They should look into whoever they hire to 'clean up' the Holiday Inn and see if the company is the same or related to the company that did the clean-up/repair work at the previous incident.

Could be a prank designed to create work for a company during these tough times.

Mr. Potatoass: Dundidit: So if you told someone on a bridge to jump, and they did, you would laugh and think it's funny?

Yes. If it was a clown.

Exactly

Unbelievable.

Gee, an Arkansan named for a shiatty color, Rusty Brown. Probably born in a crapper.

note from myself and someone who's been advised to Officer Bolling:

There's no such company as Grennel, but there is a SimplexGrinnell that makes sprinkler systems. You might have been thinking about fishing.

That depends, would the person that jumped be wearing a shirt that says "Shait happens"?

FlyingJ: Approves.

06/06/2009 NEVAH FORGET!!!

Right on! A friend of mine's son was been called Keith Moon many times... it took his Dad awhile to catch on. (neither of them are that bright.)

Dundidit: cyks: By your logic, if the caller told them to jump off a bridge, they should be tried for murder.

So if you told someone on a bridge to jump, and they did, you would laugh and think it's funny?

To be honest, not right away. After a few beers, yes.

My guilt is compartmentalized down to Easter day when I go to church.

"Ma'am, did you live under power lines as a child?"

-

"No, why?"

-

"Sometimes people become magnetized to certain types of glass when they grow up under power line."

-

"Oh, I understand. Thanks for checking!"

-

"That's my job, Ma'am. Now this next step is important, because it will test the functionality of the frontal lobe section of the system. I need you to go smash the windows in the lobby with a chair, all right?"

-

"Smash the windows, got it!"

Dundidit: Things like this are not funny. Someone could have been seriously hurt by these actions and the kid making the phone call should be arrested and charged for all the damages as well as putting all those hotel guests lives in danger.

Actually, since no one was seriously hurt, it IS funny. Otherwise, it would have been tragic AND funny.

2009-06-10 12:18:39 AM
You have to avoid turning on the sprinklers.

QUICK, SMASH THE WINDOWS!!

What?

Yeah, this.

I'd like to think that if I tell someone to do something so completely idiotic that any normal person would tell me to go pound sand, that I wouldn't be on the hook for damages if they actually did it.

Prankster: Come forward and claim your free 10 internets as well as a beer of your choice.

2009-06-10 12:20:54 AM
Lets face it, a lot of people in this world are stupid.

These 2 are on an entirely different level than most of the others however.

The caller on the phone, the desk clerk and the guest that helped destroy the place are all liable for damages as far as I'm concerned.

I would like to point out that none of these people are likely to have any money.

Jonathan Hohensee: No matter how enlightened of a society you have, there will always be stupid people around. ALWAYS.

This isn't a case of stupid. This is a case of someone who, for her entire life, was conditioned to always obey authority. Of course, when a pranker poses as "authority" she blindly listens and obeys.

You wouldn't believe the ridiculous things you can get people (strangers) to do by simply behaving and speaking as if you were an authority figure.

This is still trumped by the McDonald's employees who were strip searched (new window) because of a call from a "police officer".

I thought it was pretty stupid until I got to the part where the guy said he was a victim of domestic terrorism, and then I laughed for about five solid minutes.

2009-06-10 01:11:12 AM
Not to be confused with the prank caller that convinced a hotel manager of Comfort Suites in Johnson City, TN to pull the alarm and press a button for the sprinkler system. The caller had all the right info especially the specific locations in that hotel. She's back to work now. They're still trying to figure out who pulled the prank.

Oh, and unless I missed something, the only reason why I know about it is because I got free cake and a funny amateur show of two slightly tipsy females singing "A Whole New World" from Aladdin.

alhazred: I find it amusing the way I find a lot of clueless stupidity amusing, especially since nobody was hurt. But I agree with you that the person that made the call should be held accountable. However, I would also say that the employee and the guest should also be held accountable. Stupidity and lack of basic critical thinking skills are not an excuse for what they did. In fact, I would venture to say that the two of them are MORE responsible for what happened than the caller.

Exactly at what point does this NOT become the sole responsibility of the morons who enacted the damage at the "idle requests" of a complete stranger (which sounds like a fishy excuse for unleashing mayhem with a "the anonymous caller Devil made me do it" line)?

Are these people not required to behave like responsible adults or atone for the damage they caused? If they are going to enact the whims of any random stranger upon property while lacking the slightest inkling of moral consciousness, then perhaps both of these adults should be institutionalized in the the nearest insane asylum for the protection of themselves and the people in their community.

mofomisfit: I thought it was pretty stupid until I got to the part where the guy said he was a victim of domestic terrorism, and then I laughed for about five solid minutes.

I must have completely lost my sense of humor tonight, but I actually don't find anything funny about it.

At the very least, you are forced to get up and get out in the middle of the night.

Well, that is unless you got so sloppy drunk that you slept through remained unconscious throughout the alarm.

It's like you just discovered that hotel clerks don't have to be geniuses - hey maybe you can get a job as one someday.

Oh, but there's that other bothersome point - "terrorism". Since when does being an douchebag constitute terrorism?

BTW, there are a lot of victims of torture who wish they had been waterboarded instead.

b-ham: FTA: Rusty Brown, the Holiday Inn guest who helped Bergmann follow the prankster's instructions, told TSG he was "an innocent bystander and got involved in domestic terrorism."

Domestic terrorism? Really?

Since he described himself as an incident commander, he probably works for a law enforcement or other Weeners agency that thrives on federal funds handed down to fight domestic terrorism in such hot spots as Bugtussle, Arkansas or Greasy Bottom, Missouri.

FTFA: "...$50,000 in damages to the hotel's windows, carpets and electrical system. Hotel guests, who were evacuated during the incident, were allowed back into the Holiday Inn..."

Let me get this straight. The carpets everywhere are swamps, the beds are all soaked, and the place has damaged circuitry everywhere...SO THEY LET EVERYONE BACK IN???

Horrendous, really.

FTA: Nix, remorseful for his part in the crime, pleaded guilty to sexual abuse and other crimes in February 2006 in exchange for his testimony against Stewart. Because he was the principal perpetrator of the beatings and engaged in the sex act, he received a 5 year sentence, with a minimum of 2 years in prison.

The guy got two years' minimum for being gullible.

Pretty costly beej, I'd say. Speaking as someone who's never had one and so perhaps underestimates their value.
