apart from this story being total unmitigated bullshiat, you mean.

/you're right, though - the dems - at least in the south and a few northeastern cities - were the bad guys for a long time. ah... remember when the republicans were the good guys? lincoln? TR? eisenhower? how sad it is that the roles are reversed and the once-proud party of liberty and freedom is now a party of hysterical tyranny and corporate avarice.

It may have something to do with the clear coat charge.

My 5 year old gets 5 "time-outs" a week. Meaning, if he's naughty, picks on the cats, doesn't listen, etc... he gets a "time out." Five minutes on the stairs.

See, 5-year olds should misbehave from time to time, it's normal. Healthy. But there should be consequences. Rules are rules, he's got to learn acceptable behavior, and we'd be remiss for not "punishing," even if it's just 5 minutes sitting on the stairs.

But after 5 such events in a week comes the "serious" punishments -- No TV for the weekend, favorite toy removal, play date or museum trip cancellation -- something that, in preschooler time seems unbearably harsh and unfair, wah wah.

Conversely, we try not to reward basic good behavior, since that should be the norm, and we try to model good actions being their own reward. But sometimes he can earn credits with something extraordinary... there's no policy, we know it when we see it. Cleaning a room without being asked... helping a friend from Korea with her words... etc.

In 10 months of doing this this way, we've only hit the magic 5 once.

My point is this: we should apply something similar to media linked on Fark and elsewhere. It's OK for a site to be partisan, and it's okay for a partisan site to overreach sometimes.

But accusations like this -- Obama is closing GOP-donating dealers only! -- when a) there is a formula to the closings that can be verified and b) there is a percentage of donations between dealers and party donations that matches the closure rate -- are extra bad.

If they used the situation to show that dealers know who the better candidate was, that's fine, if they wanted to say this will lose Democrats the car dealer vote forevermore, great. But do go that far with such a criminal investigation, to couch cherrypicking in the classic passive "evidence is mounting..." frame, and then to be so very wrong... well, there should be some kind of consequence for that, too.

World Net Daily is fine being partisan, and if they or others really had uncovered something major in this, I'd be more forgiving for the mistakes. But after a while, even if you agree with Drudge, WND, O'Reilly -- or Kos or Olbermann most of the time, shouldn't these total BS fests make you look elsewhere? Shouldn't there be consequences in terms of readership (or Fark linksmanship) for repeatedly pushing false stories (or misleading headlines?)

Just some thoughts.

Syphilis_Smile: Ahh Democrats, ruining the business careers of Republicans since the 1880's. The NJ Democratic Governor, Leon Abbett, committed vast voter fraud in Hudson County to get elected. His opponent that year funded a large investigation of the crime, and did serious damage to the Dems' reputation in the state.

In response? Abbett had his son (whom he had appointed as Attorney General) to keep an eye on his rival, and to bring cases against him whereever possible. Some hippie artist was trying to sue the General in a NYC court, so Abbett got it brought in Jersey, where the Genl couldn't laugh it off.

The public attempts by teh Dems to detroy their GOP rivals is often accompanied by behind the scenes actions. Within a decade Abbett's rival was broke, and had to have Woodrow Wilson put up money on his estate to keep from being homeless..

//Reading all that had always just taught me that politics can be a rather nasty business. If the implications made in this article are true, i would not be surprised..

But if you had read the thread, you'd know it's bullshiat. And yeah, politics is nasty always has been. I just wish I could find an example of Republicans doing something nasty, like, I dunno, breaking into the Democrats offices or whatever. That would be sweet.

Not only are the implications in the article not true, they are incredibly stupid. Anyone with even a grade school education should be able to point out the flaws in the argument. The biggest flaw is that the president has no say over what dealerships are closed. The decision is entirely up to Chrysler and the bankruptcy court.

It's not news, it's FARK.com. They do this because it generates flamewars, which means hits, which generates ad revenue. Despite Drew's mockery of the media's excesses, he's in this for the money, not the pursuit of truth. It's an enterainment site, nothing more.

Chrysler is going to be going thorough a big change due to the Fiat buyout. It is going in a new direction to smaller cars. We don't know the corporate criteria, but if say they were working with Fiat, I bet the dealer relationship liasons had some opinions based on the new criteria.

Show me how this works with a few tables controlling for Republican vs. Democratic contributors, and closed vs. left open. Personal stories don't cut it.

Sounds like throwing shiat at the wall and seeing what sticks. And could Cavuto is a hack?

WND explained their method by which they came to results, where they got the source info, and what the results were. All I'm saying is if these "WND! Oh, it must be all crap!" people want to be taken seriously, they should come to the table with a bit more that that. Are their numbers wrong? Great. Show us. Is it really comparable for the remaining ones? Great--show us. But just to do a drive-by on WND and shoot the messenger--that's pretty lame...

WND has a well deserved reputation for publishing unsubstantiated bullshiat day in and day out. They're a "source" that most of us consider not worth the effort to debunk anymore because they have no credibility whatsoever. Yet as many have pointed out in this thread, Nate Silver went ahead and debunked this claim anyway. Yes, once again, the asshats at WND are full of shiat.

Sense, you aren't making any. Also, I read that and the voice in my head was a shrill woman hysterically screaming about something trivial to anyone else (like spilled milk) and not even remotely important to anyone. Heh it's hard to find time to read through these threads during the workweek. The lack of surprise would follow both ways really, as i was just examining the article in the context of a historical example. That's why i tend to follow the example of the military men, for Abbett's rival was certainly up to Vinegar Joe's level of candor. By 1899 he was quoted in the Washington Post as being in favor of granting suffrage to women, as their vote would "purify" politics, and started to call the GOP out as a bunch of farktards. Hence the friendship with Wilson, and the fact that the dood ran on the Democratic ticket for Senate in 1911. Hell, i'm sure you can tell im a republican, but following this dood's example i could have easily gone for the hildabeast, given the douchebaggery of the christians ;)

FlashHarry: ah... remember when the republicans were the good guys? lincoln? TR? eisenhower? how sad it is that the roles are reversed and the once-proud party of liberty and freedom is now a party of hysterical tyranny and corporate avarice.

I think the historical moral that is doomed to repeat itself over and over (judging from the few times ive managed to stomach an entire fark thread) is that both parties are susceptible to human avarice and stupidity. If the claims are debunked, then so much the better.. Lol
