So since the Post said it, it's really the exact opposite?

When I see those ads for Bing I keep thinking "If those people weren't morans and knew how to put together a decent search they'd have no problem."

Also, if you have to put ads on tv, you're not gonna beat Google.

I've tried Bing and for a search engine it's not bad, but I don't think it will ever fully replace google.

That being said, I do like Bing's video preview feature.

No.

I've been annoyed with google for a while now, and been using yahoo. Bing seems to be as good as both -but far better when it comes to pictures or video.

Actually, the fear crushing the heart of Google is Microsoft's growing monopoly case against Google in Washington. That's why Google jumped on board the EU's newest trendy "WE HATE MICROSOFT" lawsuit about web browsers.

Bing has some neat features but Google will simple replicate and improve those features to crush Bing.

Need an answer - go Bing it..... doesn't sound right

Effective branding is incredibly powerful. Google will remain top-dog for at least another 5-10 years on name power alone, unless MS is willing to dump a few billion in exhaustive advertising.

Microsoft's way forward is the 360. With the additions of digital TV, digital movie rentals, and Facebook/Twitter you can see that they're going hard after the average home consumer in presenting a unified entertainment solution. What's interesting about this is that they're starting to compete with their own desktop OS in some respects.

Heh, I'm sure it'll take off like fire. I saw that a few right-wing sites were decrying Google's lack of flag day decor and demanding everyone use Bing.

It's a pretty nice search engine overall, but it's not really gonna make a dent on Google any time soon.

I'm using altavista so I don't know what this is all about.

I get what Bing's advertising. I get the "search cacophony" angle they're playing. But I have to mute at least 2 of their commercials like it's Billy Mays bellowing about OxyClean. Grating on my nerves and causing headaches doesn't endear me to your product/service. Sure I do remember your name, but not for the right reasons.

More advertising like this will not help.

The zune is now the #2 mp3 player on the market, if MS plays their cards right a lot of 360 owners will be slowly migrating over.

There's nothing wrong with keeping up with the competition. Don't think this is fear as much as good business sense.

Bing has been blocked by my workplace because of its video preview feature. Makes it too easy to view the pr0n.

Or if they're not ex-GNU maybe just "But it's not Google", a common criticism of upstart search engines.

No, they aren't competing with their own desktop. MS big money in desktops is industry. You aren't going to see 360s as commercial desktops this side of the great depression... Oh ok you got me..

I've been using Bing since launch, and I really like it so far. I added a bing search engine to my firefox engines. The video preview feature is really what sold it for me.

2009-06-15 10:42:28 AM
I just haven't been impressed with Bing at all. It's mostly just Live Search with a fresh coat of paint, and still as laggy as hell. Google is fast, which is the number one thing that attracts me to it. I pop in a search term, hit Enter and my results are there damn near instantaneously.

Live Search's video preview feature is a neat quirk, I'll admit, (and I realize I just accidentally called it Live Search and not Bing, which shows how unconvinced I am by the change) but I don't see it changing my web browsing experience. Most video I want to view online is hosted on a site with a competent search engine already, and I already know where to find it. Then I don't have to watch a tiny thumbnail preview of it.

Google should be worried, if MS keeps up the marketing onslaught. Google lives off of selling advertising, period. That's what they are: advertising brokers, dressed up as tech innovators. All the cutesy projects they release (which seem to evaporate into obscurity more often than not) won't save them if they start losing ground on the advertising front.

it consistently doesn't come up with top websites when you search for them or even options close to. it's crap. stop fooling yourself fanboy. Excite.com was better 10 years ago.

I don't see much difference between the name 'Bing' and 'Google' or 'Yahoo' for that matter. They're all pretty nonsensecal
