Brianna Curry, 6, of Jupiter is battling a brain tumor and became of fan of Nugent by watching his reality show "Spirit of the Wild" on the Outdoor Channel. Make-A-Wish Foundation officials say Brianna even enjoys the rocker's music.

Well I suppose that is plausible. I agree that at first glance I you would guess the parents are behind it. Like how in the hell does a 6 year old girl ever get to listen to much less appreciate something like Nugent given the constant barrage of crap music geared for kiddos like Jonas brothers etc.

2009-05-05 10:37:51 AM
What do you want to bet her parents are Republicans? Either this was their wish, or they have raised her with incessant right-wing brainwashing to believe this gun waving reactionary freak is some kind of hero.

Subby is off base with Florida tag....there's probably little doubt that this poor girl watches Nug's show with her parents & to some degree it reflects her tastes as well...but come on, even if that's true give some credit to Ted for being a good guy here & helping out where he can.

Sometimes we as a culture are too overly cynical for our own good....the bottom line is that a little girl through no fault of her own is battling for her life, & will more than likely not make it, & above all else that's the story. The fact that Ted opens up his ranch to her is secondary to everything else. These are things that adults are hardly capable of contemplating...much less a 6 yr. old girl.

She might like him, you never know. When I was in the Marines, my unit helped out with a make-a-wish kid (7-8 years old I think) that wanted to be a Marine, but with the big farking tumor in his head he wasn't making it to 10, let alone 18, so we trooped him around in his own set of cammies, gave him some dress blues (specially tailored, took him to the range, let him ride around in a humvee, he got flown around in a CH-46, all kinds of stuff. Our Battalion Commander gave him a warrant making him an honorary Lance Corporal. He kept up with some of us for a year before he died, and he was buried in his dress blues and has LCpl (Hon.) USMC on his tombstone.

So honestly, who the hell knows what a little kid likes or dislikes. I wouldn't ahve thought that a kid his age would be so gung-ho, but he was. She may really like Nugent. I'll give the kid with cancer the benifit of the doubt.

Today's Top Story, Make-Wish-Foundation officials have suspended wishes for kids wanting to spend time with rocker Ted Nugent after a horrible accident involving a 6 year old at his ranch in Texas. While on a wild boar hunt the child froze with fear when the 300lb boar charged the child while hunting with a compound bow. Eye witnesses to the account could hear Nugent screaming "pull the gawd damn bow string and shoot the farker!"

A ranch dedicated to trophy hunting?
No, that's not cool. That's not even remotely cool.

Acutally it is. He's a conservationist, any animal taken from the ranch must be replaced by two more. He also keeps his ranch as close to natural state as possible. I don't agree with all his political stances, but he is at least a damn good tree hugger.

Well I suppose that is plausible. I agree that at first glance I you would guess the parents are behind it. Like how in the hell does a 6 year old girl ever get to listen to much less appreciate something like Nugent given the constant barrage of crap music geared for kiddos like Jonas brothers etc.

By 4th grade I had some amazing music teachers that got me hooked on Classical Music and Opera and also I first listened to Megadeth at that time. You never know where a kid's musical tastes will be if they have the right influences and are not sat in front of the Disney channel and Nick 24/7 then your kid will grow up with great music tastes.

Kid's age is not a factor in musical tastes or viewing choices. Just because it's on Nick or Disney, doesn't mean a kid is going crazy over it. We finally broke down and took our kid to see Lynyrd Skynyrd when he was 8, because 2 years of begging and pleading wore us down. He's now onto ACDC, and loathes the whole Jonas Bros./Hannah/Raven/Drake & Josh music machine. I prefer jazz, and Dad likes country. We have no idea where his musical tastes came from, we just try to go with it.

Except, if the possibility of exploiting their daughter's wish is true, the parents are miserable wretches. Is there evidence to support this claim? Not particularly, though I am caught quite off guard at hearing a six year old, even having lived in Florida most of my life, is a fan of Ted Nugent. I don't think they are, and I hope this is more than the little girl could have wanted and that this might diminish the suffering of the parents if even by the minutest amount, but I certainly don't think this is "uncalled for, even on FARK."

I mistakenly misplaced "your" with you're. When you are writing 100+ wpm it happens. You never made one error in your life on the internet? Furthermore, you still understood the full intent and purpose of my post.

OK, I see that now...not sure why that happened. Fair enough, point taken.

