hockeychick: Not exactly a threadjack, but somewhat related:

In the last 6 months we're getting all kinds of collection calls for someone who must have had our phone number before we did. He apparently was a bad boy and has racked up quite a bit of debt. We've had our number for 10 years now so I'm not sure how these debt collectors are getting our number. I've tried getting phone numbers and addresses of these places to send certified cease and desist letters and complaints to the FTC, but the only numbers I get are "private caller" and no one will give me an address. Any idea how I can stop them? They're calling every day starting in around 7am central and it's getting annoying.

Tell them: I am legally informing you that you are only allowed to contact me through mail, lawyer etc... you are NOT required to provide them with an address either since they should have it.

Cell phone
landline
MagicJack (one month old)

Gotten calls on all of them. Probably 100+. Recently, I've started playing a little (bored on a thursday nite). Fake car, fake name, fake street...we got all the way to the money portion..30 minutes...$2700 for 5 years.
"Ok...who do I write in for the 'electronic check?"
'AutoOne Warranty'
"Ok...thanks"

Another tactic is talk for a little bit...."Hey...hang on a sec" put the phone down. come back 15 mins later..."Hello?"

or

[after 15 mins of bullshiat] "You do realize that I have no intention of actually buying anything from you, and the only reason I'm talking to you is so that you won't bother some other poor slob at dinnertime! YOU ASSHAT!"

Based in Irvine, CA.
Their website (new window)
And google map of their place.

/yeah, i was bored
//my goal is to make their caller rep cry on the phone
///next time I will offer 'her' a (non-existent) job as a secretary "Wow, you have a nice phone voice!"

Rodddxl: You are probably aware of it. It's called the Democrat Party.

Goddammit, I wasted my time with a partisan hack. That alone means the dittohead wins.

I got one of these calls while on the road. I pulled over and answered the phone, went on to talk to someone. I waited until I was already talking and then SHRIEKED into the phone. I heard the guy on the line curse before he disconnected.

/Think foghorn level sound.
//They have yet to call back...

I've been waiting for this call for a while...

I have to plans of action, but I'm not sure which I want to implement first:

1. "Now, you said this is my final notice... Every time I answer the phone, it is always the "Final Notice"... Is it really "final" if each successive call is the "final" call? You keep using that word, but I don't think it means what you think it means...

2. (in my best Old Lady/Minnesoooooota accent): Oooh, thank you fer callin' me up an' tellin' me about this here warranty. Ever since my Bert died, I've had some trouble keeping track of these things... Oh, he was so precious, Lord, my Bert. He'd always be out tinkerin' in the garage with somethin-or-other... I remember one time back in '62, I was bringin' Bert a beer out to the garage, and I walked in and there's Bert, jerkin' his gherkin if ya know what I mean... Ohhh, Lordie, those were such good times... Oh, I'm sorry to be takin' up yer time... Now, what do I need to tell you to get me one of them warranties?....... What kind of car do I have? Gee, I don't know... Bert usually took care of these things for me... Willya hold on the line while I go outside and check? ......(Wait a few minutes)...... Hello? Yes, Hello? Gee, I don't know... Well, it's yellow, does that help? What year is it? Oh, gosh... Bert would whoop my behind until I couldn't sit if he knew that I couldn't tell you this...

I want to see how long I can keep them going before I run out of patience and/or time. I figure if I can keep going on in that confused old lady voice for an hour or so, I should be all set. And, if it's true that they won't hang up if they think you're old and feeble, then I am going to have tremendous fun with this.

/Also wants to get an air horn and blow it off in the receiver

simpsonfan: Neither my 1965 Ford or my dad's 1932 Ford have had warranties for decades. Mine has almost 300,000 miles on it, due to constant care. I haven't actually been broken down in years.

Replace that car with a modern crapmobile? Those warranties will be worthless when the company goes bankrupt. Not that I would even WANT a new car. Another car maybe, just saw a nice 1952 Ford.

Your car is producing the air pollution of about a hundred of those modern crapmobiles, if not more. Thanks.

Looking close, it looks like it only covers parts that hardly ever break. Not worthwhile, even if it were legit!
