sheeeaaat, man, I probably spent half that on alcohol before I turned 19

2003-02-13 10:33:14 PM
the trick (wink, wink) is to not (wink, wink) pay for it(wink, wink).

have someone else buy it for you.

Hello obvious tag

2003-02-13 11:21:29 PM
have someone else buy it for you.

This doesn't really work as well for males. However, the tactic works quite well for women. Can't imagine why...

2003-02-13 11:22:20 PM
Scary no.
Obvious yes.

2003-02-13 11:22:23 PM
Considering how bad the economy is, these slackers aren't doing nearly their share to spend us to prosperity.

2003-02-13 11:22:31 PM
Obvious solution is to lower the drinking age.

2003-02-13 11:22:51 PM
Funny. Today in my 12th grade electronics class, the teacher (also a chemistry teacher) gave a few of my friends a detailed explanation on how to distill grain alcohol.

2003-02-13 11:23:36 PM
WHats so scary about this? In Europe id assume people below 21 account for billions more in alcohol consumption. ONly soultion is to make the drinking age 18

2003-02-13 11:23:52 PM
It's easy to buy that much booze when the little bastards are buying it with counterfeit $20 bills.

2003-02-13 11:23:54 PM
Hey, I'm just doing my part to stimulate the economy!

2003-02-13 11:23:57 PM
It's estimated that alcohol is implicated in half of all serious injuries and deaths of young people.

They say this like it's a bad thing.

2003-02-13 11:24:02 PM
Candypants- I spent the other half!

2003-02-13 11:24:23 PM
where has this idiot been?

2003-02-13 11:24:40 PM
Holy crap! Now I can make my 8,6, and 4 year olds ante up and buy my Gordons! Sweet! My kids will pay for my booze!

2003-02-13 11:25:10 PM
Yeah who the hell paid for liqour when they were 15? We just had the dumb/crazy kid in the group go steal it.

2003-02-13 11:25:37 PM
Yes we do. Your point?

2003-02-13 11:25:40 PM
Scary? More like Obvious. Hell it would be 2 billion but the squirts don't make enough cabbage working the fry machine at McDonalds to afford the expensive stuff like Bud Light.

Mmmmmm, let's here it for Milwalkee's Best, Peel's, Natural Light, and Schlitz!

2003-02-13 11:26:13 PM
Well, I think I fourth that OBVIOUS.

2003-02-13 11:26:39 PM
I gotta say, I am definitely NOT underage, and were it true, in some wierd twisted way, that I was under-age, me and my friends are DEFINITELY in no way whatsoever putting the Indian families daughter through college withe the alcohol we buy at the Shell down the street.

2003-02-13 11:27:07 PM
Mmmmmm, let's here it for Milwalkee's Best, Peel's, Natural Light, and Schlitz!

And don't forget Blatz...the creators of the "Blatz Splatz"!

2003-02-13 11:28:19 PM
my parents let me drink at 18. They figured if I could go fight and die in a war I ought to be able to have a beer.

I don't know if they would have approved of me taking shots of Two Fingers Tequila off of freshmen chicks, but that's a different story.

2003-02-13 11:28:25 PM
sadly, none of that is my money

dec 24, 2003, i turn 21... are bars open on xmas eve and christmas?

2003-02-13 11:29:43 PM
i could go for a Boulevard Wheat Beer right now...

2003-02-13 11:29:45 PM
(me, back in 1982, as a 17-year old, wearing braces, no less): "Can I have a rum and coke?"

(extremely hairy bartender): mrff. [hands drink to kid]

(me, voice cracking): thank you.

2003-02-13 11:30:19 PM
Ricardobaltazar

You are doing us a real service in this time of need

*thumbs up*

2003-02-13 11:31:13 PM
Well, if you're old enough to get drafted, I say drink anyway!

2003-02-13 11:31:58 PM
That's the "untapped" economy boost that this country needs!

