Are speeding tickets deductible as a "business expense" in the US? My boss gets more than I do and we both were just wondering.

OK, I'll speed... as long as you let me do one thing...

So, Beating someone into a coma in hospital = suspended sentence.

Theft of a medium sum of wealth from an elite circle of people (rich jewlers) = 10 years hard knocks?

Unlike most violent criminals, jewel theives typically weigh the risks vs. benefits of their heist beforehand. So in this case long sentences really COULD act as a deterrent.

// granted, it's not wise to let a bunch of dangerous idiots roam the streets, either.

What are you talking about? I saw nothing about someone being beaten into a coma in the article.

What's the point in getting a speeding ticket on top of jail time?

Since it happened in the nanny state speeding will probably get you more time than robbing a jewelry store.

Neil Murray deserves to be beat into a coma.

driving with the flow of traffic would not draw attention, they should have had a second car spotted a couple miles away to have had greater success.

cats4rent is right, driving with the flow of traffic would not draw attention. Unless you're driving a stolen Alfa Romeo in which case you get the fark out of dodge.

Depends on why you're speeding so much, I would think; and also how talented your accountant is come tax time. While I doubt "speeding because I like to sleep in" is deductible, "speeding because my job is testing the brakes on new Masseratis" might be.

One of my 'm8s' was caught red dead on cctv last year kerb stomping some guys head in town after getting very drunk and looking for a fight, then running from police. The vid is all over the local news website, the curb is one of those very sharp edged nice looking granite ones too. He just got 12 months suspended. I saw him a few days ago pissed off his head again in public doing pull ups on a speed camera while the popo rolled on by.

Nice to know if he had stuck up a jewlery shop for a laugh instead of GBH hed have gotten years, but i have to wonder why the disparity. FTA, an assistant was 'menaced' for less than a minuite = 10 years, brutal granite kerb stomp = suspended term?

Since I had to Google it, here's the US translations, to spare others the trouble:

GBH = grievous bodily harm (assault & battery)
kerb = curb
"for a laugh" = for the hell of it
kerb stomping = ??? I'm guessing it involves biscuits or tea
