CnFlght: Can someone explain to me why social conservatives are so afraid of gay marriage? In a non-snarky matter. Seriously.

I really, really cannot see the other side of denying humans rights because they've chosen a different lifestyle. Which doesn't impact anyone else's.

The belief is most commonly connected to their Christian upbringing. The way they rationalize it is the ol' slippery slope argument that makes no sense: allowing gay marriage leads to pedophilia and bestiality which leads to Jesus leaving the country (back to Mexico, I assume) which leads to we all go to hell because we aren't following the Bible. Or something like that.

Never mind that they siad this about interracial marriage 40 years ago, and allowing women to vote before that, and freeing the slaves before that, and allowing divorces before that, etc.

BorgiaGinz - The woman clearly is in need of clinical treatment for serious mental illness. These paranoid fantasies are symptomatic of a psychotic break with reality.

Im suprised that nobody at the Georgia Informer seems to have noticed that the woman is seriously delusional. At Fox News, she'd blend in.

One of her columns linked above has great, huge red letters stating her opinions are not necessarily those of the Georgia Informer, so someone must have noticed something.

Staffers aren't going to let some strange woman walk up to the President and hand him something. Who knows what it is? It could be a bomb. It could be anthrax. It could be a letter laced with LSD. I mean come on, did she really think she was going to get away with that?

Probably not. I smell "publicity for our tiny worthless publication".

His point might be that being gay isn't a choice, but the lifestyle is. Plenty of gays stay closeted and marry someone of the opposite sex so they aren't ostracized.

Which traditional marriage is she supporting?
The kind where a husband is the man of the house and the wife is subservient, and he can beat her and rape her and lock her in the basement and do the same with the kids?
Or the kind where he can have multiple wives?
Or is it the traditional marriage where you marry your sister in law and impregnate her and raise a daughter you rape?
Or is it the kind where you let the husband fark who he wants to and beat her if she lifts an eyebrow to his infidelities?
Could it be the traditional marriage where you have to tithe a pedophile Priest to look the other way when she confesses to having hatred for her husband in a confesional for his beating cheating ways, and she has to do pennance?
Or is it the tradtitional marriage where you can just sell her if you want to?
/inquiring minds want to know.

I still fail to see why the Right thinks whether the lifestyle is chosen or not is some kind of leveraged debate point.

Only thing I see is the Left's reaction to the idea giving the point weight. It's very sad.

As It's a great point to call out the Right on their hypocrisy of demanding government not run consenting adults lives.

The question of whether someone is born gay or chooses to be so is moot. This is America.

I saw the video of her being hauled away on CNN this afternoon and was surprised she had a press pass. Seriously, can anyone get one of those

Yoo hoo, me again.

I've been working for the newspaper industry for three years now, and have seen this come across our newsroom once or twice - once for Obama, once for Bush and once for the VP.

Basically, you have a bunch of paperwork to fill out (really it's only a few pages but when faxed it seems as if the papers won't stop coming through). You fill these pages out, your editor and publisher sign off on them, then they're faxed/mailed back to the originating address, which is usually a Secret Service office I believe.

Once you have your credentials, you still are hoping to be picked to be among the pool of reporters who get to either ask the questions or stand there yelling them out as the dignitary/President/Vice President/President's body double/whoever passes by you.

It's not just an easy cut and dry. There's a lot of hoops to go through. We had an easier time actually getting a reporter in to witness an execution of a prisoner than we have had attempting to get White House credentials.

OK, see if you can follow along. You assert (rightly) that Marriage is a religious status. Said religions do not permit homosexuality. Ergo, there can be no such thing as Gay Marriage.

You can call it what you want, but it will never be marriage.

CaptFun: OK, see if you can follow along. You assert (rightly) that Marriage is a religious status.

Not in this country it isn't. Legally, it is a civil contract, no religious involvement needed. Now, you can add the religious element to it if that's your thing, but there is no requirement whatsoever that a marriage needs to be religious in any way.
