Reporter to William Ford current chief of FMC, "So Mr. Ford what do you think of the job Jim Oconnor is doing?"

Bill Ford: "Who?"...."Oh yeah, he's one of the best janitors we've ever had"

The Tarus comes with a glove box full of pre-printed recall notices.

The only reasons Ford and GM sell anything are: 1/ Fleet sales are under pressure to buy 'American'. 2/ FMCC and GMAC will finance anyone who can write their name.

If Ford only made something like the Prius. It is the nicest family car.
2003-02-14 04:56:34 PM
I've owned a 89 Toyota truck for 4 years, ended up with 350,000 miles on it, and spent about $1575 in repairs on it.

I now own a Ford Explorer, had it for a year, only has 93,000 miles on it, and I've already spent about $3500 on it. I hate it and wish it would explode into a fiery catyclism.

I want my Toyota back.

Now if AOL will finally admit that DSL and Cable are better products the circle will be complete.

Not that I think that Mr. O'Connor reads Fark, but if he does, I'd be happy to help him update his resume!

2003-02-14 04:57:26 PM
Never have owned an American car, never will own an American car...unless they stop building really really shiatty cars in America that is.
2003-02-14 04:57:38 PM
Sorry, I keep getting a FARK is down error.
2003-02-14 04:58:00 PM
Its true. Fords arent that hot. They have a tendency to fall apart, they may be more powerful, but they have low durability.
2003-02-14 04:58:21 PM

American cars suck ass.

My Toyota 4Runner is headed towards 80,000 miles without ever neeeding a single repair shop visit. I haven't even needed to replace the the brake pads. I'll be getting a new one when the 2004's come out.

Ford has issued a recall because some cars explode upon refueling. Quality is job one. Job two is building cars that explode.

"Brilliant Ford executive explains why Toyota outsells Ford - they're better"

For some reason, I'd think this woman might disagree...

The Taurus is a pile, my boss had one and it broke down monthly.

This guy must be shooting for a job at the new Toyota plant

When I was growing up I always swore that I'd buy American, my first car was a Pontiac--a total dog. My next car was a Honda Civic...7 years later I've never had to do anything more than the scheduled maintenance.

When the Civic finally dies I think I'll try an Accord on for size.

Um, Ford has like 5 vehicles in the top ten best selling in America. Toyota has one. I think Ford has the last laugh.
2003-02-14 05:02:36 PM
Fords are built in Mexico and Toyotas are made in America

I sold my toyota corolla and got an 02 mercury cougar. Before that I drove a camery. I've been really happy with it. The only other car that it was in the running with was the tibberon (i wanted: v6, front or awd (snow, bad), 2 door, less than 20k loaded). The tiberon felt way too 'cheap', even the new ones. There were no reported oil leaks in the engine it has for the first 3 years of it's production, which is great for any auto maker. I got a 5 year/100k mile warenty too. It handles great. It could use a bit more power, and the interior could have been a bit more refined, but overall I'm happy with it.

I will admit, the taurus suck. It looks stupid, and it drives like crap. The only car ford makes worse than it is the focus. I had one of those for a loaner when I was getting my cougar's underbody rustproofed. It drove like a cardboard box. I really feared for my life in it.

I love my Tacoma. Toyota rules!

Well, the Japanese got this far with a simple tactic that has served them for decades and weakens the resolve of the enemy. They accomplish this with compliments we American have grown fond of.

American men, so big! Japanese men, so small!
2003-02-14 05:05:51 PM
Most American cars either suck greatly, and the ones that only suck a little are jacked up in price so high that you could buy a German car for the same money.
2003-02-14 05:05:51 PM
The only problem with the Toyota trucks before 1989 was rust. GOD I miss my 89 Toyota. I remember pulling a 1 ton out of a muddy ditch once with my little 4 cylinder.
2003-02-14 05:05:53 PM
The scary thing is Toyota would sell even better if their commercials didn't all suck.

I had a rental Taurus once. A Gremlin or Pacer would have a better ride. Taurus = Dookie.

For all you american cars suck ass people...Ive had a ton of cars (finally just bought my first new one, an american car). Most of them were american, a few were asian.

It was my experience that an asian car will run longer, if you maintain it exquisitly. When stuff does break though, it costs you twice as much to fix. (example, 700 bucks for a new clutch in my honda, vs 400 in my mustang).

So yea, if you are one of those people who get your oil changed every 3k like clockwork, and baby your car, go ahead and pay an inflated price for a japanese car with no pickup. If you aren't anal retentive, your better off in the long run with american.

Thank God I had the foresight to buy a buttload of Ford shares...a week before the tire scandal broke. I've pretty much lost about 65% of what I put in. Every time I hear the name Ford I cringe a little more. Bastards.
2003-02-14 05:09:20 PM
But what the chicks really dig is a bigass spoiler that's taller and more expensire than the Honda Civic it's attached to.
2003-02-14 05:09:55 PM
a fellow 02 cougar owner, rock on man. Mine just turned a year old, only problem I have had was my passenger side doorhandle jammed up on me, which was my fault.

great car.
2003-02-14 05:11:20 PM
Ford Explorer, 1996, 130,000 miles, still runs great...but I'm lucky..Ford sucks mostly....
2003-02-14 05:11:35 PM
I owned a Honda Accord for several years. Best damn I car I owned. Only needed gas, oil, tires, and brakes. Now I own a Honda motorcycle as a daily driver.

My Chevy Lumina sits in the driveway. On a quiet night, you can hear it rust.
