... what are 4 of the stupidest nicknames for grown men to have?

Nobody calls Dirk "D-Nitz." He's just Dirk.

Also, congrats to everyone except Dwy-ane Wade. He sucks.

I don't hate "D-Nitz." It's kind of funny. I'm also partial to "The Dirkinator."

He has been so good this season, and I don't think anyone other than Mavs fans have noticed.

Correction. Dirk is -irk (No D). If you must, you can call him "The Diggler."

You sound like a still bitter Mavs fan. I thought most of you had gotten over it while watching the Olympics. He's sublime to watch when he's not taking apart your team.

2009-05-13 04:16:17 PM
I'm somewhat surprised, given everything he did to make the Nuggets into a winner, that Chauncey Billups only made the third team.

Dwayne Wade does not suck Di! Hes Tony Romoesque if you will.

tnpir: I'm somewhat surprised, given everything he did to make the Nuggets into a winner, that Chauncey Billups only made the third team.

The Nuggets weren't exactly a terrible team before he got there or anything. He certainly doesn't belong ahead of anyone that was above him.

tnpir: I'm somewhat surprised, given everything he did to make the Nuggets into a winner, that Chauncey Billups only made the third team.

For All NBA? Sure, he deserved to be where he was.

IMHO, he deserves to be higher than 11-15 on the MVP list, though.

2009-05-13 04:40:52 PM
Dwyane Wade: terrible until this season when I happened to wind up with him on my fantasy team. Then I grew to love him.

Until his coach decided he could have the day off in the little extra week of fantasy finals, which helped prevent me from competing...up until that point I was leading with every category being within 10 or so.

Prior to the trade, I think it was more of Allen Iverson was dragging them down...

Shaq made third team? Legacy pick. Chauncy is about right.
SOmeone should tell LeBron that he should not avg top 10 in assists. He is a SG mentality, position of SF, but built like a power forard and has assists like a PG.

/didn't notice, personally

Gunny Highway: No PG on the first team?

It is two guards, two forwards. They don't get into points, smalls, powers, etc. Like the all star game.

2009-05-13 04:54:11 PM
no Matt Bonner? what a joke...

2009-05-13 04:55:46 PM
Resin33: It is two guards, two forwards. They don't get into points, smalls, powers, etc. Like the all star game.

Alright. I guess that would be hard. Seems strange though considering the league seems to have a large crop of really good PGs. I guess I cant argue too much with the team they selected.

2009-05-13 04:59:00 PM
Swedgin: Correction. Dirk is -irk (No D)

Really? He's had 91 rebounds during this year's playoffs, 82 of which were defensive. By comparison, LeBron James has had 78 (69 defensive), Kobe has had 51 rebounds (45 defensive), and your lil buddy Dwy-ane Wade has had 35 (31 defensive). So sure, Dirk doesn't play defense. You're totally right.

Swedgin: You sound like a still bitter Mavs fan.

Wow. Brilliant observation there, Columbo.

vinnydoz007: Dwayne Wade does not suck Di! Hes Tony Romoesque if you will.

*Gasp!* Don't you dare ever compare those two ever again! I thought we were pals, Vinny! PALS!

Yeah, but the superstar guards are mostly SGs.

Posting TOTAL rebounds isn't exactly the best way to support an argument, since all the players you mentioned have played in a different number of total games this postseason.

You're better suited to use rebounds per game (RPG). I've taken the liberty of doing this for you.

Dirk - 10.1 RPG
LeBron - 9.8 RPG
Kobe - 5.1 RPG
Wade - 5.0 RPG

PS - there is much more to playing defense than grabbing rebounds.

Uh ... you know defensive rebounds aren't really a measure of whether someone plays good defense or not?

League mandates are more important than assists, sadly. And the league has decided that Dwyeayuawn and Rape are the best guards.

MarkKetch: since all the players you mentioned have played in a different number of total games this postseason.

Those are the other players named to the team. But you're right RPG would be a better number to use.

MarkKetch: there is much more to playing defense than grabbing rebounds.

Well, duh. I know that. But defensive rebounding is an easy number to pull and shows that Dirk does indeed play defense.

2009-05-13 05:12:18 PM
Dirk is the token white guy.

Again, easy stat to pull. So which numbers would you look at to see whether someone plays good defense or not?

You'll always have Mark Cuban playing the dozens with K-Mart's mom.

Di Atribe: Again, easy stat to pull. So which numbers would you look at to see whether someone plays good defense or not?

Defensive rebounds have little to nothing to do with how you play defense.

Also, Kobe and Wade are SGs, LeBron is a SF; Dirk is a 7' tall PF/C. He's going to have more rebounds by virtue of his position (closer to the basket).

I'm not saying he's not a top player; just that that's a horrible stat to use.

