Cupcakes are all right, but regular cake is almost always better. Really, I even prefer a muffin because cupcakes are usually too sweet.

If the recipe calls for you to beat the sugar and fat together, then add the eggs, then add any other ingredients, then slowly incorporate the flour... it is a cupcake!

If the recipe calls for you to combine all of the dry ingredients together, and combine all of the wet ingredients together, then pour the wet ingredients over the dry ingredients and mix to combine... it is a muffin!
