I do. Couple more peaceful demonstrations, and it's done. If it was going to escalate, it would have.

It's stunning to me how supposedly erudite TV news analysts don't get that this is no longer about the election results or a vote recount.

If the U.N. went in there and confirmed I'm-a-damn-nutjob won, the young people of Iran aren't going to go, "Oh. OK, then. Sorry. We'll now continue with oppressive theocracy as usual."

ChopSueyKS: I think my post in the last thread got cut off due to the switch, if not, sorry if I'm repeating myself:

Unless my google-fu is particularly bad tonight, no such article by Der Spiegel seems to exist. Someone please try to prove me wrong.

Even if it is true, Der Speigel does have a history of attempting to trash Hezbullah and (according to some) has fabricated links between Hezbullah and other events that just aren't true. Namely, the assassination attempt on Hariri.

Link (new window) regarding the Hariri bit.

The article is in German. Interesting that Der Speigel has a history of trashing and fabricating links between Hizbullah and other events.

This whole thing smells like bullshiat.

Speaking of whom, PK & SA have been offline for over an hour. C_f_I is still going strong, though, but he mentioned a wound to his leg. I'm getting concerned...

SA mentioned that he was going on "radio silence" for a bit. Probably a smart move considering how late it is getting.

Jeeze Tats. Kudos.

GAT_00: Talon: Because the forced pagination is like 10 posts per page. you can't control+f to find your own name to see who has responded to you withouth paging through dozens of pages.

/would support pagination if it were 500 posts per page.

Odd. You sure that isn't somewhere in your own settings? That would be really annoying.

I'll check.

It might be that forced pagination is 500 per page for you because you are already set to have pagination at 500 per page... and that when the forced pagination kicks in for me (and presumably everyone else) it goes to the default number per page (which I exagerated at 10, but which is more like 20 per page).

Not really, he's been pretty good about stating when things are confirmed or not, and just laying out who the actors are and what actions they've taken.
You need to differentiate posts that are meant to help and inform and posts where he's expressing how pissed he is at the situation. I can see both at work and it shouldn't be hard to see when helpful Tats is at work and when angry Tats is writing. Do you take issue with his summary? Or with commentary?
Does his commentary take away from his re-capping?

Yes! We should become nationalistic and let "those people" handle "their problems". F' this global economy BS and stop sending aid like we are made out of money. We're not. Also, we should only buy from (North) American countries. And I'm looking at approximately 1 that makes that list. U.S.A.! U.S.A.!

It's a pity HAM operators are so few and far between these days thanks to the internet. Some CW out of Iran would probably be a great source of information and it'd be harder to track/shut down.

garyg: Screw Obama. Those Iranians are never gonna vote for the guy we want until we threaten to impose sanctions if they vote for the wrong guy.

Constructing a military base or two would be a great way of reminding them what happens if they don't vote for their freedoms like adults.

You best be trolling.

"Hmm, well, let's see here... we've interfered in another democratic process of Iran... what to do next? Hmm... what to do... what to do..... OH! They wouldn't be mad if we stationed some of our military personnel there, would we? I mean, I know we just bombed the shiat out of Iraq for no reason - but they can overlook that - right?"

Also, just because they have a different structure to their democracy, does not make it any less of a democracy.

Ditto the sentiments on Obama's cautious stance on this issue.

This isn't the first time Iran has had a burgeoning youth movement for greater freedoms. In the past, American leadership has taken a hard stance against the Iranian government, and effectively set those movements back tremendously. The Iranian government uses these statements to exploit their people's fear of American military intervention, and their citizens rally around them, even if they don't agree with their policies. Bush's "Axis of Evil" speech helped the Iranian government a lot.

Obama is doing the right thing here. Let Iran's own democracy movement gain momentum on its own. (Trust me, it will). Any tough statements Obama makes will only serve to rally the Persian people against us.

jeffspec: The people just wanted their voices to be heard and followed. Will the same thing happen in Iran. I know that it has evolved into its own monster aside from peaceful protesting election results, but is that how it started and then once they saw how big a following it was they realized they actually had the manpower to enact change in the theocracy?

I think that this is a similar situation, yes, but people realized quite soon that they now had the power to topple this regime, this is why we saw the 7 Points list starting to make the rounds.

People might not have asked for it at first, but I think most wished for this, and quickly realized as the first bullets were fired that it was now within grasp

They work in shifts, go back and read through all of the threads on this. You can see several distinctly different levels of english grammar at work.

If someone had the time, they could pull all of those posts, go forensic on the language in them and show exactly when they rotate.

I always knew Mossad was spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to have operatives spread misinformation on Fark

They announced just such a program a couple of years ago.

They have even provided software to coordinate it.

According the Jerusalem Post, Amir Gissin, head of the Public Affairs Department of the Foreign Ministry of Israel, has expressed support for the tool's use. "The Foreign Ministry itself is now pushing the idea, urging supporters of Israel everywhere to become cyberspace soldiers in the new battleground for Israel's image." it reports.[11] Computing website The Register has described use of the software as "highly organised mass manipulation of technologies which are supposed to be democratising" and claimed Megaphone is "effectively a high-tech exercise in ballot-stuffing"

Possibly. I can say for myself that I don't have problems, at 1500+ is just page 4 to me. Plus limiting to 500 a page makes for much quicker load times, and I still run a single core 2GHz processor, so it's actually noticeable.

Amateur Radio CAN reach Iran but there are very few licensed hams there and the antennas needed to reach the states would be VERY obvious (in most cases). You can see that the latest updates on ham radio in Iran was over 10 years ago here: http://www.qsl.net/ep2fm/AmateurRadioInIran.htm

Also, it is nearly impossible to import transmitting equipment into Iran.

A lot of the wharrgarbllers are missing the difference between two situations. It serves their purpose to do so.
We (THe U.S.)shouldn't have involved ourselves in Iraq. There was no just cause, nor strategic benefit at the time. There was only a quest for an "easy victory" post 9-11, and oil revenues to boot.
THIS TIME IT'S DIFFERENT
We're witnessing a grassroots, youth-led uprising against their own corrupt and unfair system of government. A government so filled with hubris that it tries to defraud its own population in a fixed election.
As American's who believe in and actually LIVE in a symbol of liberty freedom and equal opportunity, we need to stand beside this young generation of courageous Iranians and somehow TELL THEIR STORY,since the MSM obviously isn't.
Just giving them the honor of mention and discussion, just spreading the word about what the TRUE situation is may be enough to give them the edge they need to reshape their own nation.
Why is this not a noble pursuit?

Again, kudos to Tatsuma for doing the grunt work!