2009-05-13 05:21:16 PM
BTW, I remember fondly seeing a bunch of box scores that read something like this for Wade:

30 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, 4 steals, 3 blocks.

That's getting it done all around.

THEN WHICH STAT WOULD YOU USE?

I've only got so much to go off of here... and it's better than just going back and forth with "nuh uh...." "yuh huh...."

Dude said Dirk didn't play D. Except Dirk does play D. Is that a convincing argument to you or would you rather I go look up some numbers in regards to defensive play?

Dirk's stat line from Sunday night:

44 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 1 block

So I guess he gets it done all around, too.

Defense is a thing. Individuals can be great defenders but you are only as good as the guys behind you.

Here are the defensive stats from this year. Outside of the Heat every other players team is in the top 10 this season.

Link Check this out too. It is pretty interesting. They have Kobe ranked lowest of the guys on the first team.

2009-05-13 05:42:00 PM
Di Atribe: THEN WHICH STAT WOULD YOU USE?

I don't want to pull them, since I don't really care - but you could look at RPG along with steals, ooponent FG% (based on the person they were guarding most) - also look at who they are assigned to guard, and also throw blocks in there - that is probably a strong start

2009-05-13 05:44:03 PM
Gunny Highway: - or you can just look at what he posted

2009-05-13 05:45:05 PM
not that i watch the Rogue Cows a lot but Dirk isn't a consistently good one-on-one defender. he's not very adept at guarding the post, iirc.

back in 04/05 he averaged 1.5 blocks, 1.2 steals, and 9.7 rebounds a game. that's pretty good, but stat-wise it's been downhill from there. for his career he's averaging about a block, a steal, and over 8 rebounds... but he's also seven feet tall.

basically what i'm trying to say is that Mark Cuban sucks and is single-handedly destroying the NBA... and America.

2009-05-13 05:53:37 PM
p the boiler: Gunny Highway: - or you can just look at what he posted

Or you can notice that MarkKetch already posted RPG's and I already acknowledged that that was a better stat.

I realize defense is a thing. I understand that. But I can't "show" you anything but numbers to show his overall defensive performance.

Gunny Highway: Link Check this out too. It is pretty interesting. They have Kobe ranked lowest of the guys on the first team.

That's an interesting stat, but it's from 2007.

Huh. Would ya look at that? Indiana still has a team.

I'm still blaming Tim Duncan's empty eyes and alien face. Oh and you smell like feet.

Di Atribe: That's an interesting stat, but it's from 2007.

Oops my fault.

I think it is telling that is hard to find individual defensive statistics. Like I said earlier, you can be a good defender but you are only as good as the other 4 guys on the floor. They have an all defensive team Im pretty sure. The NBA has an emphasis on offense and this team shows that.

2009-05-13 06:05:43 PM
2008-2009

First team all defense
Dwight Howard, Orlando
Kobe Bryant, LA Lakers
LeBron James, Cleveland
Chris Paul, New Orleans
Kevin Garnett, Boston

Second team all defense
Tim Duncan, San Antonio
Dwyane Wade, Miami
Rajon Rondo, Boston
Shane Battier, Houston
Ron Artest, Houston

Defensive Rating (LeBron 89, Dirk 109 with lower numbers being better) and Defensive Win Shares (LBJ 1, Dirk 0.3) are a good start.

2009-05-13 06:10:24 PM
Gunny Highway: Here are the defensive stats from this year. Outside of the Heat every other players team is in the top 10 this season.

You have it ranked by rebounds. Miami is, however, in the top 5 in steals and blocks (thanks in large part to Wade's being the best in the NBA for a SG at steals (2nd overall) and best in the NBA for a SG at blocks (by over half a block per game, and was 16th OVERALL in the NBA in blocks/game...as a 6-4 SHOOTING GUARD)).

In fact, Howard is the only player on the first team with more blocks per game than Wade. No one has more steals. Di, I'm tellin' ya, if you happened to miss your fantasy draft and wound up with Wade on your team, you'd love the guy. Dirk should be getting 10 rebounds a game easily just by being 7 feet tall and playing on the inside.

2009-05-13 06:14:48 PM
IAmRight: You have it ranked by rebounds

Well my stats blow and I am sheepishly back out of this one.

My posts in this thread = OKC Thunder this season.

How does this deserve a HERO tag? And how did it beat out the OBVIOUS tag? Can someone explain this to me.

Gunny Highway: Well my stats blow and I am sheepishly back out of this one.

stats are fine. 82games is nice, it just takes forever to get new stuff from 'em.

I have no issue with the all-NBA selections, except maybe a bit of jostling of positions. Pau Gasol, for example, should be 2nd team, while Paul Pierce, should be 3rd Team. I'm shocked at the absence of Ray Allen.

But Yeah, If you took these 15 guys around the world, you might win a few pickup games.
