Yeah, that comparison may be lost us on Yanks, but I've been to York Cathedral. Seven times bigger than that is BIG.

Those pictures are freakin' beautiful.

I've never been there. The real question is how many dollar bills would you need to stack to reach the ceiling?

2009-04-30 08:27:37 PM
Now many holes would it take to fill it?

FTA: "The cave was originally discovered in 1991 by a Vietnamese Jungle man called Ho Khanh. However Mr Spillane said no-one had entered if before because 'it emitted a frightful wind and noise which was due to a large underground river'."

Caves emit wind??

Also, two words: EAR PLUGS (nobody thought of that in 18 years?)

But how many does it take to get to the moon? Or encircle the globe?

I think Cathedral Caverns could give it a run for its money.

Oddly, the cave goes sideways.

I cannot help but wonder if this cave was known to exist in the 1950s through the 1970s...

False alarm, folks. It's just Octomom on vacation.

Ramen Pride!: Is it bigger than Mammoth Cave?

As your resident Kentuckian, I can say with pride that it doesn't come close distance wise. As far as bigness, yeah.

Bigger than submitter's mom's vagina?! Wow... that IS huge!

Now I can use a "your mom's vagina is as big as" joke in Britain.

No... you are an ass. That is a hole in the ground.

Sideways you say?

But how's the slope? Gentle?

2009-05-01 12:25:29 AM
It may be large, but it's awfully tight.

2009-05-01 12:40:31 AM
Dr. Nick Riviera, I've been to the York Cathedral. Comparing a man-made structure to a naturally occurring cavern isn't realistic. Sort of like comparing the Empire State Building to the Grand Canyon.

It just doesn't correlate.

2009-05-01 12:43:21 AM
Seal that biatch up. I don't want no hadals getting to the surface.

2009-05-01 12:48:13 AM
I don't think so.

The octomom is larger.

Can someone convert that to Rhode Islands for me?

chrisdmid: hankhorsey: Hey, everybody, it's seven times as high as York Cathedral!

Can someone convert that to Rhode Islands for me?

There are around 2484 York Cathedrals in a Rhode Island (measuring form north to south). So the cave is about 0.002 Rhode Islands tall.

uvindex: Also, two words: EAR PLUGS (nobody thought of that in 18 years?)

It's not the noise; it's the spookiness. Since this thing was deep in the jungle, I would imagine that the people had a lot of animism mixed with their Buddhism or whatever. And animists tend to be fairly frightened of things like big creepy caves. I've been places that I can be almost certain that no one else has ever been because the only people in the area were animists who were afraid of them.

Wait, sorry, that was dumb. It's actually around 0.0028 Rhode Islands. I read five York Cathedrals instead of seven.

Oh and for those worried about Mammoth cave, it's the world's longest cave, this cave just has the world's largest cave passage. So don't worry, Mammoth cave's position is safe.
