I've been away from the news for a little bit... did I miss the part Fark decided how we could help PK out with his request?

Unfortunately, the mods are heavily discouraging illegal activity, i.e. DDoS. The main option is to send it to 4chan /b/. I don't want to go near that site, but you're welcome to alert them to it. I'm sure they'd have fun, if only for the lulz.

buzzvert: Tatsuma: Even in the last hours other independent twitter feeds have declared witnessing thugs beating on people while shouting in Arabic; I will refer to them as Hizbullah)

Tats... I'm still trying to find any information that verifies this claim and I am coming up with nothing (please reference my earlier posts and research on this). Given the fact that this is a far-reaching little snippet now, that's really an inflammatory thing to put in your message. Calling anyone beating on anyone else while shouting in Arabic "hezbollah" is equivalent to calling all diamond merchants "Jews". It's a little presumptious isn't it?

I'd also like to make a call to remove the mention of the lebanese hizbullah. It has not been backed up at all. You can mention that some of the thugs were speaking in Arabic, but Lebanese seems unlikely based on what's come out to this point.

Instead you should add a brief section on the IRG and the Iranian Army.

Going to do a quick search on any more info that's come out before I go to sleep, especially info from other cities, but I wouldn't mind if some nice farkers help expedite my search.

I counted 19,265 posts in the 12 Iran threads so far...although I'm sure there are more even as I write this. My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Iran and all people who have the courage to stand up for what they believe in without violence.

chrylis: dlegatt: So i sent info about my proxy to @protesterhelp and @austinheap. Now looking at my proxy access logs, i see an IP from bejing accessing http://www.wantsfly.com/prx.php?.
should I be worried?

Unfortunately, if you sent it as an "@" (reply), it's visible publicly and likely blocked in Iran and being used from somewhere else. If you sent it as a direct message, then probably it's being used in a proxy chain and you're OK.

Actually i emailed them botth directly, so they should be the only ones with that info. Looking back at the page, it does look like some other proxy response. Thanks!

Lost Thought 00: I think you have that backwards. Once they start shooting, the revolution ends very quickly (or at least the populous revolution).

Normally I'd agree. But in that part of the world it's not serious until the shooting starts, and that level of violence is the only thing that will give this thing some legs. Plus, if some are refusing to shoot that means that even the army is divided, and may turn on itself.

The best thing for Iranians is for this thing to end by the military taking the side of the citizens and turning on the Mullahs. The best thing for the US is for that place to turn on itself and for violence to continue indefinitely and indiscriminately. They can't shake their saber at us if it's being used to cut up their own citizens.

SilentStrider: reposted from another thread:

One thing potentially frightens me, and I brought this up the other night.
What if someone outside interferes. The most obvious choices, at least in terms of resources, would be Russia or China. They've both already accepted the official election results. I'm afraid of Ahmadinejad or someone else getting desperate, and the Russians or the Chinese throwing into the fray.
I'm sure part of why Obama's been so diplomatic in the way he's been speaking to avoid antagonizing either of them, but what happens if the shiat hits the fan?

Very nice question. If you remember your late 20th century history the 2 superpowers shared Iran/Iraq. Well not really shared but one would have Iran and one would have Iraq as client states. The '79 revolution in Iran lost the US a client state so we buddied up to Iraq
(pic of Rumsfeild shaking Saddam's hand goes here)
The Soviets then took Iran on as a client state.
Otherwise the Russian's and the Chinese would be pissed at Iran and Iraq being in or zone of influence.

in case some of you missed it earlier in the thread (we do tend to lose things in these massive threads...btw, anyone seen my gf?)

here's a Iran twitter grid. perfect for keeping all your revolutionary tweets in order and right on one page! Tell your friends you're starting a coup from the safety of one tab! Hands cramping up from clicking on tab after tab after tab trying to read all your tweets at once? Tweet grid makes it simple to find out which one of your revolutionaries are doing what!

Enjoy, and remember, a tweet for Iran is a tweet for hope:

The BEST thing for the US? No. . . The best thing for the US would be the protestors win and install a moderate democracy open to diplomacy. The second best result is probably indefinite, disorganized civil war. But I hope that doesn't happen, because I'm not enough of an ass to wish that on a country just because it might help mine.

Really, I don't see any way that the US comes out a loser here. Lots of ways the people of Iran come out the loser, though

I remember very well how rampant speculation about who did what ran amok after 9/11. Some of that rampant speculation, bad sources of information and broken logic trains got us into Iraq. My BS-detector is a little hard-wired now as a result of that.