/being cynical

Seriously,I probably spent a lot of beer money between 18-21,and everything came out in the wash. I'm 41 now. Everything's cool.

2003-02-13 11:33:11 PM
I wonder how much teen money is spent every year on optimistic condoms. Guys, you know what I'm talking about. That condom that was in your wallet so long that it petrified.

2003-02-13 11:34:01 PM
30 bucks this week, not too bad
although i once did 90 in one night in underage drinking
i passed out in some restroom somewhere. hmm why do I do this?

2003-02-13 11:35:48 PM
Wow, I bet we account for a good 80% of that alone, not to mention the trillions we spend when we go over the border to Juarez, Mexico, AKA "the land where everyone's legal".

2003-02-13 11:35:49 PM
(me, 18, tuesday night in a tight tank top and low cut jeans): I'd like a rum and coke and a pitcher of Bud Light please.

(bartender): Stamp?

(me, thinking, FCUK, to 21 year old next to me): Can you get that for me?

(guy nods to bartender. bartender gives me the damn drinks.)

And that is how they make their money on underage drinkers.

2003-02-13 11:39:50 PM
Buy some beer for me. Support underage alcoholics anonymous!

2003-02-13 11:39:50 PM
these laws are gay. im 20 yr. old. i went to Europe last year (i was 19 back then) and its no big deal there. high school kids in the center of the city having a brew. legal drinking age is 18 but they dont even enforce it. it was civilized. nobody getting piss drunk, they were just chilling. so i sat down and had a beer with them.

2003-02-13 11:43:42 PM
It's called college.

2003-02-13 11:43:58 PM
I like this thread.

2003-02-13 11:44:15 PM
I have to quit drinking before I'm 21, otherwise that is money down the shiiaater...

Buy some beer for me. Support underage alcoholics anonymous!

yes yes yes...

2003-02-13 11:47:34 PM
OK, I think 1 billion is low personaly. My high school alone drank that much. But with that said ...

How the hell did they get that statistic? If they don't produce ID, much less track liqour sales based on age ... ummm ... *cough* BS *cough*

2003-02-13 11:51:31 PM
My question, of course, is how do they know this?

2003-02-13 11:53:57 PM
the question is not "how do they know this"

they can sit back and go "prove we're wrong"

neener neener neener

2003-02-13 11:54:33 PM
it does sounds low though, by about two orders of magnitude.

2003-02-13 11:55:42 PM
Tinymouse, that is a very good point, but I think, like many stats used in the media, it is extrapolated from data acquired incidental to liquor sales. As such, is probably accurate, but needs to be qualified as being extrapolated from other data.

2003-02-13 11:56:51 PM
Yep, nothing like buying a case of Olympia because it's cheaper than Coke.

As for the figure, I'm sure some chucklehead extrapolated it from a statistic based on short-term anecdotal data. How would they know, really?

2003-02-13 11:58:14 PM
When I was 19 we used to pay our rent having keg parties. Dropped three hundred bucks on half kegs of Icehouse and grocery store brand schnapps. Got back about seven hundred bucks. Paid off landlord for damage to house in one dollar bills. Used the rest to replace the tv that some dumbass put his head through.

2003-02-14 12:02:25 AM
great, so now they charge the beer companies a fee because kids are dumb, and then the beer people are forced to raise the price of their products. nice. how about charging the irresponsible parents of the kids caught drinking a fee instead?

That's all?

2003-02-14 12:05:11 AM
Yeah, $1B is a bit low. But most of it comes from horny old guys trying to get into the panties of some young honey. Not that I'd know anything about that.

2003-02-14 12:07:53 AM
Girls have it easy. If you're an underage guy, you've got to supply the town drunk with a pint for every fifth he buys you.

2003-02-14 12:12:17 AM
Ah. It's been so long since I've enjoyed an afternoon devoted to wrangling someone over 21 and getting them to buy a 40oz of Olde English. Truly the drink of kings.
