HeartBurnKid: Repost from last thread:

If you have a Twitter account, log in now and change your location and time zone to Tehran. Apparently, the Iranian gov't is sweeping Twitter looking for dissidents, and this will help obfuscate.

I did it, but does anybody know if this actually does anything?

DFWPhotoGuy: CanisNoir: stickmangrit: you as a right-wing troll on par with Darconix and Bevets.

there are not words to express how wrong i was in that assumption. i may not agree with all of your views, but at least you're smart enough to have views that you've taken the time and effort to think through. if nothing else, you have my respect sir. you have now joined Tatsuma on the list of Farkers i never thought i'd Favorite.

LOL, even when I'm at my most Trollish, I could never compete with those two :P

Thank you sir, I admit to having some Trolly moments but generally like to consider myself an open minded person even if I am a Right Winger.

/Feel free to shoot me should I ever subscribe to Free Republic :P

BTW...where is Bevets? Did he get banhammered or leave or what?

Maybe he was in the process of having a Tatsuma moment today and the strain was too much. He may have had an aneurysm.

Seriously, good job Tats. (and I often quietly agree with you)

freepers (neocons et al) need a boogeyman to hate. until russia steps up its game, they NEED iran to be run by crazy farktards. they can't sleep at night unless there's some "evil" out there they can cower in uninformed fear of.

Bah, don't be foolish. Dj Kimmy Ill is threatening to nuke South Korea, I think we have a boogeyman at the ready should we decide we truly need one.

/It's a fallacy to think all Right Wingers don't want to see everyone enjoy freedom; we just disagree on how best to help that cause out.

expobill: Hey Farkers.. this happens in a lot of countries, about 7 times a year.
Thailand, Pakisatn, Rwanda, Mynmar, Georgia, and el savador have conflicts over voting and unfair oppression towards their citizens since 2008.
we are just amazed because we saw 1 mil people on CNN marching

Big difference here is that Iran is a central decision-maker in the Islamic world - what it does drives a lot of what happens in the greater Muslim community, and if it goes centrist, democratic, and pushes back against the theocracy, well, that's a pretty big thing.

/Great, great job here, Farkers, by the way. I'm really impressed with the way that information is being collated and distributed here. Keep it up.

After scanning these threads for the last hour or two, I just have to say:

1.) I never thought I'd see the day Twitter broke news faster than the media.

and

2.) It's really great to see everyone on Fark (except for the handful of dumbshiat trolls) come together in support of an issue.

Just my two cents.

SilentStrider: In the end, it could be considered a test. If they're truly willing to sacrifice for their freedom, then no number of armed thugs are going to stop them.

Lets hope it doesn't come to that, because I think you are wrong. the problem with "soft" revolutions is that they rely on a degree of civility from the powers in charge, not a strong suit of the Iranian government.

After that it comes down to guns, the protesters and people of Iran are unarmed and the Army and Police are sitting it out at this point. Unless they get involved, or some miracle has the council do the right thing I don't see anything coming from this but a bunch of dead kids.

I pray that this goes the way we all want it to with a minimum loss of life, but I would not bet on that outcome despite my desire for it to come to pass.

Weaver95: True. But people should know that it'll get worse before it gets better. I'm a bit uncomfortable sitting here in safety and urging others to put their asses on the line for freedom.

a good point. Still, think of it this way.
Right now, the Iranian government doesn't want ANY information getting out. Anything getting out is a thumb in their eye. And the more eyes that see that information, the greater the injury to the insult.

Like I said in the overnight thread, this is like 9/11 all over again* for Fark, because everyone's pretty much unified in support of the opposition movement.

*You know, except for the whole attack-on-America thing.

Komplex: And a twitter account and facebook profile page is all we can do?

We've got two things here besides voices: money and guns.

Money we could possibly send, guns we definitely couldn't. But I tell you what, ANYTHING the US does to look like it is supporting a progressive, maybe even anti-mullah uprising in Iran is only going to illegitimize that uprising in the eyes of many.

The internet has been beating the media at their own game for years. I remember back during Katrina we had people down south near the gulf posting what was going over the radio from officials in near real time. Not normal broadcast radio, the communications bands.
