Confabulat: I will happily make fun of any Farkers teenage daughter's sexual habits when they are standing right next to me, IF THEIR DAUGHTER ALREADY GOT KNOCKED UP BY A DUMB REDNECK TEENAGE BOY.

What are you gonna say back, Daddy?

"Some day I hope to meet you. When that happens you'll need a new nose, a lot of beefsteak for black eyes, and perhaps a supporter below." ~ President Harry S Truman, to the jerk who insulted his daughter.

Alien Robot: Chuck Wagon: Why does everyone assume the joke was about her 14 year old daughter and not the 18 year old daughter?

The "joke":

"One awkward moment though during the game, maybe you heard about it, maybe you saw it on one of the highlight reels. One awkward moment for Sarah Palin at the Yankee game, during the seventh inning, her daughter was knocked-up by Alex Rodriguez."

14-year-old Willow was at the game with Palin. A-Rod was obviously at the game. 18-year-old Bristol was at home in Alaska, 4,000 miles away. It's a complete fabrication to claim the joke was somehow about Bristol.

I agree that the joke was tasteless, and unfunny to boot. It was also very possible that Letterman thought the anonymous, unnamed daughter was Bristol, the daughter that actually is famous. But yeah, it was a tasteless comment that was really more directed at Sarah.

Wait, we're not supposed to be mad at news pundits for inciting violent acts against fellow Americans due to free speech, but we're supposed to get mad at David Letterman for free speech cause it hurt poor Sarah Palin's feelings?

The hypocrisy is a riot.

So why don't you get to work on having legal charges pressed against Letterman instead of all this impotent foot stamping ? You've got hard evidence, so go with it.

CanisNoir: Gamer Grrrl: Most people don't see it as the government teaching kids, they see it as educated people teaching kids.

This is where they are wrong. What teachers can and cannot teach in a public school system is very much the product of Bureaucracy and less of an individualistic teachers educated desires.

Think about it. My parents used to tell me that Santa Clause was real. I found out he wasn't They used to tell me that drugs are bad, mmkay. I found out that no, not all of them are. If they're going to lie to me about these kinds of important things (when you're 8, the Santa is SO important!), what else are they lying to me about? (Although to be fair, my school also taught me that drugs are bad, mkay.)

Yea but they also taught you that fire burns and talking to strangers was a bad idea too right? I'm just saying that I think most of this whole controversy stems from the fact that people are seeing more and more of their parental obligations being discarded. Then again I'm a big one for using a wide board with holes in it to discipline in a Public School so meh.

I'm actually closer than you'd think on the whole drug issue, in fact, it's almost game time. Gotta twist a couple and break out the chilled Stein for game Seven.

glassa: Hender: CanisNoir: You mock Bristol because she doesn't agree with your view not because she's a hypocrite.

No, I mocked (past tense) her because she came from an abstinence-only household with a mother who supported abstinence-only education programs across the state she governed.

...and she got pregnant out of wedlock. That's why I mocked her.

So, you would mock a lung cancer victim who tells kids not to start smoking so they wouldn't suffer the same fate?

How nice of you!

No, because that person learned their lesson, that what they were doing/promoting before, i.e. smoking, was a bad choice and got them where they were. Such as if Bristol realized that abstinence-only didn't work and came out against it.

The correct analogy is if the person was lung cancer was still promoting smoking as a way to live a long healthy life.

Yeah, everyone knows the names of all Sarah Palin's kids - not.

A-Rod and Elliot Spitzer have the same fame and name recognition as Willow Palin to New Yorkers, right?

Yeah that's the ticket. Hang on - Bristol Palin's ONLY fame is being an unwed knocked up 17 year old daughter of the Governor of Alaska who was on the losing ticket for President in 2008.

