Unions are fronts for organized crime and nothing more. This isn't the early 1900s.

So, I guess we aren't going to be solving the tragedy of the commons this time.

The article didn't mention anything about unions. Do you have to push your agenda in every unrelated thread?

We get it, you people don't like workers working together to improve their wages, hours, and conditions. Corporations all the way, and all that jazz.

Just find a proper thread for it.

Cutting grass at 8:30am huh? No wonder why he got into trouble, the park bench bums probably complained about it.

At the scene, Sandusky police Officer John Powell measured the grass and it was indeed more than one foot high. Police also found the park littered with paper, bottles and children's underwear.

WTF? O.o

It seems to me that just about everyone in the neighborhood should individually file suit against the city for failure to maintain its property in a way that adversely affects their health, safety, and property values. Even if they don't win, it'd send the right message, as would firing whoever their city council members are.

So let me get this straight: in Toledo citizens are being asked to help in mowing public property - 60 miles away they are arresting people for it. Yeah, sounds about right, Ohio, this is why I moved

Well, this is a democracy, if the people of (what ever hole in space and time is inhabited by these people, placed here) then just vote out your city services employees, including the mayor.
otherwise shut the fark up. we/you have the power at this level of government to make a real difference, as i heard far too many times this last presidential election; vote for change.

The horror. I thought we employed illegal immigrants to do that kind of work.

Sheeple usually wait until the next mandated election to decide who runs the town rather than going through the drama of kicking out current officials.

With that said, I know it's pretty extreme to kick out someone in public office based on what this guy did. But if he can earn the backing of the community then why not?

cpubus: damn, now he's probably going to end up getting sentenced to community service

Seriously, if I were the judge that's what I would do. Sentence him to community service and have that service be mowing the park.

House of Tards: Still not

This isn't the first time something like this has happened. Typically the reason people get bent out of shape about things like this is because they're doing a union worker's job for free and that's forbidden by the union's contract. His/her assumption is not unreasonable at all.

Your local government.

Finding a way to hose you out of revenue since Jesus was an altar boy while providing, all in all, FA for your tax money.

Here's something a lot of people don't know.

Your garden variety dipwad couldn't manage a dry cleaners without it going to their head. A small city? A district? A state? I don't want average Joes handling civic affairs because it takes somebody with the wisdom of Solomon to just deal with a little assed city of 60,000 - sans the Napoleon complex. Give the guy an award and use it as a springboard to create a beautification program.

And in some community's they are asking for people to mow the parks. Kind of double edged, although I can relate to the 8:30 thing. Please wait until after noon. No really, wait until after noon, please.

So much this.

People who do loud outdoors lawn work in the morning need to be cockpunched.

It would more or less depend if the park was in a residential or commercial area, if commercial, I'd be all for it, if residential, I might still be sleeping in on some days.

I also, am a citizen, surprisingly.

Oh, I don't think it's a crazy assumption at all. I'm just seeing a lot of "GAH! Unions" posts without any corroboration. I know that the parks crew here is not union, but I really don't know about Ohio (except for there being 4 dead in it). And while the crew here wouldn't let the grass get a foot tall unless we had 2 weeks of rain, they would probably have a citizen arrested who tried to mow the park too. If his mower kicks out a bottle and breaks his shin, then he's gonna sue them.

I'm gonna go throw my chainsaw at my circular saw while I powerwash my deck in the morning, so I'm getting a kick out of these replies.

/Kidding. Won't mow before 11.

I've been told by a certain a**hole morning person that I lived next door to, that everyone should be up by 8:00 anyway, since sleeping later is a sure sign of laziness.

Seriously.
