Now, if he'd only leave that ban in place . . .
2003-02-16 08:25:55 PM
Not like the Honda would go anywhere anyway :(
2003-02-16 08:26:09 PM
And I still have to walk to class tomorrow... bah what a crock.
2003-02-16 08:26:38 PM
meh... next ~ MD Governor outlaws sex, beer, and all things good and proper in america
2003-02-16 08:27:05 PM
Driving bans are no fun. Most people don't even pay attention to them, least round my area. People think that they are the Jesus C. Allah of motorcoach piloting.
2003-02-16 08:27:22 PM
Hm, seems they've got a bit of snow out there.
2003-02-16 08:27:30 PM
Ah, I briefly scanned the article, and now the headline makes sense. Note to self: occasionally, read the articles. Don't go overboard, though.

I need to be air-dropped some Nati-Bo

That's right Sammy. You CAN'T drive 55.
2003-02-16 08:32:16 PM
Expect Jersey to do the same soon - we did it on all STATE roads in '96 also.
2003-02-16 08:33:27 PM
That's good I use to drive a truck in Maryland and the roads there suck.
2003-02-16 08:34:19 PM
I'm a motorcoach pilot, there's got to be a twist,
a motorcoach pilot has suuuuuch a supple-WHAM!!!!

I think they did the same in PA in March of '93 when that big-ass blizzard hit that year. I was stuck in the farking Virginia mountains that year in a region-wide archery tournament.

At least we didn't have to worry about being stranded with no food. We get hungry, I break out the equipment and do a little hunting. Draw, aim, release, eat.
2003-02-16 08:35:55 PM
We have a Level 3 Snow 'mergcy here now. Which means nobody out unless you're on fire, or would prefer to be. 'course, it's mostly hill country here, so if you get stuck, you're fvcked well and good.
2003-02-16 08:38:01 PM
if the governor outlaws driving, only the outlaws will be able to drive.

//just getting that one out of the way.

Upstate New York closes when three feet of snow fall. In southern New England, it takes over two feet of snow for cars to be ordered off the roads. Maryland is getting a little over one foot.

I survived the April Fool's blizzard of 1997 -- without four wheel drive. Maybe Maryland should invest in driving lessons for police instead of taking all non-4WD cruisers off the road.

I here Vermont Maryland is beautiful this time of year. All that snow . . .

Jwrebholz: I think they did the same in PA in March of '93

Yeah, but I still had to deliver the farking newspaper.

Right now in PA we are excepted to get 18-25 inches. Most schools were closed anyway for President's Day, but I doubt they will be open Tuesday though.

Fortunately, I have a VPN connection to my work, so I can stay home too. Unfortunately I have a 56k modem, so I have to wait after typing each letter.

"I here" = "I hear"

Sigh. Me fail English. That unpossible!
2003-02-16 08:47:27 PM
You're suicidal if you're driving around here tonight. (even moreso because of the snow) It's still coming down in the city. Besides, the plows are plowing all the snow to the right. So even if you manage to get on a state road, all the exits are blocked by mountains of snow.
2003-02-16 08:49:27 PM
ZAZ According to my aching back, and shoulder we've already gotten about 18 inches in my area of MD, and it's still coming down at a rate of better than an inch an hour. I've seen predictions of as much as 2-3 feet in this area before all is said, and done on Monday evening.
2003-02-16 08:50:58 PM
Jersey and DE did the same thing today. DE actually did it at 9am.
2003-02-16 08:55:55 PM
I am sort of glad for this, because during this weather everyone south of canadian border forgets how to drive and drives at 5 mph, on a clear road. You are nuts to go out in this weather unless you got traction control, although I have been told 4WD is worthless in this weather, my moms boyfriend owns a 2 ton truck with 4wd and it doesn't run as well as it should in this weather. I live in Pittsburgh, PA which has the worst roads in the country.
2003-02-16 08:59:55 PM
10-1 the bars are open in Baltimore City.

Gear Jammer: Do you expect me to take the word of an eyewitness over the prediction of the weather forecasters? I mean, sure they might get the snow accumulation wrong by two feet from time to time, but those sunrise times are usually pretty accurate.

Boston has just gotten over the "25th anniversary of the Blizzard of '78" hype.
2003-02-16 09:05:58 PM
You said it... Pittsburgh=bad roads..
2003-02-16 09:06:10 PM
The worst thing about the snow is the endless amount of news coverage...

Anchorman: Yep it sure is snowing... How are we doing Bob?

Weatherman1(Bob): Well... We are F#(^$. Lets go to Justin the second rate weatherman in some asinine location.

Weatherman2(Justin): Well Bob I'm sitting on a popcicle outside of a porn store on Belair RD and a bunch of children are throwing snow and rocks at me... Not a good day to get porn.

