Yes, Dick. That conspiracy is called the Democratic Party.

It's the thing that got voted into office, because people lost faith in your party to lead their way out of a wet paper bag.

The GOP is the largest group of conspiracy theorists on the planet. Listening to my conservative relatives talk, at this point, sounds a lot like listening to 9/11 truthers.

It's the GOP vs the liberals, the scientists, the elitists, europe, the middle east, the media, the unions, historians, education, and every other group on the planet.

So have I, word for word. Reminds me of another phrase you might hear repeated verbatim:

Raymond Shaw is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I've ever known in my life.

/The GOP would like ~23% of the nation to pass the time by playing a game of solitaire.

You know... I've been sitting here for a couple of minutes attempting to come up with some snarky witticism about this statement, but I just can't.

It's hard to stay motivated when the former VP thinks that there's a giant conspiracy when he doesn't get his way. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised however, when his party tried to replace him with someone who thought that media criticism was violating her first amendment rights. (new window)

It truly must be stressful and embarrassing to see the fruition of your life's work and the ideals you held be so strongly challenged and refuted. Also to see the real place you will hold in the history books.

The former Vice President characterized the Iranian goal in negotiations on ending that country's nuclear program as mere stalling for time, and the Europeans as trying to "restrain the U.S." from military action.

"Everybody's in a giant conspiracy to achieve a different objective than the one we want to achieve," Cheney said.

The negotiations are "bound to fail unless we are perceived as very credible" in threatening military action against Iran, he said.

"Most of the other nations out there are willing to live with a nuclear-armed Iran" he said, citing France, Germany and the United Kingdom in particular.

The "Everybody" is clearly referring to the Iranians and Europeans. Whether you agree with that or not, it's an at least plausible take on what's happening, and those equating Cheney with truthers are just demonstrating what jackasses they are.

But so many lefties are so batshiat crazy with hatred for Cheney that neither facts nor logic stand in the way of bashing him.

Mr. and Ms. Cheney can go out and fight Iran if they want.

And yes, it's everyone else Dick.

Regardless of Iran's intentions, getting Iran to NOT see us as an enemy goes a long way to getting people who would actually listen to us, work with us, to the position of representing Iran. Threatening harsher sanctions, strikes, and outright war only puts them on the defensive.

Cold and alone you arrogant self-righteous individual, cold and alone with peace in the place of your wars.

Christ almighty. I have heard that same phrase from MY right-winger relatives. Once they get a talking point they repeat it verbatim regardless of whether they know what they are talking about it not. It's like they think these statements are self-evident.

These kinds of conservatives would probably do very well in a tribal situation or a very small city-state where everyone is militarized. But in a large, advanced society they seem like a vestigial organ of some kind that contributes very little but occasionally causes problems.

The mob has plans, the cops have plans, Gordon's got plans. You know, they're schemers. Schemers trying to control their little worlds. I'm not a schemer. I try to show the schemers how pathetic their attempts to control things really are. So, when I say... Ah, come here......When I say that you and your girlfriend was nothing personal, you know that I'm telling the truth. It's the schemers that put you where you are. You were a schemer, you had plans, and look where that got you...I just did what I do best. I took your little plan and I turned it on itself. Look what I did to this city with a few drums of gas and a couple of bullets. Hmmm? You know... You know what I've noticed? Nobody panics when things go "according to plan." Even if the plan is horrifying! If, tomorrow, I tell the press that, like, a gang banger will get shot, or a truckload of soldiers will be blown up, nobody panics, because it's all "part of the plan." But when I say that one little old mayor will die, well then everyone loses their minds!"

Because crazy is the only way to describe you mindless agenda driven zealots.

He's claiming that the European governments, in particular the UK, France, and Germany, are willing to live with a nuclear Iran, but rather than upsetting the US and some other countries by saying so they're willing to delay until it becomes a fait accompli. Similar things have gone on in international relations, and unlike the "thousands of squibs planted in the Twin Towers" crap, it is at least possible and plausible.

So yes, equating him with truthers is very inappropriate.

Actually, I've been "aggressively interrogated"

Let me explain what that is. You see, they tie you down in a chair, put a wet towel around your neck so you don't suffer any spinal problems and proceed to beat the living hell out of you to make you tell them whatever they want to know.

All this is done behind a one way mirror with the rest of your class watching, waiting for their turn.

You get 20 minutes or until you break. If you break, you get to try again. You can't pass until you make it the whole 20 minutes.

