Say what you want about God, he might have let the holocaust happen, he might still let kids die from starvation and cancer every single day for thousands of years..... but every now and then when a person horribly abuses a dog:

God steps in and only lets the dog suffer severe mistreatment and terror of being thrown into water while weighted down with a brick....BUT THEN GOD STEPS IN AND SENDS SOME IDIOT TO FIND THE DOG AFTER THE DOG HAS GOTTEN OUT OF THE WATER ON ITS OWN.

Some people are assholes. People who drown dogs and cats are rather high on the asshole list.

From the story they mention the dog looked to recently having given birth to puppies and they wondered where they were. Unfortunately, it's pretty farking obvious where the puppies ended up.

I think whomever did this falls under the "needs killing" category.

I live out in the country. We see this kind of thing frequently. People who thought having a dog was a cute thing and when the dog gets knocked up because they're such cheap bastards they don't get it fixed they need to find a way to get rid of the pups and/or the dog. They nobly choose abandoning in a ditch somewhere, throwing them off a bridge, putting them in a sack and dropping them into a pond - you know, something responsible and humane.

We generally have a couple dogs on the farm and, in 30 years, have yet to buy one or go to the shelter to get one.

A Great Dane walked out of the woods and into my parents yard about 2 years ago. She was starving, sick and dying. My parents nursed her back to health, de-wormed her, and took her to the vet to have her spayed once she was healthy. The vet said she couldn't be spayed because she was about to have puppies. She had the puppies, and we immediately knew why she was dumped in the country.

She gave birth to a mixed litter. Some were Great Dane/German Shephard mixes, others were Dane/Lab mixes. The puppy mill owners ditched her after they realized she was pregnant with unmarketable puppies:

Well my parents kept her, and found homes for all the puppies. Two of them are now living with my wife and me.

and Evie (one of the black puppies in the picture above.)

I've never had a better dog (save one) in my life.

Whoever did this to this dog needs to have his nuts removed with a brick, because he obviously lacks the figurative balls to act in anything resembling a responsible fashion.

Over the years we've had too many dogs for me to count them all. Old dogs abandoned, pups abandoned in ditches (in freezing weather), dogs with multiple abrasions that appear to have been thrown from a moving vehicle - all manner of vile treatment heaped upon the dogs. And they've all been great dogs.

One point that needs to be made: our vet has done yeoman service for very little fee on those animals. I won't mention his name without his permission but he has done great things for very modest fees or just expenses for these animals. My regular livestock and the maintenance kind of stuff on pets he charges normally and he certainly deserves to make a living and maintain his practice but for the abandoned and abused, he does a lot of work for not much money. He doesn't feel we should be penalized for doing a good deed. I'd bet there are a lot of vets out there who are like that and our hats should be off to them. I don't imagine it hurts that I throw an awful lot of business his way every year but he has gone above and beyond in helping rescue those abused animals.

Mr. Right: he has gone above and beyond in helping rescue those abused animals.

The guy we went to did it for free. Even the spayings and neuterings on all 8 puppies. and the worming of the mother. X-rays and all were free.

then he died a slow painful death to cancer. WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW, LADY!?

FTA>:"The Creator puts you in the right place at the right time for a reason. I know I was meant to be there, but I am still upset."

I hate religion. Not because I hate religion in and of
itself. In fact I admire and truly respect individuals
who live good lives and sacrifice for the greater good
thru a belief in a God. It's just that
organized religion is always a victim of its own success.

Any organization that creates wealth, whether it be by
tithing, profits (capitalism), or dues (guilds/unions)
is always corrupted by people who exploit the wealth
for their own personal gain. Religion in particular
seem to be susceptible to this more than most
organizations. It just sucks in and destroys
so many for the gain of an elite few.

Fortunately, on a day to day level, the true goodness
of most humans rules our day to day life.

But please, before you rip me a new one based on the above,
please explain to me why a good, kind soul like Donna labors
in obscurity for her life while Dick Cheney gets to lead a country?

How is it that the worst of the worst are the people
that the public ends up listening to and trusting?

2009-06-04 07:50:53 AM

I'll take a stab at this but it requires painting with an overly-broad brush. Two points:

(a) I would say because our current political system is so hopelessly corrupt that the only way one reaches a high level of power is by being corrupt also. You'll always have your "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" types but they only make it 1 term or they become part of the system they are fighting.

(b) A good man or woman who represents his/her district or state well, has strong morals and leads an upright life wouldn't get any news. An asshat whose nomination to be Vice President was the greatest mistake made by a president since the isolationist policies of the early 20th century does get news. This is especially true when he has the personality of a starved hyena and shoots his friend in the face while hunting.

Is it fair? No. Then again, it's not written in the Bible that life is fair. What is written is that God sorts it all out in the end.

Is it me, or is this part of the problem? I mean, it's great when religion inspires people to do good or whatever, but I hate the "It'll all work out in the end" thing. Why should we wait for someone else to fix our problems? If people would just fix things themselves instead of waiting for someone else to do it, the world would be a much better place.
