This movie was AWESOME until the last five minutes. What the hell were they thinking with that bullshiat?

2009-06-08 09:06:09 AM
At least salvation was better than the last one. Not as good as the original or 2, though.

It does seem like there aren't many terminators wandering the streets like I would expect, though.

SPOILER ALERT

The movie blew. However, there is apparently an alternate ending that Christian Bale was a big fan of. It was described to me and I have to say, if they used THAT ending it would have changed everything. The whole movie would have made more sense and, IMHO, it would have gone from "crap" to "holy shiat"

My sentiments exactly. Hope they have REALLY good immunosuppressive drugs in the Post-Apocalypse.

What ending was that? The one where the resistance finds out that all the humans Skynet's been collecting are actually relaxing on a seaside resort? That Skynet's been trying to save humanity all along, not exterminate it? Seriously, that was the original script.

SPOILER ALERT

"Connor dies, okay? He's dead," McG continues. "And Marcus offers his physical body, so Connor's exterior is put on top of his machine body. It looks like Connor, but it's really Marcus underneath. And all of the characters we care about (Kyle Reese, Connor's wife Kate, etc.) are brought into the room to see him and they think it's Connor. And Connor gets up and then there's a small flicker of red in his eyes and he shoots Kate, he shoots Kyle, he shoots everybody in the room. Fade to black. End of movie. Skynet wins. F--- you!"

IMO this is a MUCH better ending.

Wouldn't that have conflicted with everything else? Or is it like a Star Trek thing where they use time travel as an excuse to ignore established canon and do whatever the hell they want?

that was a terrible ending and I seriously question people taste in films when they actually biatch about Christian Bale's role in the script rewrites.

The alternate ending McG talks about probably would've been good less the very final part.

Holy f*cking hell that would have been AWESOME.

Although I really want sequels simply for the CGI pr0n.

2009-06-08 10:41:11 AM
The cool thing about that ending is that it reminds me of The Mist. The ending for that left everyone in the theater with a total "Holy f*cking shiat" look on their face. I loved it.

I understand where they're coming from though, the terminator series has the potential to generate hundreds of millions of dollars with sequels and doing that ending would put a big dent in it. And I want to see more Terminator stories set in the future.

But good god, I hope they shot that ending and put it on the DVD.

good. theyve finally taken the 24 approach.

SPOILER ALERT FOR THE MIST

I thought the ending to The Mist was hilarious. He kills everyone including his son and a minute later the cavalry shows up. Doh! That's just slapstick right there.

Terminator movies never really stuck to any real "rules" regarding time travel. It's always been "whatever the hell they want". But at least with that ending I don't think skynet is retarded for letting kyle reese live.

I think the terminator movies handled time travel better than most movies. Certain main plot points have to happen though. Kyle Reese has to be sent back in time and knock up Sarah, the humans eventually win and an Arnold model has to terminate John Connor. None of those things could happen with that ending.

I really liked that ending for The Mist
but then if you think about it... that crazy lady was right
she said kill the kid and the mist would go away cause god told her it would and as soon as he kills his kid whoosh the mist goes away and everybody is saved (and that makes her a martyr kinda, which is BS)
I think the military would kill everyone and leave no witnesses

There's a chance this won't be made.
World wide gross is still 70 mil shy of breaking even.
Last weekend brought in $8,175,000, so it's winding down fast.

I'm still going to miss T:TSCC though
That was a good show

T3 isn't that bad, really. The bad robot is hotter, the kid playing John Connor is far less annoying, and there is no Linda Hamilton, who it turns out is terrible in T2.

Dear Machines

Next time you do the time travel thing;

1. send more than one robot
2. go back further so you have more time to accomplish your goal
3. choose more than one potential target.

Skynet: Daleks, be warned; you have declared war upon Skynet.
Dalek: This is not war. This is pest control!
Cyberman: We have five million Terminators. How many are you?
Dalek: Four.
Skynet: You would destroy Skynet with four Daleks?
Dalek: We would destroy Skynet with one Dalek! You are superior in only one respect.
Skynet: What is that?
Dalek Sec: You are better at dying!

I thought that was going to be the stupid rumored ending where they rip the Matrix off. It wasn't, and I have to say... I agree. THAT ending you just linked would have been farking fantastic.

Overall, I still enjoyed T4... Just, I only enjoyed it for the ruthless robot killing machines and blowing shiat up - and the plot was completely throwaway for me. I did think that the machines needed to be a little deadlier to be more believable to me, though. I do have to say that the 1/2 terminator which chases after Connor was pretty damn scary/cool. (and that one continuous shot of Connor in the helicopter was farking BRILLIANT.

i agree. it's just that you already know how the story goes. all these sequels provide are the details. big, fun, explosive-y details.

Um, but they did happen. What are you talking about?

I just couldn't figure out how the Resistance in Salvation were able to run a large military base with a working airfield without Skynet noticing them and attacking them with overwhelming numbers of Terminators and H-Ks. I always thought the Resistance survived by taking to the tunnels, keeping out of sight, and otherwise operating like insurgents. You would have at least thought that Skynet would have noticed the huge pyrotechnics when they were trying to kill Marcus.

I'm just going to have to pretend that this a just weird alternate timeline, and that T:SCC is the real sequel to the first two movies.

A movie doesn't break even by matching it's production cost. First, the theatre doesn't get 1/1 on $ from theater receipts, second, the advertsing budget is anywhere from $30-$50 million. A general rule of thumb is that a film has to make twice it's production cost in order to break even.

The movie was terrible, anyway.

Mad_Radhu: You would have at least thought that Skynet would have noticed the huge pyrotechnics when they were trying to kill Marcus.

I'll do you one better.

You'd think the ridiculous piranha water robot things would have somehow radioed back to Skynet that "Hey, right over here we just saw Connor and that new Terminator you're working on - maybe you should check it out?"

Not to mention the fact that Skynet has the power to put those things in every river in the world yet the humans still have clean water and electricity.

The whole movie was shiat. Skynet and the Machines were never a legitimate threat except for the beginning when Reese was being pinned down by a single T-600. After that they were farking Bond villains.

i thought it was a completely satisfying movie. McG completely created a seemless, believable future world, and blew a bunch of stuff up....

They say this movie had no soul... i'll argue that it had the most soul of all the movies.
