Boy, those MIT nerds are stupid. Everyone with half a brain knows that global warming is a lie.

More specifically, their conclusions under the "policy" scenario didn't move much at all-- the "no policy" scenario increased in magnitude significantly, largely due to more information about economic factors in an unregulated carbon market.

Of course, this being Fark, this will soon degenerate into general attacks on the efficacy of science, such as:

Spitzer wannabe: Your days are numbered, the truth is on the internet. Keep your peer reviewed publications. I prefer mass media AND the truth

nicksteel: "Creationists read the bible and Jon Snow reads scientific magazines, what is the difference?"

I take comfort knowing that the really good seashore properties are in the heands of the wealthiest individuals who will scream the loudest the moment the sea rises up to cover them.

But we'll probably bail them out when the time comes.

I predict lots of graphs, charts and name calling.

Yes, but what do the people with a whole brain think?

If their model is so great, why can't they predict the temperature next week?

Needless to say, the study says the outcome is worse when no action is taken. To help illustrate that point, the authors devised these cool looking roulette wheels with the odds of different temperature changes.

I prefer to focus on Al Gore by making snarky little comments about his personal habits instead of looking at a stupid "graph" or dumb "chart" those farking scientists think they are sooooo smart with all their words and numbers.

We're all gonna die! Even if the American Clean Energy and Security Act passes, we will all die! Not even MIT scientists with roulette wheels can save us.

nfw: If their model is so great, why can't they predict the temperature next week?

So if you think you can predict the tides, why can't you predict the wave heights next Tuesday?

\As in climate is to weather like tide heights are to wave heights.

This

No matter how deep people bury their heads in the sand, I know the time will come when those with the money and property on the coast, will use their political influence biatch and moan and get things done. Meanwhile the conspiracy nuts can continue to delude themselves into believing the whole thing is some kind of scam.

Good to see you want to stay informed, subby. Clearly, anything that you can't see TODAY can't really be happening.

Is global warming necessarily a bad thing? I mean, winter in Chicago sucks, and have you met a polar bear? They're kind of assholes.

thenateman: Global warming's adherents remind me of doomsday whack jobs.

Amen to that, brother.

We have absolutely zero reliable data about what the Earth was like in the distant past, much less how it was a few thousand years ago. We only have direct measurements for the past 200 or so years. Yet these scientists claim that whats going on now is unnatural - as if there's something MORE natural the Earth herself!

I figure this warming is just the removal of the most recent ice age. Look at the dinosaurs - they didn't live in ice caves, so naturally the Earth didn't have the frigid weather it has now in North and South poles.

Absolutely nuts.

Some of us could use a little global warming. All I know is that it is too cold to sell ice cream today. Therefore, I fark.

What about the last 30 years of the "We are all going to DIE!!!" Global Warming nonsense? I'm still waiting on that property I bought from Lex Luther to turn a profit from California sinking into the sea.

To Jon Snow, the sun, the sun, the sun. The sun influences all climate infinitely more than man can. Carbon taxes and carbon credits will not change the sun's mind any more than sacrificing your firstborn.

Why is it the more we learn about Global Warming being utterly bogus... The louder they scream that we're all going to die and we're going to die sooner and more painfully than EVER BEFOOOOORE?

i love global warming threads. so many people think that their outrage and sharp one liners will change the views of anyone. the people that don't believe won't believe unless it actually happens. the people that do believe cannot be convinced otherwise no matter how long it takes. global warming is the leftist's second coming of christ.

there. i believe that's more than one line to exclude me from my initial statement =p

At what point can the winning side say "I told you so!" ?

I say when Miami is underwater the climate change scientists and supports can say I told you so.

and

I say when 2050 hits and there aren't mass immigrations away from coastal areas the status quo folks can say I told you so.

Except for that inconvenient truth that even according to NOAA's own data, the temperature trend for this entire century is for COOLING (note slope on trendline equation), not warming.

But hey, why let a little thing like the, you know, actual scientific data get in the way of your religion, Chicken Little.

2009-05-26 07:45:45 PM
It's a computer model. So you get out what you expect to get out because you wrote it that way. Then you test it versus another set of data to see if you are close to being correct.

So all we need is another planet to test this on.....

Don't forget earth's magnetic field, which has been decreasing, increasingly rapidly, probably in preparation for a reversal.

Think it's toasty now? Woo buddy, just wait. You're gonna wish like crazy for cloud cover.

Chicken Little is an allegory.

It's design is to teach people that the sky has been falling since the beginning of time.

Scientists are all over the map on the subject. However, there is a huge social-political movement that wants it to be true. And they want to pass laws. Laws that cost developed countries trillions of dollars. Because then, we're "doing something."

It's a trillion dollar version of collecting pop can tabs. Worthless.
