We paid $70 total to see it in IMAX even though only two of us actually give a sh*t about this movie. I hope it delivers.

The fact that you say this with no sense of irony is amusing to me.

Was invited to a sneak last night.

It delivers.

If you're a Trek-nerd, the nods to TOS are frequent and hilarious(down to the foam-looking rocks planetside).

If you're not a Trek-nerd, it's just plain, non-stop action and fun. It never takes itself seriously yet never mocks the original material.

My girlfriend, who barely tolerates my Trek appreciation as it is (TOS, TNG & DS9 on DVD; all the novels; even the ships Playmates made back in the day...and now Diamond select), keeps asking when we're going to see it this weekend. I've been on the fence for weeks, because I do NOT want to be that guy in the audience who keeps saying "oh, this isn't how it should be."

Your post, however, makes me feel a little less reticent.

Guess I'll see it Saturday.

So all the whiny Trekkies who have been posting here on Fark for years about how much this movie will suck and how it's a travesty and how JJ Abrams is a hack and how you're going to wait till it comes out on Netflix, or maybe just wait till it shows up on cable to see it...

You gonna stick to your phasers on that one?

I knew you were lying all along.

All of my Trekkie friends STILL have a wait-and-see attitude, even though RottenTomatoes.com has it as 94% w/80 reviews. Ebert's the biggest critic, whining about how it doesn't have a heavy-handed messaged like TOS. Everyone else is happy about that fact.

My fiancée and I are seeing it tonight. I'm the Trekkie, and she...tolerates it. I showed her the trailer, and she agreed to come see it with me.

I saw it last week in Germany.

It's hot like a warp core breach. I haven't enjoyed a Trek movie this much since the 1980s.

I'm seeing it Saturday. I can't find my stupid TNG medical shirt, or I would wear it. And proudly. This thread pleases me.

I would just like to say Hasbro are a bunch of world class wankers for not re-releasing their Star Trek Micro Machines.

Most of the engineering department of my company is going to see this tomorrow afternoon. There's about 80 of us going. I'm calling it Nerds Day Out.

Well, at the time of the movie, the Klingons were having minor skirmishes with the Federation, so it's natural they would dislike this turn of events.

It wasn't until the Organians intervened that hostilities ceased somewhat, and it wasn't until the destruction of Praxis that a detente was forced, resulting in the Khitomer accords.

Not a Trekkie, but it's been incredibly lucrative(long story) I'm Happy To Say Best Trek Ever. (My bro was trying to figure is this an even or odd Trek Movie?)

Whodat?: I'm seeing it Saturday. I can't find my stupid TNG medical shirt, or I would wear it. And proudly. This thread pleases me.

The question isn't "who owns a TNG costume," since obviously lots of people do. It's not even "who owns a blue-shirt from TNG," because of course we all know about the vibrant Diana Muldaur cosplay scene.

The question is, who owns a TNG blue-shirt and then loses it somehow?!

Let's all have some gagh to celebrate.

I'm the Trekkie in the relationship.

But if it turns out to be a flop, will the official Klingon Empire have any credibility left?

my utorrent is ready, I will see it soon.

No, but obviously whoever took the pic is from the Boston area.

Well you can't have Klingons in these ones... That's when they looked funny you know.

The Klingon Empire has roughly 50 years of life left.

You know, I gave a warning about my spoiler...it was great & tough seeing Randy Pausch("The Last Lecture" guy) fulfilling the 2nd of his childhood dreams & who the hell knew that Medea was the head of the Federation? Too many great moments, go see it

No point in spoiler warnings on fark. I learned a while ago that if you go into a thread on a movie or show you haven't seen yet then you're doing so at your own risk.

I forgot to look for Pausch and missed the tribble with Scotty. I'm catching it again this weekend with the family.

Agree that it's a great movie.

tagjim: Trekkies Bash New Star Trek Film As 'Fun, Watchable' (new window)

My husband's in the video! If you look over the 1st interviewee's right shoulder, there's a grey-haired guy in an Next Gen 1st Season uniform. Also, the bowling shirt that the 2nd interviewee is wearing is my husband's--it's a Quark's Bar Bowling Team shirt I bought for him 3 years ago.
