Well one day Dubya's huntin for a war
But first he needs a little support
So out in the press comes a terrorist alert
Orange that is, high risk
Well next thing you know CNN's panicing with flair
Tellin all the folks time to stock up and let go of your sanity
Emergency kits, duct tape, batteries
(Sung to the tune of Beverly Hillbillies)

Ok this is bad, but it's off the top of my head.

Nice gesture, but I doubt the next attack will come from the air.

Fab5freddy,

Oh, so when the short-range missile in DC shoots the plane a mile or so away, the plane will turn around, fly to pennsylvania and crash in a field. Thanks for clearing that up.

So we have Stinger launch vehicles in D.C. Since North Korean missiles can't reach that far, and Iraq has no ICBM's or long range bombers, and neither do Al-Quada, I guess their sole purpose is to shoot down any air liner that gets hyjacked. How fun. Not that Stingers would be effective against other missiles, they would need Patriots, or those missiles the Navy uses on their Aegis cruisers. And I'm not sure if those could stop a ballistic missile.

Avixxen2, Maybe I should take all of that plastic and wrap my house with it. It would be really fun to watch the nosey neighbors follow suit. After all this is Bumpkinville, the local gossip is gosphel around here. They'd just assume that I knew something they didn't.

Hell, I didn't even know my wife & I were getting a divorce until someone at the post office told me we were. I guess that's what we get for arguing with a window open.

I grew up in the early days of the cold war. When it was too cold for recess we got to watch filmstrips of how awful the commie hoard was.

I remember seeing the military vehicles run around the citys, soldiers on the street corners with rifles, people having to present papers for inspection. They told us how the people were being fed propoganda to instill a fear of the US and democracy, how they were afraid to speak their mind because the phones, workplaces and even home might be bugged, how people were accused of crimes and lead away never to be heard from again, how the leaders in power kept their power by keeping the people afraid of the government and afraid of the rest of the world.

Oh, how times change.

43% pretty much rebutted the whole 'when have they prevented terrorist attacks' question...but I'll expound a wee bit: the only thing they would have had on the hijackers from 9-11 prior to 9-11 would have been flight-lessons and a few expired visas. INS has rounded up how many people here on expired/nonexistent visas? Remember Padilla? Anyone remember the cell they broke apart in Buffalo?

Those aren't just anti-aircraft batteries, friends. They will also shoot down incoming nuclear missiles.

Stingers? Shoot down incomming nuclear missiles? Dream on... if an attacker used a cruisemissile, maybe, but the words 'nuclear missiles' is traditionaly used to refer to ballistic weapons.

And face it people - a Stinger won't even put a dent in an incomming RV, much less get close enought to try.

UrinalPooper Don't forget arrests for visa violations. Has anyone tried to maintain a visa? Do you know the red tape and paperwork involved? I'm not a bit surprised half the people here on visas are in some type of violation. I found a clause where I had to report to INS that I had changed banks.

Ash216 How'd it go with the other "company"?

That should the "the other company"

43% Guess what man, I just prevented five separate terrorist attacks this hour. Make that six. Lucky I was around, eh?

Oh wait, now I've prevented seven!

Evidence? Oh, well, that's top secret. But mark my words, something terrorist-related may or may not happen in the next 500 years, and it'll be a bang up investigative job on my part if it does.

Now it's eight.

Read my comment, Wegan_Warrior. Those ain't stinger missile batteries. They're THAD batteries, theatre air defense. You don't think they've had Stingers for years around D.C.? Puhleeeeeeze.

The only reason we didn't shoot down the airliner heading to the Pentagon was because of the Executive Order signed by Ronald Reagan after the Iranian Airbus disaster in the 80's. No airliner could be shot down without Presidential permission.

President Bush rescinded the order on September 11th when he was on Air Force One. If Beamer and the Let's Roll guys hadn't brought down the airliner in Penn. it would have gone down from friendly fire before it hit the White House. Ugly, but necessary.

Note to self: Don't let the farkers take over the plane. The Air Force has their orders, and a simple math calculation will do: Pennsylvania field versus WTC disaster.

Are you sure? I thought the reason none of the planes were shot down is because there wasn't enough time to.

The level was raised in part because of a high amount of "chatter" being intercepted by intelligence agencies.

Oh sure... he looks innocent, but there's no telling what evil plans are lurking inside that little squirrel brain of his.

ElwoodCuse -- The airliner that went down in Pennsylvania had F-15 chasers closing in. They were within minutes. The passengers on board had been informed of the planes going into the WTC and the Pentagon by family and friends on cell phones -- that's why they rushed the terrorists. There was a lot of chaos going on but there was enough time between the first impact and the Pennsylvania crash to scramble fighters.

If the passengers hadn't taken the plane down, the plane would have been shot down before it reached Washington airspace. With casualties on the ground? I don't know, and I don't like to think about it. Thank God it didn't happen.

So how's that anti-missile laser thing that was covered on here a while back coming?

Ishidan,Big Al:

Who says we are not stil looking for Bin Laden. No mention? I guess I imagined all the press about OBL in the last few days.

Like I said before, just because it isn't on TV doesn't mean it's not happening. If this were a sit-com or made for tv movie, they'd have found him before the 11 oclock news. Bear in mind, they have been looking for him since 1993.

These things take time.

Obviously, but to not even mention him in the State of the Union... nothing in the press about him until this tape was released a few days ago... obviously Bush and his cronies wanted everyone to forget about him and all worry about Saddam.

Hey, Wicked Wanda, if you're still out there... I have egg on my face on this one. The batteries around the Washington Mall are clearly Stinger missile batterie.

I still believe there are THADs in the area, but your original point was correct. Stingers, old and busted but still good, nonetheless.

Trying to stay on topic here, does anyone else wonder why the weapons platform was named "Avenger" when it is a defensive platform with an effective range of 10 kilometers?
