Some good regional microbrew. Here in Indiana that would include Three Floyds Brewing Company who make some really fine beers including one of my favorites, Robert The Bruce Scottish Ale; Bells ales from Kalamazoo Brewing Company including a great porter and several wonderful stouts. I could go on but you get the idea and unless you're in this area, specific beers won't be much help. Oh, one more local is really good and the name will have a familiar sound: Belle Guinness Stout is a
product of the Back Roads Brewery which is named for a notorious at the time but nearly forgotten mass murderess of the early 20th century from the LaPorte Indiana area.

Young's Luxury Double Chocolate Stout is rapidly replacing Guinness on my preference list.

Spaten Optimator is a fantastic Doppel Bock.

I believe that sending me a metric ton of buffalo wings and sauces of varied spiceitude would be the best decision to make as manager.

2003-02-16 09:15:30 PM
Oops, so used to typing Guinness, I typed Belle's name wrong. Her name and the Stout are Belle Gunness. And I have no idea where the odd formatting came from.

Why would you waste all these great beers on wings? As far as I'm concerned, when eating wings (and I like them hot to suicidal), I want the cheapest beer on the menu so I can chug it back once the burning starts. I'd hate to waste a good Guinness or Newcastle putting out a chicken wing fire.

Three recommendations from another Buffalo Farker:

1. Check out Pacific Coast Brewing Co. (http://www.pacificcoastbrewing.com/beers.htm) in Oakland--the Old Town section. Especially the Grey Whale Ale. I tried out just about all of there beers during a trip this summer. They've got some fantastic stuff.

2. Get some Yuengling Bros. products in. Brewed in Pottsville (?) Pennsylvania, it is purportedly the oldest continuously run family brewery in America. I don't know about that, but there is a fairly large following for YB in the Buffalo area. They've got a good lager and a good ale.

3. Finally, an old and well known favorite, Harpoon IPA. Doesn't show up often around here on draft, but it seems to be the only thing I drink when I'm in Boston.

What bar is it? We'll stop by to check out the results of the survey.

There's voting? For beer? That's worth re-posting with a voting tag.

I can't wait for the beer snobs to come in here and start preaching how there one specific narrow style of beer is the only type you should drink. They're so pretentious that they will even go on to exclaim how their brand of that specific narrow style rocks, and some other brand that is almost completely identical sucks. You know the type. They always say something like, "Bud rules! Coors sucks!" or something to that effect. Farking snobs.

Were are you at? Your closest micro-brewery would be the best bet.

Other than that try Blue Moon Belgian white ale.

I forgot to mention not to carry coors. Not only it's from colorado, but it also tastes like piss.

SuperCoot

How long? Shiner is not that big a brewery.Cool it should not just be hoarded here anyway.

2003-02-17 02:46:00 AM
Does anybody remember just plain old Shiner Beer? Cheap swill or a cheap drunk. I don't know if they brew it anymore, but they did for a long time.

Erie Rail Bender

No idea where this place is, so I am not sure if you can get it there.

2003-02-17 03:24:05 AM
Schlitz - and rig up something that plays the Schlitz jingle everytime you pull the tap.

2003-02-17 03:24:09 AM
In Buffalo, you must have Labatt's Blue. Not the best, but a staple of every college-aged kid here. My vote for best would have to be Guiness, Harp, and someone who knows how to make a good black and tan. For microbrewed stuff, I have no idea, but the Pizza Plant on Main St. in Williamsville always has a good selection.

2003-02-17 03:24:32 AM

[Insert name of most obscure cool beer that shows how elite I am]
Also, Guiness [regardless of whether or not I actually like to drink it]

2003-02-17 03:28:28 AM
Well, taking into account I'm currently on holiday in Germany, I can recommend one German beer so far, Franziskaner.

I still have 2 weeks to go...plenty of time to sample all of the beers here.

2003-02-17 03:29:48 AM
Alexander Keith's India Pale Ale (A great beer that's been brewed in Nova Scotia, Canada for over 150 years)

2003-02-17 03:30:47 AM
keiths is awesome

2003-02-17 03:31:42 AM
Definitely Rolling Rock or Killian's Irish Red.

2003-02-17 03:32:15 AM
Without knowing where in the country you are to allow for local micros, my only insistance is Bass, Bass, and more Bass.

2003-02-17 03:32:17 AM
BASS!
