That choice for #1 was obvious.

Wow, I must not watch a lot of TV because I've only heard of 3 people on that list; Rob Lowe, Keith Carradine, and John C. McGinley (whose best movie role was Bob on Office Space).

2009-06-13 11:29:45 AM
Can't say I can argue with McGinley, but most of the others I don't even know.

Not a bad list, but putting Matthew Fox ahead of Michael Hogan is criminal.

Other than the annoying whiner who played Saul in BSG, that list is pretty good.

I clicked the link thinking "I'll probably be pissed at another stupid list because he won't have John C. McGinley on it..."

Once in awhile I'm surprised.

Braff is not unappreciated. He went from waiting tables to earning huge amounts of money in just 7 years, picking up a couple of major award nominations along the way. McGinley is far more unappreciated than Braff, and a much better actor.

Agree with McGinley at #1 but this guy lost much credibility when he couldn't tell Jessica Walter from Julie Walters.

/He's made a huge mistake.

Newsradio is one of the top 5 ensemble sitcoms ever. Over a decade later, it still holds up well (not including the post-Hartman stuff).

Also agree with the author of the article saying that McGinley should have several Emmys sitting on his shelf. A lot of people are soft of over the show now, but there were some great characters and his stands out as head and shoulders above the rest.

True. Hulu.com has several episodes online for free. I enjoy re-watching one every so often.

Good call on Keith Carradine. I was pleasantly surprised that I really enjoyed every scene he showed up in on Dexter.

I'd drop Lowe for John Glover, but Glover's been underappreciated for 30 years.

/in before Michael Hogan's son-in-law?

Who the hell is John Glover?

*checks*

Smallville? I wasn't aware that show had any good actors.

What about that Bender guy? I'm hearing great things about him!

My hope after Scrubs concluded was that McGinley would have the time and the acclaim to be in movies and such now. Get McGinley and Judd Apatow together, stat!

Also, more stuff with Sarah Chalke would be excellent.

Jenna Fischer has been criminally underappreciated since the beginning of "The Office." Her losing to Jamie Pressly at the Emmys is preposterous.

...so unappreciated that we decided not to even post pictures of them on the list.

Umm. No. She along with Carrel are the stars of that show. She's been in tons of magazines. People love her. She's not underappreciate. Just her being nominated shosw you that.

Charlie is awesome as a character - I'm not sure he has that much heavy lifting to do, acting-wise.

2009-06-13 02:50:03 PM
One of the few lists I even remotely agree with. I think a couple of actors from Smallville could have made the list...I'm partial though...

2009-06-13 02:52:08 PM
is Matthew Fox really unappreciated? I mean...he doesn't have the household name of Tom Hanks or other film superstars, but a TON of people watched him in the 90s, a TON of people (of all ages) are watching him now. he's on one of the most obsessed over shows in recent memory, has toys, in a video game, books, talk shows, etc etc.

either way though, as much as I don't care about his character now or Fox in general, he should've gotten some awards for his performances in season 3. stunning, and I don't even like the guy.

also, jackface

Speaking of Smallville. She is far from a good actress but she does have some other good qualities.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair or farking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

If were going back further than a decade, just about any actor on Sports Night would work.

I don't think you have to be dramatic to be a good actor, playing an illiterate glue-huffer when you are anything but is still acting. If the ultimate goal is to entertain, then I say he fits the bill.

Ooh. Great call. I thought Carcetti was a good call, but I would probably replace him with Royo.

Benson was great on that show.

2009-06-13 03:09:17 PM
Jessica Walter was also Fran Sinclair from Dinosaurs, back in the 90s. I think she's great on Arrested Development, but I don't know that she needs to be any bigger than she is because she'd be typecast. (see Betty White)

And Rob Lowe would maybe get more credit if more people didn't know him for the drugs, alcohol and child porn. If we're picking an under-rated West Wing character, my money is on Toby, not Sam.

2009-06-13 03:09:50 PM
No Christopher Meloni? It's not his fault Neal Baer has turned the show into Law and Order: Olivia Benson Saves the World. Or that the writing sucks mightly because of it.

He was underappredicated on Oz, too.

Oh yeah, this a thousand times over. The S4 kids rocked too. There's nothing about The Wire that wasn't incredible. Hell, throw Ziggy on the list too.

But going back to #1; McGinley when he has to deal with the rabies epidemic. Sheesh, I SOBBED at that. Cox is such a jerk at times, but he cares so, much.

You know, I've finally just started watching that show, and the one thought that keeps floating through my mind is that Charlie Day is brilliant.

Hm. I'm trying to think of any actor on that show I didn't like. I think my least favorite may be McNulty, but that's just his character. That show seriously had 0 bad acting in it.

2009-06-13 03:18:53 PM
for the record I think Wood Harris really goes underappreciated on that show too. Stringer and McNulty got all the press. Or what there was of it.

I didn't know that and stand corrected; I'd just like to see him in something else, then. I'm not a fan, never watched it in first run, but my husband has them on DVD. He and Allison Janney are the only people on the show I can stand to watch.

I love MCginley on Scrubs, but doesn't it seem like he always plays the same character? Kind of a loud, sarcastic, jackass type.

2009-06-13 03:21:35 PM

sickb0y: Wood Harris

I have to agree; Idris Elba was so freaaking good that Wood Harris was unfortunately overshadowed. But wow, he was good. What is it, end of second or first season when he gets s light sentence and just smirks at the McNulty crew? Fantastic performance right there.

2009-06-13 03:26:15 PM
I agree that John Mcginley really brings Dr Cox to life. To me it's sort of the same thing as Johnny Depp as Capt Jack Sparrow. The character uniquely belongs to that actor but for whatever reason the Academy (or whatever the voting body is for television awards) doesn't like to recognize it.