I think Jon Stewart said it best, when he pointed out that it isn't "tyranny" when the duly elected representatives, that outnumber you, are going forth implementing their policies - even if you happen to disagree with them.

It's simply called "Losing." Something the Democrats did a lot of from 1994 until 2006, and the Republicans weren't used to doing at all. Many of the Republican members of the House had never been in office prior to 1994 and had no idea what it was like to not be able to control the agenda with an iron fist (something Gingrich and DeLay, and yes, Pelosi, are doing). And they don't like it.

The sheer number of Republican retirements from the House and Senate are in large part representative of a party that had forgotten what it was like to not be able to control the agenda of government, and doesn't like it. The fact that the Democrats aren't listening to them, after the Democrats were flat-out ignored from 2000-2006, isn't tyranny or fascism. The fact that the Democrats are stripping away some of their policies, doesn't mean there's a grand conspiracy to destroy America. It's simply that they won.

When things don't make sense- always, follow the money. If you don't see the money, you aren't looking deep enough.

"You can follow the action, which gets you good pictures. You can follow your instincts, which'll probably get you in trouble. Or, you can follow the money, which nine times out of ten will get you closer to the truth. "

I don't care for his politics nor do I care for his stage-character that he plays for votes. But it just disturbs me to see so many people wishing someone, that may or may not be the most vile being in all of the US, death.

someonelse: Purity Of Essence: "We fail to recognize the fact that we're alone out there in terms of trying to achieve the objective of forcing the Iranians to give up their nuclear weapons," Cheney said

I love how he casual posits that such weapons exist. Pretty sneaky, sis.

I noticed that, too. He really is a very accomplished liar, I'll give him that.

Yeah, that's totally Cheney's thing. He did it with Iraq, constantly implying/accidentally saying they had WMDs.

He's doing it now, saying we got awesome intelligence from torture. I'm 99.9999999999999999% certain it will come out that we did not, considering that interrogators who interrogated Zubaydah said they Zubaydah sang like a canary in the first hour, then clammed up upon being tortured. And the guy saying the opposite, Cheney, was thousands of miles away. I tend to trust the testimony of people who were, like, present at things.

And now he's saying Iraq has nuclear weapons.

I can't decide if the man is an evil genius or the most craven coward this nation has ever seen.

Either his genius is helping him to subtly confabulate falsehoods as truths in the public's minds, or his cowardice has him shaking in his boots and pissing his panties so thoroughly that his paranoid craven delusions find form in those falsehoods.

Considering his 5 Vietnam deferments, and considering he was simultaneously a strong supporter of the Vietnam War, I'm going to go with cowardice.

Cheney likes to send other people to their deaths, and torture people, but he is too weak to do either himself.

Nothing Sweeter Than Redneck Tears: the israel factor

I think the difference is that Iran kicked the Shah out and Pakistan sucked on Uncle Sam's thorny schlong throughout the cold war.

Israel would love to bomb the crap out of Pakistani nuke factilities but we make them off limits. We deal with them so the Isreali's don't have to. But neither the US or Isreal has a good relationship with Iran. But the Europeans have a better relationship than anyone else with credibility. We don't like anyone having leverage over us and Europe has leverage when it comes to talking with Iran. Iran already has leverage with oil, them having nukes gives them more leverage. Cheney doesn't give a shiat about whether Iran actually has a nuke he doesn't want to give them anymore rope to hang us with.

Quite honestly if we supplied the majority of our own energy we couldn't care less if Iran had nukes. We would only make sure that they wouldn't have anyone that they want to use them on.

Considering that the objective of his PNAC group was an endless series of wars to funnel money to his military industrial complex cronies, I am pleased that Cheney considers the objective to have changed.

Cheney was the architect of the failure of both wars that America is now involved in; Bush turned his foreign policy over to him. The result of this failure was to upset the balance of powers in the middle east, an Iranian mole whispering in Cheney's ear could not have done a better job at bringing Iran more power because Cheney's decision making process was so flawed. Now all Cheney has left as an argument is that because of what he did, he kept America safe. This lie is rebutted by former Clinton aide Paul Begala in this article. Link

Cheney is given the benefit of the doubt by most political analysts, who always skirt the issue when it comes to the money factor when discussing the wars of Afghanistan and Iraq. But a logical case for his tactics and political machinations in both wars simply cannot be made; they crumble under the facts. But when you put those same tactics up to the jaded viewpoint that the wars were waged solely to funnel money to his politically leveraged cronies, the logic stands.

