With the exception of the worst of the worst, the concept of ex post facto punishment disgusts me. That's not applicable here, because the law change didn't stop the accused from keeping on with the first girl.

I find it noteworthy that Canada allows an adult to continue hitting it if the younger person continues to consent upon becoming legal.

My money is on the original age of consent being 14 and then raised to 16. To be honest, under 16 does strike me as a little young to be in a relationship with an adult. Someone that young is so easy to manipulate that they might as well not have a say in the matter.

I'm guessing the green band is to show solidarity with the Iranians who are fighting for democracy. The green color represents the party that wants a free Iran. There has been at least 16 greenlighted articles.

The legal age of consent in Canada was indeed raised from 14 to 16 on May 1, 2008. Some exceptions apply. Wiki

Prosecutor Paul Mason said he normally would have sought a harsher sentence, but said there were evidentiary problems with his case.

It sounds to me like "evidentiary problems" should more likely lead to an acquittal rather than a lighter sentence.

It's almost as if you could be found guilty based on "Well, we really think you farked a couple of minors, but we're not sure so we'll only sentence you to 110 days".

Canadian law prohibits ex post facto punishment. She continued to hit it after the age was raised from 14 to 16 - and was charged for this. She should've known better.

Could be busy with other work - committees, visits, etc. Senators in Canada are appointed to serve until they turn 75, and a lot of the work in the Senate is done in review committees, etc. - the Senate generally picks apart legislation and ensures it's proper.
