CastorPimp: osiris111: I hope that everyone here having a good laugh at the situation has a child that dies before the age of 5.

that is all.

We did, thanks for your concern!

Yeh really, I sure did.

Frankly, there's not enough dead children, this planet's population is currently unsustainable.

Obama should order the slaughter of every American Child in the US and set a 20 year moratorium on having children to save the planet from Global Warming right?

Mandatory sterilization of anyone who does not pay a net positive tax would actually work wonders. Would really cut down on new Democratic voters though.

And the Republicans would starve to death because there wouldn't be anyone to actually get work done.

I don't know what the original headline was, but I'm really surprised to hear a headline was changed considering how many tasteless headlines get posted all the time. Welcome to Fark?

DeathByGeekSquad: Tatsuma: For people whining "Waaaaaaaaah the mods won't let us make fun of the death of a 4 year old in an headline", please:

- Type www.4chan.org
- Select /b/
- Go there
- fark off and never come back

When I first started lurking on Fark, you'd see countless dark humor headlines and posts, the minority would biatch and moan, and subsequently be told to STFU because 'this is Fark'.

Has Fark lost its edge?

No..I am right here!

but the line should be drawn when the victim is an innocent child.

So this is the line? Four year girl? Same for boys? Making fun of dead five-year-olds OK? Or do they have to hit puberty? Do we allow pedobear because child rape is funnier than child death?

I always felt the only line that fark has is the funny line (which the old headline clearly missed), not peoples feelings. The day fark starts pulling headlines that are offensive, fark is dead.

mjoven1975: The mods did the right thing. I love a tasteless death thread as much as the next guy, but the line should be drawn when the victim is an innocent child.

Most people have loved ones, and tragic death is terrible whether it's someone's child, wife, or friend. The headline when Liam Neeson's wife died was, "Natasha Richardson auditions for the Sonny Bono club". Everyone in the thread thought it was hysterical, praised "Subby" for his bold submission. How is this different? Because it's a child? Is it less tragic when two children lose their mother and Liam Neeson loses his wife? Are Natasha Richardson's motherless children not victims as well? Is the grief of children who lost their mother worth less than the grief of Mike Tyson? I think it's amazing that so many folks got into the mob mentality on this one. Beautiful hypocracy.

FARK does a wonderful job of pointing out the absurdity in every day life, and this is why we keep coming back. Death happens to be a very big part of life. The original headline for this thread didn't cross any new lines or find a new low. I think one dude saw someone whining, was bored, and then decided to do the same. Then, the next guy saw two people whining and followed suit. If the Boobies on the Natasha Richardson thread had been critical of the headline's poor taste then the bandwagon would've made a stink until that one was changed. But, it was praise, instead, so the bandwagon followed a different course.

Really folks, there are much better places to use that kind of passion and outrage than to waste it here.

Oh, pardon me...I forgot that I'm traipsing about in Literland. Carry on.

Whaddya know...Mike Tyson himself posted in this thread. Wow.Fano: Dear Fark WhiteKnights:

I have prepared a statement of incredulosity concerning the situationality that has occured. Why are you so hung up on this? This is absolutely ludicrous. What freaks me out is time. Time is like a book. You have a beginning, a middle and an end. It's just a cycle. God lets everything happen for a reason. It's all a learning process, and you have to go from one level to another.

I don't react to a tragic happening any more. I took so many bad things as a kid and some people think I don't care about anything. It's just too hard for me to get emotional. I can't cry no more. feel bad about my outlook, how I feel about people and society, and that I'll never be part of society the way I should. I feel like sometimes that I was not meant for this society.
I know how hard it is to be a woman, especially a black woman. I know I'm going to blow one day. My life is doomed the way it is. I have no future.

I think the average person thinks I'm a nut and I deserve whatever happens to me. I'm a dreamer. I have to dream and reach for the stars, and if I miss a star then I grab a handful of clouds. Thank you and good night.

He sure did.

This. There's such a thing as "too soon/tasteless" for fark

I've seen a-holes on here make snide and hurtful comments in threads about death. "People" to whom my first reaction was anger and a desire to smack the empty head off their damn shoulders.

Sometimes I wonder if the priorities around here are misplaced. I don't need to see the original thread or submission to know it contained more asshats than normal

When I was 10 there was a new kid a school named Jimmy Fryes. I got along well with him and we got to be pretty good friends. Fast forward two years. It's the week before spring vacation (a Tuesday if I remember correctly) and Jimmy doesn't show up to school. He turns up missing and isn't seen for the next two weeks. They end up finding him in the basement in a room he wasn't supposed to have access to (his parents rented the house they lived in and didn't have a key to the room) after strokin' it while suffocating himself and subsequently passing out. I look back on this and think not of how his parents felt (which had to be terrible) or how I could have prevented this from happening (I know there was nothing I could have done) but of how much of an awesome headline FARK could have made with this back in 1998.

lolwut? Seriously though, I think this story is horribly sad and in my own person I feel that way. However I don't turn to fark for that side of me, I turn to fark for the side of me that uses humor to deal with difficult situations (maybe to help with the side that thinks it's terrible). And to be clear I don't think that there's anything wrong with that. We all deal with things in our own way and it's no one's position to tell anyone else how to feel or how to deal with something.

Nope, not even close. The child fails to meet the requirements on several levels, but most importantly the one for "maturity":

Maturity

* Capable of sound judgment.

The nominee must be at least past the legal driving age and free of mental defect.