Anchorman: No indeed... In other news it is still F%$#& snowing, I repeat still %#(*@ snowing. Don't go to your windows, it is indeed still snowing.
2003-02-16 09:09:00 PM
I'd take MD snow over our ice any day. My 'snowmobile' car sits out side and I had to pour hot water on the door jam to get it open to get more beer. Bummer.
2003-02-16 09:13:03 PM
yah, they are threatening fines and/or jail if you drive in some areas. right now they are bringing out the anti-SUV missles and lasers... lot of lasers...
2003-02-16 09:14:07 PM
I grew up in Pittsburgh. I'm in total agreement with Freebirdpat, the roads there are the worst I've ever seen in my life. When I moved to NM I was shocked to find out that not every roadway in the country had a pothole every 50 feet. They have the worst roads and use more salt than any other state. Coincidence? Meanwhile out here they don't know what road salt IS. So yeah, we get an inch of snow and the frickin' governor declares a state of emergency. Whole damn town shuts down cuz none of these damn yokels knows how to drive in the snow.
2003-02-16 09:14:16 PM
Im close to bumfvck, MD and the snow is stil fallin.. weatherbug and the local channels are calling for 3 feet now!!!!... so if u wanna go out in this shiat be my guest... I dont have school for the next two days anyway so I stick my toungue out at u in victory... good luck if u gotta leave... neihbor had to go to the hospital today.. nothin too serious but i bet they met some deep powder.. any way GOODLUCK AGAIN!!!!
2003-02-16 09:15:10 PM
What a wasted day off for President's Day tomorrow, though. If it was a regular workday, I'm sure they'd be closed for snow, which hasn't happened in, umm, a long time. Since it's supposed to keep going through Monday some time, maybe they'll be closed Tuesday anyway, but I have no high hopes.

Snow Disaster 2003!
2003-02-16 09:24:40 PM
you gotta be kidding-what a bunch of wussies...maybe I've just driven in the stuff more often....jeesh
2003-02-16 09:30:54 PM
Maybe America should declare war on weather! That would solve our problems...

There are no porn stores on Belair rd, I've looked and looked!

There is one Amigajoe.

Near the Frank's Pizza where Belair rd meets Kenwood ave. It used to be ALL-STAR Video.

Eat More Possum As much as shoveling all this snow sucks, I gotta agree with you on the snow vs ice. I'll take the two feet of snow over 2 inches of ice any day. 2 inches of ice will bring trees, power lines, and just about anything else down causing severe power outages. I feel for the folks that live south of MD, and are getting tons of ice.

ZAZ I don't recall the Blizzard of '78, but I do remember the Blizzard of '79 down here in MD. The weather guys claim even today that it was something like 18 inches, but I know that it was more like 3 feet. I woke up, and looked outside to see how much snow we'd gotten, and my window was covered over by a 10 foot drift. Interestingly enough the original prediction for that storm was flurries. School was out for a week, and people were bartering for food in the streets. Oh the good ol days.
2003-02-16 09:39:20 PM
I just want to jump on the "y'all are pussies" bandwagon and point out that here in Central New York I have gotten over 3 feet of lake effect snow in about 10 days...and had to drive every goddamned one of them.

/that is all.
2003-02-16 09:39:41 PM

Go hang with your snow elitism, bub. We've got 3" drifts in the driveway. Take it from one who spent tons of time in northern Michigan... NO ONE shrugs off 24-36 inches of snow. Even Traverse and Mackinac have problems with that size of storm. And folks up there don't brag about their snow capabilities like moronic asshats either.

As for the state police slam. You're soooooo knowledgable, huh? Tell me... ever drive a Ford Crown Vic cruiser in 12"+ of snow?

I thought not, big mouth.

Trap cliche in 3...2...
2003-02-16 09:41:09 PM
Gearjammer, was anyone prostituting themselves out for food, then it would be the good ole' days...
2003-02-16 09:41:51 PM
Thats fine to outlaw driving b/c I have a feeling I won't be seeing my car for a few days. I know it out there, somewhere in that parking lot...

Okay, here's a question for all you out there, any advice on what to do tomorrow since my University is closed?? I covered sleeping, cooking and reading Fark today, I need to spice my life up a little.
2003-02-16 09:42:42 PM

But your municipality probably has big time snow removal gear, right?

Stop your bragging bub... How you'd do if all your town had was dump truck plows and salt. And please don't try to tell me we should spend millions on snow blowers for a once in a decade storm.
2003-02-16 09:43:10 PM
To the Yankees who keep coming in here saying things like "what a bunch of wimps we get snow like that every other week, and get by fine".

Perhaps you are failing to realise that due to the fact that your area traditionally gets a lot of snow, the government in your area has had the forethought to invest in vast quatities of snow removal equipment, and personel to run them. On the other hand in areas that don't get a lot of snow it would be wasteful to spend so much money on equipment that would just sit, and rot most of the time. As a result on those rare occasions when we do get a large amount of snow things can be a little dicey for a while.

My only advice to you is to start drinking heavily