It was the biggest criminal act in American history, and the son of a whore got away with it.

what prevents israel from bombing pakistan is the 4,000 miles round trip over Iran. only unarmed heavy bombers like tu-95, b-52, etc. have this kind of autonomy, but they can't go unescorted over hostile territory without fighter escort. now, you try refueling f-15s over iran and pakistan to see what happens with your tankers...

not to mention that this would give iran and pakistan causa belum against BOTH israel and US, since iraq is also on the route and to pass over US controled iraqui air space, israel would need US approval, which would allow pakistan and iran to declare war on both.

Let's make a tally. Who thinks Iran should be denied nuclear weapons, to a great extent because they keep implying they want to *use* nuclear weapons:

The Republicans and Israel.

Okay, now who is either happy with the idea of the Iranians getting nuclear weapons, either because they think it would be neat that Iran had nuclear weapons, that it would teach those damn Joos a lesson, that the Middle East is so far over there that it wouldn't matter if they had a medium sized nuclear war, they are such firm believers in their ability to bullshiat that even though the Iranians had nuclear weapons they could be persuaded to not use them, that it's just better that everybody has nuclear weapons because it's unfair that the evil United States has them and every wack-job dictator on Earth doesn't, or that they hate thinking about it at all because it makes their head hurt?

The Democrats, the Russians, the Syrians, the North Koreans, the Chinese, lots of the Sunni rank and file even though the Sunni leaders are terrified of the idea of Iran getting nukes, and true dumbasses.

A conspiracy of villains, anti-American haters, Democrats, dumbasses, profiteers, bullshiatters, the French, and people who are not only utterly ignorant of history, but proud of the fact.

In other words, Dick Cheney is right.

Keep it coming, GOP. The more you open your fat idiot mouths, the Democrats secure even more political power.

Sure, the Democrats can be idiots too, but the Republicans seem to stumble a bit more in the process. Especially when they act like a bunch of sore losers whenever a Democrat becomes president. Instead of wasting their time biatching about Obama, they should work on regaining the credibility that Bush pissed away for the last 8 years. Unless Obama really farks up while in office, the old Karl Rove tactics are not going to work anymore for the GOP.

The Republicans either need to learn to adapt with the changing political climates or GTFO. For starters, I suggest ditching the Bible beaters and going back to traditional conservatism. If they focused more on actual personal freedom and smaller government, I would actually consider voting GOP for once. Until then, I am just going to have to watch my gun rights get farked over in exchange for having the government stay secular and stay the fark out of my bedroom.

What_do_you_want_now: To be honest, I personally don't care if Dick lives or dies, my life will not change anymore than it has.

But it does disturb me to see everyone wishing his death. I'm going to bet that none of you personally met the man. for all you know he could be the best beer-drinkin' buddy you'll ever know (just don't go hunting with him). From what I could tell, he does like to poke fun at himself, hell, he posed for a Texas Monthly Magazine with a shotgun in his hand under the title "Buy this magazine or Dick Cheney will shoot you".

I don't care for his politics nor do I care for his stage-character that he plays for votes. But it just disturbs me to see so many people wishing someone, that may or may not be the most vile being in all of the US, death.

/carry on with the snark, just felt like saying something

Ummm... I hate to tell you this about your fun guy with a great sense of humor, but he didn't pose for that cover and that magazine Texas Monthly, is not what I'd call, "friendly" to the former administration.

Yeah, it is really unfortunate there's this massive conspiracy of citizens from every walk of life set against this tiny cabal of neocon intellectuals who infiltrated the highest seats of power in the country. How unfair.

whammer: Let's make a tally.

Yes, because there can be no middle ground. You can't possibly wish to deny Iran nuclear weapons without blowing the fark out of Tehran.

As someone who minored in history and political science, I would argue that those "ignorant of history" are the people who support getting mired in unending war in the Middle East and unilaterally abandoning all semblance of diplomacy.

Republicans want to fight World War II again with extremist Muslims in the role of the Nazis. Sorry, it won't work that way. This is a new conflict with virtually no resemblance to your concept of a war with clear goals and clear enemies.

Winning this conflict in the long run will be more about diplomacy and world politics than storming a beach or dropping laser guided bombs (although we may have to do a bit of that too). Since diplomacy and world politics are the domain of the grown-ups, you kids with your firecrackers can go outside and blow up anthills while we try to fix this mess you've only been making worse.

What_do_you_want_now: Successful troll is successful.

You political folks are way too easy.

Holy shiat you really are clever, that was the funniest thing I've ever read. I'm absolutely stunned by your razor edged wit.
