Just been watching some interviews with analysts and after everything I'm seeing about what's been going on in Iran, it's looking like the only way the current regime can stay in power is to call new elections and behave themselves. If they do anything else, they'll just be swept away.

Topping that all off is that most /b/tards will click on anything if it promises to be CP or a hot video, and that's caused 4chan some issues recently with their own users inadvertently spamming the site and/or DDoSing it because the "CP" they downloaded was a virus - most recently it was Vundo IIRC.

Nothing has changed. Nothing will change. Fires, violence, twitter.

This update will work tomorrow too. And the next day, and the day after that, etc.

Thanks now how about something from someone who isn't a complete dick/troll?

Seriously, what is different from any of the last 4 days? Tell me the progress made through the twitters and the thousands of hours of uploaded blurry cellphone videos?

I'll answer for you. Nothing is different. Absolutely nothing.

nothing has really changed from the 2004 protests (or the ones even earlier), but nothing lasts forever and those people in the streets will make a difference. hopefully, that will happen soon.

It's better than jack to those who know ANYTHING about the region. One of my best friends is an Iraqi Sunni, and another is an Israeli citizen. Arabs in Iran mean a world of difference to me. It's not that I want to believe or am slobbing Tatsuma's knob, it's a giant geopolitical coup for that to happen. I need to know.

In Tehran dawn has come and gone and now it's full morning. In a few hours history will be made there for good or ill.

My heart goes out to the Iranian people daring to demand their voice be heard. You have in you the power to change the world if only you have faith.

It is not likely that we will understand these events as they unfold. For the meaning of a moment to reach its full potential subsequent events must unfold to give it context. Often a great triumph is turned to ashes, a crashing loss into a bright future by the effects of what happened on the day.

Whatever happens will be interesting to be sure. The world is watching and it will be remembered.

2009-06-19 12:55:06 AM
Uh, oh:

"Iranians will look to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's speech before Friday prayers today for an indication of whether he will back President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in the standoff following last week's election.

"Hundreds of thousands of supporters of the primary Iranian presidential challenger, Mir Hossein Mousavi, dispersed peacefully last night after gathering in central Tehran for a sixth day of demonstrations following the disputed June 12 election.

"Khamenei will lead prayers at about 1 p.m. in Tehran in the presence of the Basij, the voluntary militia which has close ties to the Revolutionary Guards, the group said in a statement on state-run Mehr news agency. The militia warned the defeated candidates to 'explicitly dissociate themselves from the rioters.'"

Biological Ali: In any event, I'd suggest changing it from "highly probable" to "persistent rumour", and to reconsider the inclusion of the Der Spiegel link in that section.

It can only help to make things more accurate, if even by a tiny bit.

That and it'd stop this inane commentary on it. A few people on the ground, including a second hand opinion from Persepolis' family, brought it up and an article that listed it as being speculative at best isn't enough to really mention it as being more than rumour. Doubly so since we haven't heard anything about it in recent tweets and folks have been adding Hamas and Venezula to the mix of suspected participants as well.

I notice that the issue of the objectivity of the summary has come up again. For those who have not yet laid the issue to rest the following two threads are, I believe, the first where Tatsuma posted a summary (at 2009-06-14 09:57:37 PM) and the thread after, where, I believe, Tatsuma Boobiesed a summary at the top of the thread

You can see quite clearly that he appears to have ignored evidence to the contrary of his position that was discussed at the same time. I assume only that this was an honest mistake, though, and no doubt due to the effort of creating the summary.

I know 90% of you don't want to hear this. No need to tell me, but I look forward to your questions and constructive criticism

Biological Ali: That they may have been Arabs is easy enough to show, however, that they were specifically Lebanese Hizbullah can't be established with any degree of confidence based on the evidence we have, though it does appear to be a popular rumour.

Exactly. The allegation is so widespread and provocative it can't be ignored. No matter how that's handled there's just no right way to deal with it. So pick one, and roll out.

No! We need to be prolific. We need to insert links to these images and videos in motherboard reviews and recipe comments. We need to "accidently" link the youtube links and shortened URLs into every topic and every board in every language on the 'net. We need to embarrass ourselves. Since you seem to need an example, here's my slashdot post on the subject, in response to a thread on yet-another stupid Microsoft patent.

Indeed. I mean, it's hardly the most important issue here, and it really is quite appalling to see the amount of vitriol being spewed over what should be a fairly straightforward discussion on the point.
