I don't think they'd care at this point.

2009-06-22 11:16:29 AM
All I know is that I'm going to haunt the shiat out of anyone who even thinks about selling concessions within a 300 foot radius of my grave.

2009-06-22 11:17:29 AM
Nothing offends me more than people trying to experience some happiness and joy out of life by the graves of people who gave their lives to protect that happiness. Damnit!

Do you know how bad the Republican whargarrble has gotten?

Before I clicked, I was POSITIVE this was going to be someone butthurt that Obama took his children for ice cream WHILE A WAR IS HAPPENIGN!!!@11

/and it wouldn't have surprised any of you.

I need more information. Is he just standing quietly outside the cemetery gates, nodding grimly to each passerby and gesturing with a slight hand movement or inclination of his head toward his ice cream cart? Or is he standing on a podium yelling GET your ice cream, ICE COLD ice cream, GET your ICE CREAM, get YOUR ICE cream over and over again? 'Cause those are two totally different situations.

2009-06-22 11:38:38 AM
Can you dig it? Yes I can.

2009-06-22 11:38:52 AM
It's not a cemetery and there are no graves nearby. They are memorial gates with the names of dead soldiers on them. It seems to me that he would have been okay if he sold something that honoured the fallen soldiers, like Poppysicles.

Pocket Ninja: I need more information. Is he just standing quietly outside the cemetery gates

I don't think this WAS a cemetery. I think it is just a park who's gate is a memorial to war dead.

If that's the case, that's retarded. I live in Somerville, MA and every single intersection is named after a dead soldier.

Bomb Pops are patriotic and delicious, too.

Possibly relevant fact: It's the first UK Armed Forces and Veterans Day on Sunday, and Oswestry held a flag-raising ceremony at the memorial gates today.

It's a good thing he wasn't selling corn cobs because everyone there already seems to have one up their ass.

At first I read the headline and I was like, 'WTF?'...and then I DRTFA, so again was like, 'WTF?'...

I really thought so too. The dude that was filling in for Rush Limbaugh today kept making "ice cream parlor" jokes. Like the president isn't allowed to have a frozen treat until the whole world is a utopian (free-market, of course) paradise?

I believe that you have hit the nail on the head.

Lol. I was expecting some Ben and Jerry Iraq Rocky Road or some such as the cause for alarm.

Those people died in those wars so we here and now can eat ice cream at any time of the year whenever the hell we want.

Silly people.
The dead only know one thing; it's better to be alive.

Marge: Homer, this is a cemetery!
Man: Hot dogs! Get your hot dogs here.
Homer: Woo hoo! [buys one]
Marge: What do you do, follow my husband around?
Man: Lady, he's putting my kids through college.

It's just tasteless to try and make a buck outside of a damn memorial site. I just good on them. Buy a friggin truck and drive around, or set up shop elsewhere...

If I had died in WWII, I would bloody well HOPE that I had helped enable people to continue to enjoy a nice ice cream on a hot day, wherever they choose to enjoy it. I thought that's what dying for your country was supposed to be about, to protect the lifestyles of everyone else not fighting.

I agree with what was said above though: if he's hollering some loud disruptive pitch to sell his wares, then he should move along. A memorial is a place for quiet introspection. But if he's just standing there merely being visible as a source of tasty treats, let him stand there and sell.

2009-06-22 02:49:21 PM
Please excuse my second sentence, as it makes no sense.

He should be selling strudel to honor the war heroes...

The ruling has also baffled many of Josh's customers.

"Everyone seems to be telling me that even old soldiers like an ice cream," Josh said.

A spokesperson for Shropshire Council confirmed that complaints had been received but was not able to say how many.

Sounds like the council person(s) want to close down competition for someone who contributes to their campaigns. anyone feel the same here?

I hate going to the cemetery and not being able to order a Starbucks triple-venti iced gayberry frappucino or a McDonald's Big Mac.

More liberal whining. Big suprise. Maybe if you did something other then biatch about everything people would take you seriously.

If my gravesite is going to be that big of a tourist draw that people set up concession stands around me, I'd be pretty satisfied.

You don't think taking advantage of dead people in order to make a buck is tasteless?

How DO you take advantage of someone who is already dead? I must be slow too...
