And then it's off to the glue factory instead of the nursing home.

Or the slaughterhouse for pet food, as actually happened to Ferdinand, the 1986 Kentucky Derby winner who crapped out as a sire in Japan.

ciocia:

You want inbred? Check out pedigree query. A champion thoroughbred's bloodlines breed closer together than a guest on the Jerry Springer Show.

Yeah, I've had purebred Persian cats before and noticed that purebred animals tend to get sick a lot and are generally dumber than a bag of hammers.

Oh. Horse racing.

Yeah, that's exciting.

RicosRoughnecks: It would be kind of cool if humans bred the way we breed horses. Although we'd probably all get very inbred since women would all take Bill Gates or Brad Pitt while the men took all the swimsuit models.

Heh, just imagine winning gold medals like Phelps and then retiring to a stud farm. Although very ugly women with enough money might then be able to buy your services...

Except that it takes at least 17yr or so to know if the kid you turned out is any good.

Guys would be praying for some serious MILF b/c the average age of the woman would be anywhere between 40-55.

Women would be silently cursing their kids for forcing them to go through additional pregnancies that close to menopause.

On the other hand...the whole "welfare mom" thing would disappear pretty quick.

Hopefully there will be a rematch in the Travers, and Rachel Alexandra runs in the Alabama. That would pretty much make my summer.

Forget that. Princess Rachel needs to stop ducking the racing queen, Zenyatta

The real winner was Mining My Own, Mine That Bird's dam. Mine That Bird was her first foal. She's set for life.

True, but mares can't produce nearly as many offspring as the studs can. Although if the owner of the mare gets the offspring, it might work out to be more money for them, I'm not sure. Also, Birdstone was the horse that ruined Smarty Jones's Triple crown bid.

/Trivia!

And the horse that finished 2nd? Stone Legacy? Also sired by Birdstone. It's like they are a zombie army.

Chariset: Too bad it was Summer Bird and not Mine that Bird.

They have the same dad but if you call them half-brothers you'll be corrected. Horses are considered half-siblings only if they're out of the same mare

I had to do a double take when I clicked your profile. Those look just like my cats!!

I am glad that the horse from the land of suck didn't win...

But it is odd that you say that. I have a mare that is out of the same sire as the horse that took 3rd in the 98 belmont, and the Jockey Club shows her as being a half sister. She raced fairly successfully, did better in distance races (which the belmont is the longest of the triple crown), and then sold at 4 as a riding horse. I still haven't transferred her into my name, so she is still showing as owned by Team Valor. But she is a huge flea bit grey, and we had been mulling whether to breed her to a race line. Then again, I am thinking I would like a warmblood out of her, too. Anyhow, she is bred quite similar to Ruffian, except the sides are reversed. What Ruffian had on the top side, she has on the bottom, and what Ruffian had on the bottom side, she has on the top side.

Out of a sire? I didn't know that was possible
