Han.. I was so infactuated with him! All my school supplies was Han, notebooks, binders, folders, organizers.. all Star Wars (Han if I could get it.) I even tricked the little kids I was baby-sitting into playing Star Wars with me. They would pretend to be Jaina and Jacen and I was EVERYONE ELSE IN THE FARKING UNIVERSE. You ever thought about the possibility that a force-latent and and dark side wouldn't notice each other? I'm hoping that it's explained that Leia is removed from the scene before Anakin even sees her, so he doesn't even know she exists. I theorize that Force-latents don't attract that much attention from the sensitive unless they were purposefully searching for them. Remember, Vader didn't sense Luke until he started using the Force in the Death Star trench.

Also, the Dark Side can be blinding, you know? If you're Anakin doing all these horrible things and succumb to the dark side, either your conscience is suppressed or erased. Since Vader redeems himself, I think this just means his conscience was suppressed. That being the case, couldn't other mental processes be affected as well?

Amen, sister! If you haven't read it yet I HIGHLY recommend The Courtship of Princess Leia. It is a most excellent book! :D I think it should be required reading for any girlie star wars fan. :)

That's another thing. The Luke/Leia/Han love triangle. Han Solo was supposed to be an idiosyncratic comic character. Chewbacca was in the earlier scripts supposed to be his big hairy girlfriend. Luke was the sex symbol. Think about it...the Bee Gees were in style, David Cassidy was cool, fluffy hair was in. Luke was supposed to be the guy who would get the girl.

Anyway, I agree with DrRocks1982. Star Wars is like a Looney Tunes cartoon: You turn off the sound, you ain't got nothin'. Although, I don't believe Williams can claim credit for composing the Imperial March.

Mkfreeberg, you're not making any sense, sorry. Vader didn't even know he had a daughter. There's nothing to insinuate that he should have recognized her. There aren't any plot holes in the films, just people who don't pay attention to them. Don't mean to sound like the Comic Book guy but when people arbitrarally declare PLOT HOLE without understanding the story it's kind of annoying.

I'm only 20, have loved Star Wars for the past 10 years, and have been getting into the expanded universe books and characters. (I'm partial to Mara Jade and Kyle Katarn, myself.)

But there was something about Courtship that just didn't sit well with me. Maybe it was contradictions with Zahn's writings, who knows?