My only point here is good grief, why is everyone so cynical? Yes he does. No other reason for all the hate, right? Forget all the good that he does:

"Since the early 1990s Nugent has become both popular and criticized for his conservative beliefs and his anti-drug and anti-alcohol stances. He is a national spokesman for the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program, advocating the "natural highs" to be found in an outdoor lifestyle.

He has hosted the Ted Nugent Kamp for Kids, which combines a curriculum of hands-on hunting, conservation, archery and a strong anti-drug message aimed mainly at underprivileged inner-city children. Nugent also is a spokesman for the National Field Archery Association, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.

An advocate of hunting and gun-ownership rights, Nugent currently serves on the Board of Directors of the National Rifle Association (NRA)."

There is one thing I find offensive in this thread: the claim that Jonathan can be reduced to Jonny. It can not.

Children named Jonathan can be called "Jan", "Johnny", or "Steve". None of those are derived from Jonathan, but you can of course call a child by names other than his real name. You can even misspell "Johnny" or "Mr" and come up with "Mztr Jonny". Jonny and Mztr are misspellings even if they appear on the birth certificate.

/pities those poor kids whose names are misspelled on their birth certificates. They deserve their own Make-a-Wish Foundation, one that can only grant the wish "please fix my birth certificate"

At first I was just annoyed by your post because:
a)Nuggent is not good music by any stretch of the imagination. The kid was a fan of the show anyway not his craptastic music.
b)"His choice, not mine", implies that you had absolute no effect on the kid. A six year old's world is almost entirely its parents influence.

And then I read your profile. yeech. There is nothing I hate more than veiled racism. "I'm not racist but..." If you don't get why racism is still a problem then you don't understand power structures. Slavery does not equal racism. Just because slavery is over doesn't mean racism is.

I have no hate for Nugent though some of the things he is involved in such as the DARE program get me all riled up... I do believe in gun rights & that we should always have the right to bare arms....

I never see that DARE program working in my area... It just teaches the kids where you can find the drugs... Believe it or not when I was in 9th grade they started that DARE program in the Junior High/Middle School in my school district & ever since then they have had more drug problems than they had back in the 70's & 80's.... Its not because of parents never being around or drugs being more available... Its because they tell the kids "don't do it" & then tell them the side affects.... If you tell a kid not to do something you bet your ass they will go ahead & do it to spite you...

/sorry for getting off the topic but that DARE program really grinds my gears.... I've seen nothing but problems ever since they put that program into my school...

Interesting....then by your own definition, you too are irrelevant. And still you post? Oh & you have no idea what I have or haven't accomplished in my academic life nor in any other facet of my life.

And don't mistake my sympathy for a dying child for getting all Meryl Streep...I just think the discourse on this topic was asinine & wanted to point out that the focus should be on some glimmer of happiness in a little girl's life. Folks are too bent on hating a fellow just because he has different opinions than they do.

Have you thought about thinking before you type? It would help in the long run....then again...

Sure, I'm irrelevant. What of it? Well, I suppose I'm relevant to you. Dumbass.

Since you care about the childrens so much
this is a good place to donate.

Excellent argument style. You really won me over with your use of profanity & name calling when you realized that your own definition included you. Don't blame me...they're your words. I was just applying them equally & without prejudice...unfortunately you were caught up in your own definition.

I have my own charities that I donate to, thanks anyway. Again with the thinking & typing...I don't think your getting the concept.

m1gunr: Today's Top Story, Make-Wish-Foundation officials have suspended wishes for kids wanting to spend time with rocker Ted Nugent after a horrible accident involving a 6 year old at his ranch in Texas. While on a wild boar hunt the child froze with fear when the 300lb boar charged the child while hunting with a compound bow. Eye witnesses to the account could hear Nugent screaming "pull the gawd damn bow string and shoot the farker!"

Wow. I guess Ted really does have one bad-ass ranch if the boars are hunting with compound bows.

Marla Singer's Laundry: Nuge, Kroeger and Wentz are on a boat that starts to sink.

"Women and children first!!!" yells Wentz.

"FU*K the women and children!!" hollers Kroeger.

"...Do we have time?" asks Nugent.

I laugh harder each time you post. Keep up the good work, baby!!!

General Vayo: Idiots, if you RTFA you'd see that she wasn't a fan of his music, but is a fan of a TV show he does on cable where it's about being in the wild with animals.

