2003-02-19 03:27:09 PM
How long until an Arab news website denounces the US for this?

2003-02-19 03:27:33 PM
Didn't the US Navy shoot down an Iranian airliner once....

2003-02-19 03:27:37 PM

2003-02-19 03:28:27 PM
I'm sure we (the U.S.A.) are going to be blamed somehow

2003-02-19 03:28:59 PM
They're starting to say that it wasn't full of civilians, but military on FoxNews.

2003-02-19 03:29:14 PM
It wasn't a plane full of terrorists,
they were freedom fighters.

2003-02-19 03:29:15 PM
250 people died. Show some respect.

2003-02-19 03:29:19 PM
FoxNews just reported that the plane was filled with military personell not civilians - no word on who'se military yet , commercial break.

2003-02-19 03:29:21 PM
The readers of this site have always had trouble distinguishing Arabs from Persians.

2003-02-19 03:29:21 PM
At least we won't see throngs of Americans cheering and burning the Iranian flag.

Sad nonetheless.

2003-02-19 03:29:25 PM
it's not good. it's sad. jerks

U
2003-02-19 03:31:11 PM
where do they sell iranian flags for burning? just curious.

not sure i would fly air iran. just doesn;t "feel" safe.

2003-02-19 03:31:33 PM
that's terrible

2003-02-19 03:31:38 PM
There has to be a good conspiracy theory in here somewhere.

How about the U.S. will try and blame this on terrorist so Iran will get pissed at Iraq and start another Iran Iraq war.

2003-02-19 03:31:44 PM
Washington Post has more:

Apparently it was filled with military personel.

2003-02-19 03:31:58 PM
America's fault, Wright brothers were first to fly.

Actually, New Zealand's fault because Richard Pearce flew months before the Wrights but due to isolation nobody knew.

2003-02-19 03:32:03 PM
Television said no other details were immediately available.

Further, it was added, no donkeys could be found for questioning.

/old fark reference, meh I got nuthin

2003-02-19 03:32:34 PM
Ok not civilians still there not at war with us ......yet

2003-02-19 03:33:08 PM
An eye for an eye makes the world blind.

2003-02-19 03:33:09 PM
Vade_101: Yes. The USS Vincennes shot down an Iranian airliner in 1988. 290 killed according to Google search.

2003-02-19 03:33:35 PM
I still want to know where my money is.

2003-02-19 03:34:11 PM

See what happens when a good islamic nation secularizes.

That Allah, he's one bad mofo.

2003-02-19 03:34:40 PM
'the west' vs fanaticism

equals

modernism vs medievalism

2003-02-19 03:34:56 PM
I hope Muhammad Ali and Kareem Abdul Jabbar were on that plane because those two Muslim terrorists scare the bejeezus out of me

/sarcasm, for those small-minded things that hope that hate will replace that growing dark space of fear in their hearts

2003-02-19 03:35:19 PM
And even if is was members of Iran's military, it doesn't make it OK to celebrate their deaths. We're not at war with Iran. In fact, Iran is Iraq's long-time enemy, so since we're supposedly Iraq's sworn enemy, what does that make Iran?

If a planeload of U.S. civilians or servicemembers goes down, would it be acceptable for Iranians to celebrate? If not, why is it acceptable to for Americans to celebrate and Iranian plane crash?

2003-02-19 03:37:04 PM
Mr Hamza - recently banned from preaching at London's Finsbury Park mosque - said Muslims would consider the crash as a "sign from God"

2003-02-19 03:37:05 PM
Iran ... not Iraq.

Missed it by one letter.

(See, we don't like them any better than they like us)

2003-02-19 03:37:31 PM
Iranians are not Arabs.

2003-02-19 03:37:44 PM
vade_101 yes. The Vincennes and a few other ships were involved. From a relative's account (Sr. Chief in the Navy now, lower rank then) the bodies floated immediately, causing the US to believe the plane was filled with already dead bodies....

2003-02-19 03:37:49 PM
right on CYBERLUDDITE

2003-02-19 03:38:50 PM
02-19-03 03:31:49 PM CanuckGuy
Wow. The utter repusliveness of 90% of the posts in here is staggering.

True enough. How does a CanuckGuy like this unvarnished view of the common American mentality? Let me know if you hear of any good jobs for me up there in Canada, because I've pretty much had enough of the assholes that are taking over this country. How depressing.

2003-02-19 03:39:08 PM
Cyberluddite -- The mullahs that, basically, run Iran regardless of what the elected officials want, are no friends of the United States. However, there have been indications that said powerless elected officials, and a considerable part of the citizenry, are increasingly angry at the Ayatollahs. Khatami has repeatedly praised "the great American people" and seems to want better ties.

2003-02-19 03:39:47 PM
Yeah, I'm not going to post anything negitive about this crash but I do expect to see it on fark. I'm actually surprised when people do say stuff that is heartfelt or shows concern for someone dying. I always thought that it was the detachment from the actual situation (someone cutting their head off, plane crashing, etc) that made people decide to joke about it.

2003-02-19 03:40:06 PM
well at least thats 250 people in the mideast that Dubya cant kill :D

2003-02-19 03:40:14 PM
Gatortarheel (and the like):

Let me guess. You already have plastic sheeting duct taped to your windows right?

2003-02-19 03:42:13 PM
Terrible.

As I was waiting for the article to load up (sparce as it was) I thought to myself, I hope it wasn't foul play. Then, does that mean I was hoping it was an accident? That's horrible too. I guess I just hoped it was mis-reported and all of those people really got to go home and see their families.

Doesn't look like they will. That's too bad.

2003-02-19 03:42:51 PM
ZipBeep: I hope you don't misunderstand my posting. It's an indictment of radically intolerant fundamentalism/patriotism, not a "we're better than them".

2003-02-19 03:43:31 PM
How does a CanuckGuy like this unvarnished view of the common American mentality?

I've gotten used to it. I've been on far for a while.

I must say this is the worst spewing of vitrol and hate that I've seen in a while though.

And American wonder why the rest of the world hates you.

2003-02-19 03:45:46 PM
""Joey? Have you ever been in a... in a Turkish prison?"
