IKEA isn't a furniture store. It's a furniture-themed restaurant, specializing in meatballs.

FTFA: "Ikea has a legitimate interest in ensuring that the Ikea brand isn't watered down."

Clearly upset that their reputation for selling low cost DIY crap with missing pieces will be damaged in some way.

At least if you buy something second hand, there's a good chance that the original owner has made/bought the extra bits needed to make it stand up/light up/work etc??

This:
Ikea's lawyer states in his submission that Ikea doesn't have the ability to check the condition or features of used furniture sold on the site and that Ikea has a legitimate interest in ensuring that the Ikea brand isn't watered down.

made me laugh...

I suppose ilovesauder.com is at risk of lawsuit as well...

I would argue we are territorial herd animals. Observe:

FTFA:"It's obvious that a visitor to a homepage with the description iloveikea as the impression that it is the applicant (Ikea) which lies behind the website to which the domain name leads," write Ikea's representative, attorney Jonas Gulliksson.

Well no. I assume it's someone who LIKES Ikea...

This is my favorite Ikea headline by far:

Ikea recalls 650,000 Flämi desk lamps (new window)

\I still laugh every time I go there.

Actually, the bottom one is China. Check the link name if you don't believe me. I don't know about the top one, but I would assume it's in the US.

Not to spoil the joke, but I don't think I've ever seen instructions that tell you to insert Tab A into Slot B. It's always Tab A into Slot A, and Tab B into Slot B. A few minutes' though will reveal why Tab A/Slot B doesn't make a goddamn bit of sense.

Me too.

Send it to an arbitrator, make some kind of working relationship, both parties profit.

The key is compromise.

Close. It's the world's largest charity dedicated to interior design. They're set up as a bunch of shell corporations headquartered in the Netherlands.
Creepy, sleazy asshole.

Damnit, didn't you read the manga thread? The last panel in the bottom right clearly depicts a sexual act between a man and an underage woman, so we're all pedos.

The bottom one was not identified in the Slate article, other than "Little boxes on a hillside." The article was about suburban sprawl in America, but the photograph appeared next to a paragraph about sprawl in European cities.

You think having to buy crap from IKEA is bad? Try working there...

From day 1 it's brainwashing you into thinking "the Ikea way" is a better way to do business. For a retail chain they spend alot of money trying to convince their new staff that they're now part of a bigger, happier family. This includes hours and hours of propoganda movies, all showing happy smiling people saying how great a place it is to work at... For a nickel above minimum wage...

Now, the forklift safety training videos are a completely different story! All of them have the original swedish voice only partially muted in the background, with english dubbed over.

Video #1: Bjorn von Borken talking about forklift safety, then the camera pans to a happy mother and child wandering through the warehouse. Cut to the evil forklift driver and his 7000lbs of rolling death, speeding through the warehouse to - I kid you not - the shark music from Jaws. Kiddie runs off with his toy truck to play in the warehouse while mummy turns away. Cut to the forklift that is lifting a sofa up to the rafters, but oh no it falls! A quick shot of mummy screaming, then a shot of the toy truck rolling slowly away, with no kid in sight.

Video #2: This one is essentially 45 minutes of forklifts running off loading docks, running into walls, impaling staff and customers, shearing arms from staff, and causing enough pain and suffering to keep Skynet happy. Every single accident involves a dummy that must be pumped up with fake blood and hamburger meat to about 500psi, so even the forklift that falls a whole 2 feet ends with an explosion of blood and gore.

As for the stuff they sell? Well, the book cases aren't bad...

1 - No, it's not 1940s-era footage, they're post-WW2 Germans.

I used to take my RX-7 to a place called Mainly Mazda - a guy named Mainly who worked on them. The Mazda lawyers were on him for years to stop using their name in his business title.

Even after he stopped, they tried to force him to stop advertising he would work on Mazda's. Don't know how that turned out.

Sorry, my attention was diverted by the "Pastor to sue dating site over release of rude comments" link on that page.

"The pastor, who is retired, claimed he was drunk when he posted the lewd comments" ... "'You look really drab and dreary. You probably have to pay for sex,' the elderly pastor reportedly wrote to another woman."

Swedish pastors rock!

No, I don't think it was that one...but it was 10+ years ago that I worked there so maybe it was.

Either way, my life is now more complete for having seen that.
