Here's the race
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udUIxsuWE3w

He ran a good race. Let him out a little sooner (while they were still coming along the turn) than I generally would have. Summer Bird was riding 5th so he had less farther to go than MTB, which was probably a factor.

Dunkirk had a good run! Lead almost the entire way with pretty decent fractions.

/good race!

Too bad it was Summer Bird and not Mine that Bird.

They have the same dad but if you call them half-brothers you'll be corrected. Horses are considered half-siblings only if they're out of the same mare

I thought it was interesting. Is it because all your colts might come from one stud?

Wow. Whats amazing is that Borel and Desormeaux both raced my grandfather's horses. They started on little quarterhorse straight tracks in Louisiana.

And Birdstone, their sire, only went to stud in 2005. His first crop of foals included a Kentucky Derby and a Belmont winner. He should have a full date book for quite awhile.

My kids are pretty smart, but I can't see that getting me any farking action.

Admittedly my wife would object anyway.

Hardly seems fair, does it? When a thoroughbred's kids do well, he gets a bunch of action. OTOH, if humans worked on the same principle, your life would be crappy if the kids were stupid or bad athletes. A guy would probably come over your house and tell you to start sleeping on the couch. :D

The real winner was Mining My Own, Mine That Bird's dam. Mine That Bird was her first foal. She's set for life.

It would be kind of cool if humans bred the way we breed horses. Although we'd probably all get very inbred since women would all take Bill Gates or Brad Pitt while the men took all the swimsuit models.

Heh, just imagine winning gold medals like Phelps and then retiring to a stud farm. Although very ugly women with enough money might then be able to buy your services...

You want inbred? Check out pedigree query. A champion thoroughbred's bloodlines breed closer together than a guest on the Jerry Springer Show.
