Jesus Farkin Christ!!

metal ladder? jumper cables?

Deputies said if Achterberg is released from the hospital he will be charged with theft of services and running a meth lab

yeaaaahhh... because we all know he is going to pull through from this.

I'm off to WebMD and Wikipedia to read what the recommended treatment for 'hardened organs' is.

BWAHAHAHAAAA!!!!! clamped that jumper cable right onto the distribution line!? POW!!!! Poor idiot felt the effect of 7 to 14 thousand volts of AC current.

Wow, that article has about the highest WTF to word ratio of any I've read recently.

I didn't realize that meth production was all that electricity intensive an operation that it warranted stealing power, it's not like you're running a bunch of lamps like a grow op.

Also, in the pic that queezyweesel posted it looks like he tried to shunt *across* the distribution line. That must of been spectacular.

I was trying to decide if he did that (imagine the arc flash!), or if he managed to clamp onto the lower conductor, but got zapped and dropped the clamp on the top conductor (it almost looks like it's dangling from the handle).

Either way, this was an EPIC "hey y'all watch this!" moment.

That's why they pay hot-stickers the big bucks.

By the way, according to the pic the clamps look firmly attached to both the hot and neutral. So he hooked up the bottom one first (it's already at ground potential.)

I still don't have any insight to offer on how this cunning plan was supposed to work, though.

I can't wait to show this pic to the linemen at my company.

His organs were'nt hardened. More like al dente.

2009-06-01 09:05:16 PM
So... what was he going to do once he connected the two lines together? Get out his knife, strip off some insulation and clamp on another set of jumpers? And then do the same thing until he gets to his kitchen? He'd need at least 10 or 12 sets of cables to get that done.

2009-06-01 09:14:23 PM
Hardened organs? Like my liver? And my prostate? And not my...nevermind.

2009-06-01 09:19:11 PM
He didn't think he could short that line with jumpers arcing in the wind.

So you've decided to steal electricity ...

Why yes, I HAVE decided to steal electricity, but it's not the reason you think. I need it to run the powerful klieg lights I use to illuminate my collection of glass unicorn figurines. They look so sparkly that way!

Damn - that meth shiat short-circuits your brain.

Neighbor was so whacked on it, he climbed on his toilet to clean out his bathroom vent. Toilet broke and he fell, violently landing on the pointy corner of the sink. Organ damage ended his life soon after.

The meth didn't kill him, the organ damage didn't kill him - it was stupid that killed him.

from TFA:
Achterberg was electrocuted and fell to the ground.

from Paul Brians' excellent "Common Errors in English":
To electrocute is to kill using electricity. If you live to tell the tale, you've been shocked, but not electrocuted.

I guess as a kid this guy was never dared to put his tongue on a 9 volt battery. 'lectricity hurts!!!! Although I didn't know it could harden your organs. Viagra better watch its ass!

I used to work power line construction. Yes you can jumper power like that (using the correct gauge wire) but it looks like this mental midget crossed phases (instant death).

WTF is the point in charging the guy with a criminal offense. It would be a waste of taxpayer money. There's no way the guy is going to want to ever try this again. He's already received enough punishment via having his organs literally cooked until well-done, and suffering major bone breakage from the fall. To arrest him and put him on trial would just be adding insult to injury and would serve no purpose. Just let it go!

2009-06-01 10:13:08 PM
Also, it would be stupid to charge him with theft of anything since he obviously failed in his attempt to steal anything. They can always send him a bill for the electricity used to roast his organs, being that they know who he is and where his place of residence is.

2009-06-01 10:14:07 PM
FTA: "...and tried to siphon the electricity with jumper cables."

Shouldn't his lips be a little scorched too?

Is there a definition of siphon I'm not familiar with?

BRANCH, Ark. -- A neighbor who lives along South Hopkins Road in Branch called 911 Friday night when a man fell from a power pole near her home. Franklin County deputies said Roy Achterberg may have been trying to steal electricity from the power pole to run to his nearby home.
Achterberg placed a metal ladder on the pole and tried to siphon the electricity with jumper cables. Achterberg was electrocuted and fell to the ground. Family members said he broke his back, neck, pelvis and his organs were hardened from the electricity, leaving him in critical condition.

While deputies were investigating the theft of electricity, they found a meth lab in Achterberg's home. The fifth judicial Drug Task Force cleaned up the chemcials.

Deputies said if Achterberg is released from the hospital he will be charged with theft of services and running a meth lab.

Kinda wish he had gotten this LINE voltage to his house.

I am currently syphoning electricity so I am really getting a charge out of these comments...

2009-06-01 10:23:26 PM
Just charge the fool with running the meth lab. Theft of services (attempted?) would just be adding insult to injury.

2009-06-01 10:24:11 PM
Here's something I don't understand:

How much meth does an average meth lab produce? Is it just enough for the user or does it produce a shiatload of end product that can be sold to all the really top-notch people in the neighborhood?

Because if the guy makes enough meth that he sells it, I'd assume that he might put two and two together and put some of that profit toward buying electricity.

2009-06-01 10:25:08 PM

You'd be surprised how tweakers lose the ability for rational thought. It has something to do with damage to the frontal lobes of the brain that meth causes.

/My guess is the only lesson he learned was to cook at some place other than his house.