2009-06-12 07:21:45 PM
I think that Republicans all know every fascinating detail about their heroes, the Palin family (including their names, their ages, their favorite colors, their favorite Bible passages, etc.), and are surprised to find out that normal human beings are a bit more clueless about them, other then Mom is an idiot nutcase, Dad is a scary controlling Bible jerk, and the daughter got knocked up by some redneck fisherman when she was like 16.

Ok dammit, lets get a few things straight....Bristol and Sarah are being mocked because:
*Sarah promotes abstinence only education
*Bristol is an obvious refutation that abstinence only doesn't work.
*Bristol comes out stating that abstinence only education doesn't work and isn't realisted
*GOP and Sarah are horrified at what Bristol is saying
*GOP has sit down with Sarah
*Sarah has little sit down with Bristol
*Suddenly Bristol says abstinence only is the best thing for kids.

i.e. Bristol caved or at best will say whatever her stupid mom tells her.

Interesting that Dave would choose to attack a woman and her teenage daughter. Is this the first time he tried attacking a mother/daughter like that? Some people cannot take jokes. Somehow, I doubt Palin caught this show, but instead, a GOP strategist convinced her to take this prime opportunity to lash out at Letterman, a long time foe of the GOP, and relentlessly attack him until there was nothing left of him or his partisan show.

We would all be better off without these purely partisan comedians who slam half the population. Our economy will not recover while this underground partisan civil war of words continues. Al Gore started it in 2000 with his whining about dimpled chads. Thanks for the war Gore.

Yeah we'll see how much luck they have with that.

And Dave's not overly partisan, but I know that Republicans think that all entertainment that isn't expressly far-right or openly Christian is tainted by liberalism and Hollywood atheism.

Isn't that what the Republican cult members believe? They're more persecuted than Scientology.

FYI: in re the Elliot Spitzer - Palin joke. The Spitzer insinuates not rapine of a young maiden, but payment for her flower from election funds. No one ever accused Elliot Spitzer of being a rapist, but for soliciting prostitution.

Now maybe Todd and Sarah could be accused of pimping their daughters for political gain, but that would be inflammatory leftist drivel.

Who cares? It was a stupid, stupid joke that warrants a huge apology. No class, no humor.

Rush's comment about Clinton's daughter- no class, no humor. I don't like Rush either. If you think Letterman belongs in the same category, then Letterman is 1.) far less funny than he used to be 2.) far less classy than he used to be 3.) not worth waching any more. I'd sooner watch Colbert, who is also realatively tasteless and unclassy.

Since the original plan that women would suddenly vote GOP in droves just for her failed miserably, I guess it's her attempt to show them she's the next Hillary by taking bullets for them.

It's also cute how subby is such a liar he/she needed to disguise a Freep link...

Joking about Palin's daughter ( or Obama's daughter, politics is irrelevant to the issue ) getting raped at Yankee Stadium is as vile as it gets. It's inconceivable that Letterman still has his own television program going out over the public airwaves after that.

If she wants the media to leave them alone, then she should leave them at home and leave them out of her political agenda.

I agree. And its still responsible to do the right thing and just stick to making fun of Caribou Barbie.

The "girl" is an adult. Making her own decision to go on TV and talk about birth control with her newborn mistake. fark her.

It has nothing to do with her mom.

Such a nice person you are.

Maybe she wants to prevent what happened to her from happening to other young girls? HOW DARE SHE!!!
She must be trashed!

Mock Sarah Palin all you want. Why do her teenage girls have to be bullied? One is in the public eye trying to tell other young girls not to do what she did. Why is that a bad thing?

This is not about left vs. right. It's about right vs. wrong. To bully a teenage girl when she's trying to do a good thing is not only wrong, it's low and dispicable. And what does it say about an adult if he/she has to pick on an 18 y/o girl to make him/herself feel better?
You get your jollies bashing old women as they cross the street too?

So he was saying the little girl was doing it voluntarily? I don't know where "gang" comes into it though. I thought I heard that Letterman imagined a specific ballplayer that was engaging in the act with the child.
