Well, that was way better than I thought it would be. In fact, he was excellent. Get the kid some singing lessons and he would be dynamite with the teen set.

Holy smokes, that kid is AWESOME! I hadn't seen the video yet, thanks for posting it.

He's really good, but I'm still rooting for Susan Boyle to win.

I think that's closer to locking than breakdancing. Awesome, though.

Definitely locking, but badass nonetheless.

Wanna hear something ironic?

Sitting in Britain, wanting to see the clip of Britain's Got Talent, and I stumble at the first hurdle thanks to;

"This video is not available in your country or domain"

Dagnammit.

2009-05-26 04:24:11 AM
Not ironic, deliberate. They do that so the TV stations in Britain can have a monopoly on that video clip and don't lose viewers to YouTube. In other countries where British shows are not on TV, it doesn't matter.

I am SO with you on that!

my wife hated himn, but i thought he was pretty funny.

That's not breakdancing, that's liquid style. Very fluent, like water.

This is breakdancing. Very acrobatic, like gymnastics.

This is popping & locking. Very staccato, like stop-motion animation.

I don't watch American Idol, but my impression from what I've heard is that Simon is a hard ass. Everything I've seen from Britain's got Talent seems to suggest that he's a really an ok sort of guy. He's really nice to the kids in fact. Why the difference?

He doesn't have a Paula being nice to people over there? Who knows, it's a reality show and he's playing a part?

...the kid might have a shot if George Sampson hadn't won it all last year.

Probably because the winning act performs in front of the royal family in a one off performance. In idol, they are signing a contract and have to be basically a celebrity so the stakes are a bit higher.

this is irrelevant to my interests

he's always nice to little kids. but I have noticed a more tolerable tone to him around British people. With Americans he's a little less tolerant.

I think Jamie Pugh will kill Susan Boyle's chances. But that 17-year old with the 100-yr old Blues singer voice will probably get all the votes on Saturday.

Also, as dance acts go, Diversity was pretty kick ass.

2009-05-26 08:28:44 AM
Well now, they seemed tolike hiom very much. The kids was good and you could see his love for dance shine through.

Simon lately has been much kinder and more easily impressed this season.

My impression on Aiden was that what he did he did very well. Good rhythm and control. But he's only 11 and I get the sense his dance knowledge is a bit limited. Let's not make him out to be something he's not yet. Good luck to him. He's doing this out of passion and that always comes across well.

So one day he'll day grow up to be a backup dancer and father Hannah Montannah's kids.

There's worse ways to go through life I suppose.

Nah, she has got a career no matter what, and not a crappy one. Broadway/West End will snatch her up for something if the movies don't get her first. She reminds me of Marni Nixon, who did the actual singing in My Fair Lady, The King and I, etc. any movie that featured a lot of music with an actress who fit the part but couldn't sing. She could do that in a heartbeat, and then have a normal singing career as well.

I guess if you are really into the popping stuff, that was good. I don't know, it didn't blow me away though.

I thought this group was much better for overall dancing and more creative, and they are going to the final along with Susan:

Diversity (new window)

2009-05-26 10:21:27 AM
Oh noes. Snap, Crackle, and Pop-N-Lock are posing a threat to Susan Boyle!

Er... well, maybe not. He's good - he's really very good - but I don't think he's got a chance against her.

2009-05-26 10:35:14 AM
I hope a car hits Susan Boyle and gives her minor injuries so I never have to hear of her again. This kid was good, for being 11. Britain's Got Talent is staged. I mean the judges and the idiots backstage give the camera the most fake facial expressions. Simon Cowell is the only reason I would ever watch American Idol clips. People would come on stage thinking they were awesome and he would rip them to shreds. On BGT he always seems like the good guy as stated above, which makes me further question the credibility any of these shows has to offer.

Randy Jackson is my hero.

Toprock is part of breakdancing. What he was doing is a subset of toprock. Do I have to draw a Venn diagram?

I'm not down with whoring out little kids so they can grow up to be pretentious pampered twats.

Let's see how the fella is after his balls drop.

The kid is great,
but he is not as emotionally inspiring as Boyle.

As a dancer, his options are limited in the market,
she has much more available to her over a longer period of time.

What is the deal with cutting to those two douchebags backstage?

Not ugly enough to win, unfortunately.

American's love violence and douchebaggery so he has to play that side up for the American audience.

ABQGOD: What is the deal with cutting to those two douchebags backstage?

They are some sort of stars in Britain (Ant and Dec), with little to no name recognition here in the states.

But, they did the same thing here with "America's Got Talent", cutting 2-3 times to show us whatever host Jerry Springer was fawning about backstage.

2009-05-26 01:13:18 PM
Does anyone else besides me get tired of Susan Boyle? Honestly if they want a singing competition just make it British Idol. Diversity is much better and if we wanted to argue talent I would wager that just about everyone in that group has the talent to be there on their own.

2009-05-26 01:36:20 PM
Thanks, Ishkur, I learned something really cool today. I like your explanations, makes it real easy for me to actually see the difference!

Susan Boyle, even in a still photo, looks like a slow-motion car crash

I can't wait to see his second round performance.

Aiden II: Electric Boogaloo

That kid is going to be swimming in poon (or weiner, if he prefers) in a few years.

Nice keffiyeh he's wearing there.

Christian Bale

Wiki states that breakdancing is made up of elements of toprock, downrock, freezes, and powermoves.

Seems to me that, without any of the others, all he is doing is toprock. Add in something else, and you have breakdancing.

Kinda like when you're brewing beer. If all you're doing is soaking and heating malted barley, then you're just making porridge. Add in some lautering, boiling, and fermenting, then you're making beer.

Holy shiat! you the real Ishkur? (yes yes I know what it say in your profile) if so thank you for your guide to electronic music. absolutely brilliant work as well as your tshirt selection :)
