Meet Monster Truck. We estimate the kitten's age to be less than two months. Monster came to live with us by riding 13 miles between the battery and wall of my fiance's truck. We figured the mom was feral and it'd wandered away.

We couldn't get it out from around the engine last Thursday night and Friday it was still there. We had to play hardball and got out the water hose to force it out of there.

Monster spent that night and the next day separated from the other cats. MT shied away from us most of the time, but if I meowed it would come out to eat. We eventually let it out and after much hissing and huffing and puffing from the rest of the crew, Monster Truck is now being accepted by the other cats and will even curl up next to us and take a nap.

Andric: Felis catus is your taxonomic nomenclature,
An endothermic quadruped, carnivorous by nature;
Your visual, olfactory, and auditory senses
ontribute to your hunting skills and natural defenses.

I find myself intrigued by your subvocal oscillations,
A singular development of cat communications
That obviates your basic hedonistic predilection
For a rhythmic stroking of your fur to demonstrate affection.

A tail is quite essential for your acrobatic talents;
You would not be so agile if you lacked its counterbalance.
And when not being utilized to aid in locomotion,
It often serves to illustrate the state of your emotion.

O Spot, the complex levels of behavior you display
Connote a fairly well-developed cognitive array.
And though you are not sentient, Spot, and do not comprehend,
I nonetheless consider you a true and valued friend.

Tigers are mean
Tigers are fierce
Tigers have teeth
And claws that pierce.

Tigers are great
They can't be beat
If I was a tiger
That would be neat!

Tigers are nimble
And light on their toes
My REspect for tigers
Continually grows.

Tigers are perfect
The e-pit-o-me
Of good looks and grace
And quiet dignity!

Tigers are great
They're the toast of town
Life's always better
When a tiger's around!

Some Caturday blanks of my newly adopted little man. His name is Onyx and he is about 9 months old. When I decided to adopt I was thinking about at least a 1 year old and was looking for a black cat because I was told they have a harder time finding them homes... but it was love a first sight with this guy.

On Tuesday I went to Best Buy to look around because I am opening my own computer store in San Francisco. BB wasn't open yet and I decided to go look at the kittehs at the SPCA a block away. They weren't open, either. I played with the kittehs through the windows and one of them caught my attention.

DEXTER

The kid is vicious! He can jump 7 feet vertically! But he purrs like my late Petunia.

He was transferred from animal control to the SPCA, which means that he was abandoned.

I had my choice of many kittehs, but Dexter was the Pick of the Litter.

Let's Celebrate His First Caturday!!!

I'm a long time fark lurker - 5 years. I've never felt the need to get my own account, I just enjoyed reading comments of everyone else and I adore Caturday.

Yesterday changed that all. My kitty Max was hit by a car Thursday night and had to be put down. Max was about 1. He use to belong to the neighbors but he loved us better and just kinda resettled into our yard and house at a couple of months old with his brother Jitters. We kept trying to return them to their original owners but they finally just gave up and got a dog instead. The kittens just preferred us.

These two are the sweetest kitties. Full of love and life. And they didn't get along with our old man Hannibal, so lived both in and outside the house. Which is why he was outside to be hit by a car.

We took turns holding him, he didn't seem in pain. He would rub his head against whoever was holding him. I had to wait for a sitter for my kids, I couldn't take them with me, it was hard enough for them not to have to be there. And it was hard. While we only had Max such a short time he was so important to us all. And my son who he was especially close to, was crushed. I think it was because he was so young that it is so hard.

I am putting in the only two photos that I can find of Max to be lol'ed. It would make me and the kids very happy to see him on caturday.

I hope I'm getting this right and I didn't make the imagines too small or too large.

Same thing happened to us last August. Little 3 y/o Callie got hit, and though not appearing to be in pain had too many internal injuries. Very, very hard thing to do and go through. I'm sorry for you and your family and sorry that your first Caturday post has to be a sad one. Great pix, though.

Abstruse: eddyatwork: Try rodent control. Before we had fridges and ziploc bags little mousies would help themselves to your pantry. Cats like to help themselves to your mousies and only require a small amount of food to do so plus there is the added bonus of purring while sitting on your lap. I can't believe scientists are being paid to be so damn stupid to overlook the obvious.

There's also research that cats were self-domesticating. Basically, the cats noticed that all these small rodents they were hunting all over the woods kept getting attracted to these large stores of food the humans had. So instead of running all over the place trying to catch dinner, they just stuck around near the humans to hunt all the mice/rats/squirrels/birds/etc eating the humans' grain. The humans noticed this and started rewarding the cats with more food.

This also explains to me why cats act superior. In a pack of wolves, the alpha hunts and brings food to the pack. By providing food, he establishes he is alpha. In a pride of lions, the "alpha" sits around while the lesser members go hunting and bring food to him. So when we feed dogs, we're establishing our alpha status to the dog. When we feed cats, we're establishing our subservience to them. That's also why cats bring you "presents" of dead animals and bugs. They're bringing a tribute to the alpha.

So next time your kitty brings you a half-dead bird, praise him/her. It means the cat actually thinks you're more important than he/she is.

like the time my kitty brought me a crow in his teeth. yes, a whole freaking still moving crow.

i was proud. that bird was huge.

That is truly amazing. I've never owned a cat, sadly I'm allergic because I love them. Do any of you guys have cats that do stuff like this?

have you thought about getting a cat like a siberian? they are "naturally hypoallergenic" cats! my husband is SO allergic to most cats but not to the siberians!