Congratulations, you've turned a story about a terminally-ill child into a conservative-bashing thread. You people suck.

Actually TFA did say she was into his music. I agree with the rest of your comments though.

You don't seriously think that Make a Wish doesn't vet all the cases they come across?

2009-05-05 01:57:55 PM
Make-A-Wish does good work. And it sets up hunting trips for kids to shoot bald eagles. They don't worry about the morality or political correctness of the wishes and they aren't able to always grant the wish. But they try.

I don't contribute to them because of the hunting trips. The kid is dying and wants to take an innocent creature out with him. I don't support that.

I'll give the kid with cancer the benifit of the doubt.

teto85: Make-A-Wish does good work. And it sets up hunting trips for kids to shoot bald eagles.

No it doesn't. Shooting bald eagles, or molesting them in any, is illegal.

The law is so strict that if you aren't a Native American, you can't even possess an eagle feather, even if it was shed naturally and you found it on the ground.

If you don't like hunting, fine. Don't lie about it, though.

berylman: Like how in the hell does a 6 year old girl ever get to listen to much less appreciate something like Nugent given the constant barrage of crap music geared for kiddos like Jonas brothers etc.

I'll tell you how. It could be that her folks aren't allowing media to raise her. My daughter is 10 and hates pop music. Her iPod is full of Flogging Molly, Pearl Jam, Ben Harper and Slightly Stoopid. Jonas Brothers? Not. Miley? Not.

Die Kunst Der Fuge: bodhi1971: Amen. Exactly...this is about a sick little girl....not Nugent. You close-minded idiots are focusing on the wrong thing. I thought libs were supposed to be open-minded & for choice? Well, if this makes her brief stay on this side of eternity just a little happier...so be it. Set your Nugent hatred aside for just a little while.....

I haven't seen any "libs" talking up politics... I have, however, seen people whining about "libs." Most people are stupid when they're kids... but I wasn't any where near Nuge level stupid when I was 6 nor did I know any other kids near Nuge level stupid. It's not the politics moron, it's the idiot Nuge... you know, cause he's easy to mock. Like a fat kid.

But, the reason you think he's an idiot is because of his politics, which you don't agree with. Therefore, you missed the point.

Highlights include:"He wanted to run for governor of Michigan but painfully resigned." So much pain...

I find it funny that so many posters on here call Ted Nugent a failure, yet he is rich, can do what he wants when he wants, gives back to the community and has probably had more women than most of us could dream of in our lifetimes.

If that is the path to failure then sign me up. Pretty funny how accepting Americans on the Democrat side are of other people until they don't agree with them isn't it? I would place those that are slamming Nugent and the girls parents in this thread about on level as Perez Hilton. And that is really low!

For the record you don't have to be dying to get a wish. Some wishes are granted to "recovered" or "cured" kids who suffered an illness or disease. My daughter got a wish nearly three years after her illness.

aw, shiat, that's really sweet, and so sad. I'm glad you guys showed him such a good time. Thank you.

We had a Make-A-Wish girl following our Queen around at the Renaissance Faire. She had a pretty simple wish-- just wanted to dress up and play princess. Our Queen said it was one of the hardest things she ever had to do-- knight the little girl at the final ceremony and not start crying.

Hey, if the kid likes Nugent, I hope she has a really good time with him. Whatever she wants, who cares. FWIW, I don't think the make-a-wish people would grant a wish if it seemed like it was solely in the parents' interest.

6 years old? Come on. What kind of parents make their kid watch that. No she doesn't like cartoons. She likes an aging crap-basket with mediocre talent and a penchant for conservatism.

MAKE their kids watch it?
Let me guess, you are pro gun control and live in a major metropolitan area, am I right?
The Nuge is a Nut. He does interesting things. he is personable. I personally think he's juvenile and has a lot of issues, but I can see a kid who was allowed to watch his show on TV (which, obviously, your little brainwashed leftist cupcakes wouldn't be allowed to) think it would be cool to hang out with him.

I met Ted while I was working for the US as a contractor overseas. I missed the show but got to meet him afterward. The guy was personable, funny and respectful to every single person he met regardless of their beliefs or opinion.
I am a vegetarian and he got a kick out of the fact I actually like his older shows... he raises what he kills, eats what he kills, and respects what he kills. If I had a kid I would love for them to look up to that aspect of him.

... and I still have the sticker he signed that says "Vegetarian: native word for bad hunter - Ted Nugent"
