that's a pretty cool theory.

2009-05-01 11:23:22 PM
Cool indeed. It makes complete sense.

2009-05-01 11:24:56 PM
Dammit, now I need to re-watch Ferris Bueller with this new perspective.

After all these of WGN, you don't have the entire film memorized?

That fails to explain the separate houses for Bueller and Cameron.

That, and I'm sure the girlfriend addressed each guy by his name at least at some point in the film ...

This sentence no verb.

But yeah, I DO have it memorized, but a re-viewing with this new perspective will be VERY interesting...

kmmontandon: That fails to explain the separate houses for Bueller and Cameron.

And Ferris's parents. And Jeannie. And Rooney.

I like a good thought experiment as much as the next nerd. This isn't even close to being a good one.

This is worth a quick thought and a 'oh that's pretty cool', but it breaks down very very quickly if you actually watch the movie. Fight club, its 100% possible, Day Off, its 0% possible, unfortunately

2009-05-02 12:17:53 AM
Well, if he's actually in bed imagining the whole thing as the article suggests, it makes sense that he imagines people reacting to Ferris as a separate person.

Not sure why he'd be imagining Ferris singing in the shower....

Still not as good as the 'Tyler Durden is Hobbes' theory, tho.

I think it's pretty obvious that Ferris represented Cameron's alter-ego, but to declare that they were the same person kind of takes away from the themes of Cameron's declaration of independence and his rite of passage.

All figments of his imagination. Cameron never even left his bed that day, until it was car-kicking time.

His name is Ferris Bueller.

E.T. was actually the story of a young boy contracting a highly contagious, hallucinogenic flu, and the government trying to quarantine it.

Belongs to the theories that make sense only when you are really really high.

I haven't heard such a compelling theory since Donald Sutherland explained that one atom in your fingernail might be a whole universe in Animal House.

Any movie with a pathetic guy and a non-pathetic guy is Fight Club. And everything that would contradict that was just imagined, so how could you disagree?

Also: Every movie was just a dream. How could you prove me wrong?!??

Also also: Every plot hole exists because a wizard did it.

Damnit I was just writing this post in my head until I scrolled down and read this. Basically, ^^THIS^^. Theories like this are great... but this is reaching.

No wonder Ferris missed so much school.

FTFY. Now it's BSG worthy.

Not a new theory, I'd heard this years ago.

Chick... chicka chicka.

Actually, it's:

All the events that happened between Jack and Ennis after leaving Brokeback Mountain were Ennis' elaborate fantasy. Brokeback Mountain was Ennis' only real homosexual experience. He holds onto that memory as his life turns more and more to shiat. As he fails in life, Jack succeeds. Until the day he accepts his life as it is and then Jack "dies."

2009-05-02 09:17:02 AM
Also, Sloane hasn't been farked like that since grade school.

IT ALL MAKES SENSE!

2009-05-02 09:20:32 AM
Rainman is actually about Tom Cruise and his autistic alter ego.

Star Wars is about Anakins fantasy about fulfilling his destiney to overthrow the empire.

All the posters on Fark are really me..I pay a lot in Total Fark Memberships.

No, that theory doesn't make any sense.

SAVE FERRIS!

2009-05-02 09:50:10 AM
Now I have to rethink "Blazing Saddles" from a "Fight Club" perspective...

/the sheriff is Mongo's alter ego?

2009-05-02 09:54:36 AM
I guess this makes sense.

"Goonies" was just a hallucination Mikey had when he suffered from oxygen deprivation while dying from an extreme asthma attack, that actually began when him and Brand were on the front porch of their house listening to Cyndi Lauper. Tragic movie, never understood why so many people liked it.

So why not Ferris Beuller?

2009-05-02 10:00:52 AM
In response to those saying "What about the Bueller family," What if that house and that family is what Cameron dreams of having. Heck, those could be his parents, just acting entirely different, being nice and not overbearing. You never see 'his' family. Ferris fakes being sick, because he doesn't want to be. Cameron is sick and he doesn't want to be.

"He'll keep calling me....He'll keep calling me..."

It might be called Ferris Bueller's Day Off but it's Cameron's movie.

2009-05-02 10:22:14 AM
Yes, but the real question is...was Chong Cheech's alter ego?

/and how much weed does it take to get to this point??

2009-05-02 10:23:38 AM
I don't think so. Too many aspects of the film are against it (which people have mentioned before).

Contents of a Space Wasp's stomach: "Goonies" was just a hallucination Mikey had when he suffered from oxygen deprivation while dying from an extreme asthma attack, that actually began when him and Brand were on the front porch of their house listening to Cyndi Lauper. That's actually a really cool idea.

In any case, the only "Tyler Durden alter ego" theory that works almost perfectly is the "Calvin and Hobbes all grown up alter ego" theory (new window).
The first time I read that, it blew my mind.

Well, considering that after the credits, the whole movie is revealed to be a dream of "Ferris"'s, I actually find this whole theory somewhat plausible (albeit deeper than the movie actually seemed to be).

/No, that's not a spoiler; if you've never seen that part of the movie, you're either impatient or just a flat-out n00b.

Garfield doesn't really exist either.

Harry Tuttle is Sam Lowry's Tyler Durden.

Scorpio is dirty Harry's TD.

Superman is Clark Kent's TD.

Batman " Bruce Wayne "

The Greeks and Romans never really existed but were made up by monks in the Middle Ages. we are now living in the year 1376...

or something.

/Head Ferris and Head Sloan are obviously angels

"The Dude" smoked a "wet" joint and NOTHING in The Big Lebowski happened.

2009-05-02 11:10:29 AM
That theory is the exact reverse of Fight Club.

In Fight Club, he goes out and does real stuff and attributes it to an alter ego. He does things and has no memory of them, because it's him as an alter ego doing them.

In this theory, he fantasizes doing stuff with his alter ego.

Makes no sense.

2009-05-02 11:11:41 AM
Meh, this was the 80's when Hollywood thought their audiences were stoopid and they made movies that insulted the intelligence of the average 6 year old and spoon fed plots to the crowds. If this theory was sound, they would have explained it ad nauseum be fore the flick was over.

Jaws was never a real shark.

In fact, everything leading up to the voyage of the Orca was all of Brody's nightmares. The actual Orca voyage was Brody alone on a boat trip to face his fears.

The "shark" represented the water and his fear of it. "Quint" and his hatred of sharks represented Brody's hatred of the water. "Hooper" and his fascination with sharks represents Brody's fascination with the sea.

When "Quint" is killed, Brody is able to kill the "shark" and then able to overcome his fear of the water and paddle back home with his new found fascination with the sea.

"I used to hate the water."
"I can't imagine why."

/can be done with any film
//no matter how insipid

2009-05-02 11:24:37 AM
Rocky never had any real opponents.
